Console Update

And some people actually argue against the criticism instead of attempting a failed ad hominem... and they'd be on their own as I'll have no part in it...

That video is from Frontier Development... on their own Elite: Dangerous channel... not mine. And it's their CEO, David Braben, discussing all the content that WILL be in the game.

Nice try though, champ.
Can you link to a source for the "10 seasons" you quoted? I think you are getting mixed up with 10 year plan for the game.
The same for the "all platforms will be on parity" quote. I don't you've got that right either. What David Braben said is that all platforms will play in the same Galaxy.

I promise you FDev tried their best to get this done but just think about all the keybinds and trying to pack them all on a Xbox or PS controller. Can't be done.
You can get a keyboard for the Xbox but don't see why you cant bind to the controller, MS flight simulator uses 2 buttons at once for some controls, lots of combinations to play around with

Too bad the PC players don't care enough to petition for us. It'd be nice to see the PC community back up the console players for once in their lives. Maybe stage a protest. No one on the servers until a promise to help console players is made? Doubt it will ever happen.

But it's hard to say that this isn't just utter, top rubbish.
If this is a financial/strategic decision on FDevs part, then honestly the best bet is to petition MS and/or Sony to make it happen, they have the resources to help bring games to their platforms and also provide the necessary marketing to ensure it gains full exposure to the most potential customers. People talk about Hello Games, and I get it, but I wonder if, without Sony's backing, NMS would have made it through launch.

I understand that porting individual console accounts might be too labor intensive for Fdev. Nevertheless, it would be a meaningful gesture if Frontier gifted all current console players a PC account. And not just any PC account, but one with enough credits to purchase and maintain a Fleet Carrier for x amount of time, enough credits to buy many many ships, liberal arx, and a completely filled hold of ALL engineering materials. I understand that ranks might be lost as well as all exploring finds, but any tools to make it easier to regain would be at the very least, something.

[EDIT] also all engineers and most permit unlocks.... any other suggestions?
Just a straightforward full account migration of your current CMDR I think is sufficient, though a reasonable discount on Odyssey would be good too.

What a bunch of sycophantic fan boys.. "thank you Mr Braben " ... totally let down by a greedy CEO and company that have ruined many a console users money.. I say SHAME on you Fdev, Shame on Mr Braben ... utter rubbish
If I had my wish, we'd all be playing Elite Dangerous on a still developed and strong Amiga computer line. But any fanboy angst has given way to accepting that things just don't work out and it's mostly out of our control, so it's as pointless anyway. And I try to remain polite.

Also.. My advice to UK console owners is to take Fdev to small claims court for 1. Money spent on ED and 2. Amount of hours wasted playing it ...
Yeah, that's not going any where.

Greetings Commanders,

Elite Dangerous is a game close to my heart.

It’s no secret that Odyssey’s launch was less than ideal, including the need to split the PC/console player base to focus on a PC-only launch. Since Odyssey’s release in May 2021, we have worked tirelessly to improve the Odyssey experience on PC, and whilst we have made great progress there is still more to be done. We have been supporting the pre-Odyssey and post-Odyssey codebases since.

Over the last several months, we have been wrestling with the best way to move forward, and it is with a heavy heart we have decided to cancel all console development. We need to be able to move forward with the story of the game, and in order for us to do this we need to focus on a single codebase. Elite Dangerous will continue on console as it is now together with critical updates, but we will focus on new content updates on PC on the post-Odyssey codebase.

We appreciate this news is not what our console community were hoping for. This was not an easy decision to make, but it was made with the long-term future of Elite Dangerous in mind.
How pathetic..... thanks for nothing.

Just trying to be helpful.
It's been pretty well established at this point that the game is still unoptimised - I can play it 'fine' (anything between 35-144fps depending on the situation) but it's not where it should be after almost a year.

With consoles out of the picture I reckon this is probably as good as it will get in terms of performance though, so I'm making peace with it. Upgrading my PC for this game is just not going to happen though.

I'm not even thinking of rebooting my PC Cmdr to buy Odyssey. I wouldn't waste any more of my money Frontier......

We're quite close to agreement. I think there's more to come in terms of optimization but if it's of a more fundamental nature, not having the pressure for a console release would give them the time to work it out. We will see. As for PC upgrades, tis the nature of the beast.
