Console Update

Then I wouldn't have been reckless enough as a company to indicate that I thought it was possible until I was fairly sure it was possible. And this isn't the first time Frontier have done this.

Frontier keep sacrificing elements for the good of the game, but there's not much left to go.
They‘ve made mistakes that’s for sure and their value as a business has plummeted as a result. They’re paying the price. So they’re now making decisions to get back on track. The announcement has been made and they’re now quite rightly taking the criticism. It will sting a lot but hopefully Elite still has a future.

No, I was just interest in a post that said consoles were not up to the job of running Odyssey and then suggested buying a console as the solution. It just struck me as odd :)
i've seen what Odyssey looks like on p.c., graphic wise, Battlefield 2042 ,which can support 64 players on the series x, is FAR more demanding on the processors, runs beautify. So don't say this genconsole can't handle it,The graphic improvements for Odyssey are not that good, pls .

Nope, that's just it. We can't believe in the honestly honesty of FDev either, not after the release of Odyssey and their supposed "working branch" that was coming after the alpha, even less after an entire year of saying they were working on the console release when they didn't even knew if they could release the game. For all we know they could be already on the process of unplugging everything while they promise future development on PC with their honestly honesty.
Well, thats not quiet true. Theyve said to delay console Development in order to fix the pc version first. And to be honest, it was quiet clear after several perfomance patches which doesnt have the expected outcome that it wont come to consoles.

That remains to be seen. I'm now only interested in what Frontier actually produce rather than what they say they are going to produce.

At least there's still someone with enough nous in marketing to work out you don't release update 11 and then bury it with bad news two days later. Then again maybe Frontier did find something awry that caused the delay. Who knows?

I’m suggesting that Frontier have not announced anything beyond update 11 and that Odyssey was supposed to be the first expansion where all the content was delivered up front.

There is a possibility that Frontier are working on the next expansion to be delivered in 2 to 3 years, but next to nothing in the short term.

Ah, well, that became pretty clear once they continued adding features post release ;)

And there is basically the problem, its not Fdevs fault that Consoles are a million miles behind even the most basic PC, they were never intended to be on the same level but developed as a plug and play game experience.

And yet, MSFS2020, an actual sim that's arguably much more complex than ageing Elite, runs on consoles no problem, while looking better as well.

Only a poor craftsman blames their tools.

why else would they have put it on gamepass in the firstplace?if it was "dead" on console?
Presumably Frontier agreed to have it on GP because at the time they signed the deal, they were still expecting to ship it on all platforms, and they reckoned that the additional exposure to the game via the sub would translate into more Odyssey sales. For Microsoft's part all they care about is having more games on it which can translate into a higher attach rate, so they already got what they wanted out of the deal. Frontier screwed up getting the main benefit they'd hoped for out of it when the expansion didn't work on consoles, since that's how they will have expected to see the most profits from it.

The problem is Odyssey is a million light years off from being optimised to run well on even top of the line PC hardware that few can afford. Right now, the current console generation are basically the only way for many to get their hands on hardware equivalent to a mid-range gaming PC at less than half the price of an equivalent PC graphics card. Even if focusing soley on PC, that needs to be your hardware target as a game developer if you ever intend to sell enough copies of your software to break even.

So does this mean we can expect a similar announcement for VR?

(oh and no, the current "sollution" isn't acceptable by any stretch of the imagination)

I have both platforms for MSF and they look pretty much the same, however you are limited on the console - no add-ons (unless you buy the limited ones from the store) no third party tools or community stuff, there's a big difference in gaming between them

You can continue playing Horizons content on console.
Is there any word on whether we'll be able to continue playing Horizons content on PC?

What I mean by this is that currently, when you have Odyssey installed but choose to play Horizons from the launcher, it's running an entirely separate (non-Odyssey) installation of the game (the old codebase if you will and presumably basically the same codebase that Frontier will be continuing to maintain, tho not develop, for console). In the future, if we launch Horizons on PC will it continue to run this old software or will it essentially run Odyssey but with the Odyssey exclusive content turned off?

Specifically (and more importantly for me and a certain portion of the community), when I run Horizons on PC in the future, will I see the new planet tech or the old planet tech?
