Console to PC Transfers: News Blackout

Well no, they can never do a mass transfer, some people simply can't play on PC because they don't have one, any transfer will have to be individually implemented on player request, and I suspect this is part of the problem, how many thousand accounts will apply for transfer on that first day, what about the people at the end of the queue, how long will they need to wait? A more sensible option would be to implement cross play if possible and then let the console players do it themselves by simply stop playing on Consoles.

I am all for full and free transfer from Console to PC, but if you get a large part of the console player base immediately applying that's going to be a problem, and we don't know if cross play will be possible at all.

It might be somewhat difficult but it can be done. The MMORPG Black Desert Online is doing something similar at the moment.

I have grown tired of waiting for information about my transfer request. We have some vague holding statements that all transfers are on hold, even the stanard credit transfers, while they investigate options for full account transfers. I think its pretty bad form that we are being mushroomed on this. I would be happy to have the credit transfer and retire the PS4 account. Lack of choice and lack of information about when this might be resolved is unfair to players. Why not at least set a deadline that they are aiming for?

You're effectively duplicating an 'existing thread'. Congratulations on being allowed to, really.

Thing is, if FD says something in the vicinity of "we are looking in to the option of a full account migration and its doable if <insert reasons why/not>

what people here on the forums see is "full migration doable and it's coming next week"

Nope, I was responding to this line;
Well, that's never going to be a good idea if a full account transfer is later found to be possible and that messing about with fleet carriers is a waste of time and I think the OP knows that. We also don't know if it has to be a clean account or any other requirements, so that could even make things worse. Mainly though, I completely understand why someone would not want to spend their gaming time doing something FDev will eventually be able to do for them instead of playing the game.

Regardless, I would be doing nothing until FDev confirm what the process is, just in case.

There are likely in talk with Sony and Microsoft. That kind of talk are private. They are possibly also working on "behind the scene" nerdy stuff about databases. There are no news to be done.
"we are talking to the console company, while we work on database" every week get stale after a while.

You have just assumed that, you don't know niether does anyone else. Do you know why we don't know and can only make assumptions? Because we have only been given extremely vague information. I'm just suggesting that it would be reasonable for Fdev to give us a more clear and unabiguous statement. If they are in talks with Sony they should say so. If they are working on the database they should ssay so. They have indicated that transfers are on hold but they haven't given us any indication what that means in terms of timescale. Why not say that they are aiming to resolve the question within X time? If X time comes and they haven't resolved it they could tell us what the problem is and open a discussion about what, we the players, want done, either extend or call it quits.

If you don't think this thread has any relevance why are you wasting your time and energy here?

I'm doing it perfectly knowing it is irrelevant. 🤷‍♂️
Unlike others.

Edit: but i do have a mild interest in it since I have an XB account that i'd like to be maintained as it is - on console or by (full) transfer on PC

Because that's not the first time I've seen that kind of stuff happen, and I know what it entails.

Also, we had a bug once where someone transferred his account from console to pc (or the opposite). Which indicate it's clearly possible as is. The fact it's not already done indicate that there is something else being involved, and the only possible explanation is the console manufacturers themselves. Since that kind of talk are always about money, one way or another, then they can't talk about it publicly.

See, logic and experience. Valuable stuff.

"See replay to Northpin. Not a twice daily statement or even a twice weekly statement. Just a single statement that sets reasonable expectations. Further information could and should be provided as and when the original staement no longer holds true."

You had that from David Braben's original statement.

Frontier will not commit to anything until it's almost or more likely completely sorted.............given potential false hopes will only aggravate further it's irate console players.....be patient & wait!

Well I think its a reasonable question and it appears that other Cmdr feel the same even if they don't agree with my point of view. I find it hard to understand why you would comment on something that you don't feel has any relevance to anything. Knowing (or believing) it to be irrelevant makes it less rational.

Really? You think they should just tell the world they are in talks with Sony about accounts and transfers, something that could possibly affect their share value? If it's anything legal, no-one is going to say anything until a decision is made. This isn't monopoly money you know!

There could be another simpler explanation.
a) That occurrence was indeed the result of a bug
b) they need to setup a process that is more or less automated and that can be initiated by support simply by flicking a checkbox and that is infallible (read it bug free)

I would expect (they too) that transfers would be by the tens of thousands.

There was also an official statement about putting transfer on hold while they try to get full transfer. Because people transferring now with only wealth transfer would be mad if full transfer is added a few days-week later.

I honestly don't see why they can't say 'We are in talks with Sony and MIcrosoft due to legal limitations' Please explain to my smooth brain why this would by financially risky for frontier.
