Console Update

Isn’t that the VERY point of this quote? “At first it was just this small group of people I didn’t know or belong to and so it didn’t affect me.”
Games are not some sort of community service, they cost money to make and if few people support that version of the game its going to be stopped sooner rather than later. My question is, were there enough console players to warrant the expense of trying to optimize the game, given that I presume the majority of players are on PC, and that FD cannot expend infinite resources (considering they have other games to make too).

First they came for the Mac CMDRs, and I said nothing...
While I understand the frustration of console players at the news, using holocaust-related references is an absolute disgrace and embarrassment.

My father fought in that war and saw firsthand what happened, comparing the rise of Nazism to your plight at not getting a computer game expansion speaks volumes.

To be fair I imagine you could count the Mac Commanders on one hand. But it does beg the question on how many console commanders there are / were- because somewhere someone has done a cost / benefit analysis and found consoles wanting.
Well I've been playing Cyberpunk since that updated so I've been doing my bit to keep the console numbers down.

Honestly though, at the point at which it would be released it'll be competing against native PS5/series X titles. It never had a chance after all the issues really.

It might have started there sure, but once it was available on consoles, it no longer was...

Like I said in a previous comment, they should be releasing the game on PS5 and Series X, then returning to the PS4/Xbox 1 versions, not "nuking them from orbit"! 😐
they don't owe you anything over and above what you paid for. did you pre-order odyssey on consoles? no? there you go.
They don't owe you anything. if you don't like elite and fdev that much, don't play it.

Speechless......

At least will you give the opportunity to console players to transfer EVERYTHING and on an "AS IS" basis to pc? We've spent money and time on this.

really curious now if u'll give the same opportunity for a better future to console players or not.

This is not surprising. My PC can run Horizon Zero Dawn at 60fps but odyssey settlements barely go over 20, it's kind of obvious that previous gen consoles can't run odyssey. And I have my doubts with current gen too.

You can't 'trust' a dev because so many things can change. I was a KS backer drawn to ED because of proc gen damage models, in depth BGS promises as well as much more detailed ship exteriors (re modules that could be identified on sight). Plans change, stuff goes wrong. It does not knock my trust because I never had much to begin with- not to mention people going crazy thinking a game is some form of mortgage that their life depends on.
Again this all stems from a comment where someone saying “I can’t trust the dev”, which you seem to agree with, gets called dramatic. What are you trying to convince me of here? Again I think we understand each other.

Disappointing, but expected.

Players who have purchased Elite Dangerous on Xbox or Playstation should be given the offer to migrate their accounts from their respective platform to pc without loosing anything free of charge.

Greetings Commanders,

Elite Dangerous is a game close to my heart.

It’s no secret that Odyssey’s launch was less than ideal, including the need to split the PC/console player base to focus on a PC-only launch. Since Odyssey’s release in May 2021, we have worked tirelessly to improve the Odyssey experience on PC, and whilst we have made great progress there is still more to be done. We have been supporting the pre-Odyssey and post-Odyssey codebases since.

Over the last several months, we have been wrestling with the best way to move forward, and it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel all console development. We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game, and in order for us to do this we need to focus on a single codebase. Elite Dangerous will continue on console as it is now together with critical updates, but we will focus on new content updates on PC on the post-Odyssey codebase.

We appreciate this news is not what our console community were hoping for. This was not an easy decision to make, but it was made with the long-term future of Elite Dangerous in mind.
Certainly saw this coming, still disappointing. I promised myself to not play Elite Dangerous until Odyssey dropped on console, a promise I'm going to keep to which at this point means never again sadly. I just got a Series X as well and refuse to buy a PC just Elite Dangerous. This news while understandable doesn't dull the fact of how long its been, the lack communication on this subject still it's was fun while it lasted. Cmdr N7WARL0RD signing off [Uninstalled].

So, with no future on the horizon, my 1000+ hour journey ends today 😭😭

The point that makes me angry is that frontier makes a fait accompli. No call for help to the community in form of a kickstarter project or similar.

farewell commanders

I'm not impressed either with promising and then not delivering a console version, but requesting monetary compensation for a product you haven't even bought yet might be a bit over the top.
Yep. Although I think a free copy of the base game (along with full asset/progress transfer, including Arx-purchases) wouldn't hurt. If a console player ends up getting a PC to play on, they should regain the footing they had to begin with.

Much as I hate showing my age here, Elite was never originally a PC game (see one of the previous comments which I should have quoted - my bad) - it originally came out on the BBC Micro (I had one), and that could never be classified as a PC.
Actually the BBC was a PC, as was the Electron, the Spectrum and Commodore 64. They were all Personal Computers (even Macs).

they don't owe you anything over and above what you paid for. did you pre-order odyssey on consoles? no? there you go.
They don't owe you anything. if you don't like elite and fdev that much, don't play it.
They're abandoning a lot of us and millions in sales by doing this...

As I alluded to, MAYBE it's time to dial back development on the PS4 and Xbox 1 versions either until the expansion can run on them, or MAYBE altogether, but even if they HAVE to, they could at least soften the blow by releasing the game on "next gen" systems which can surely run Oddessey, but they don't seem to be interested in that for some reason 🤔😯😐 .

My 'beef' so to speak is that people make the mistake of investing too much time into the company behind the game and start over dramatizing negative outcomes for what is, just a game. Like I said in my last reply to someone else, the word 'trust' is not a good word to use, because so much can change during a games development.
