Console Update

I thought you bought Odyssey on PC also? Or was that just to test the water so to speak?

Edit - just saw your subsequent post, sorry.
Yeah, and just to clarify for anyone wondering, PlayStation is my primary platform, PC is my secondary/ALT platform. My lounge is very comfortable and TV setup nice.

My office is comfortable, but not for extended hours of gaming.

I bought Odyssey for my itching to see how it actually is and get some heads-up ahead of getting it again on PlayStation.

Currently, I’ve deleted the game off my PlayStation, CMDR earthtone99 is pretty much done aside from maybe a farewell flight/final PvP fight.

I’m feeling so bitter about the announcement, I don’t want to touch Odyssey on my PC at the moment and probably won’t for a while, the daunting 2nd grind does not entice me to get on an waste away hours upon hours of my time like I have on PS.

Yeah I can understand that, even though I'm not on console myself.

I had an alt account on Steam, but my main is directly via FDev Store and 99% of my cosmetics are tied to that so I bought Odyssey for that account only (unlike the main game I still don't think EDO is worth buying twice, and in hindsight I shouldn't have gotten the alt in the first place, only encouraged FDev's reluctance to offer different save slots).

I wiped my main account out of sheer frustration last summer, and in part to see what the early game is like on-foot. All in all I regret doing that, and while I could handle the engineer grind (I've taken a less compulsive/completionist approach this time) it's first and foremost because losing my FC - and that's by far the biggest drag to get back, to the extent that I'm not even sure if I will (re-)achieve it in the end, because I'd have to do some serious grinding to get there fast, and to take it slow and easy I'm not sure I have the stamina for that anymore.

I'll try out the FC interiors on someone else's carrier, but I just feel I've sucked out all the fun that could be had in the game at this point, so am thinking this could be the beginning of the end for me... and I guess 4k+ hours over 7 years isn't such a bad run all things considered.

Indeed, there’s been no other game I have ever played that I have invested as much time into. Most games cap out around 20-60 hours, open world games, perhaps 300-400 tops.

But this, hitting 1500+ odd hours, is exceptional for me, near on 5 years playing, relatively casual of course, due to my real life commitments etc, I’ve never invested that length of time into any other game.

I played the original game generation on the spectrum all those years ago (fair bit of time on that). I never expected then to see the game come back to all it was then plus more and to surpass that as well in a clearly passionate community. Also, the passion of the owner and thought leadership has to be given credit for making this possible. There is a thank you there. I am a console player lots of hours invested and hope that any practical possibility of transfer is explored (all 6 items in the linked thread). It would also be good to know what the console experience will be in clearer terms from frontier, knowing that they will want the echo from this situation to pass quickly. The moment to answer this is now or very soon.

I have picked out reference to the account transfer thread and also a couple of bits of this specific thread that at least for me resonate in part. Inevitably saying anything meaningful or of substance in the circumstances will inevitably have an edge.

I'm kinda embarrassed but my counter of playtime is on 25,616 hrs, according to codex 152 weeks 3D 8H.

Long time player here since 2016. And over 5k hours logged on codex too. Also played FFE back in the latter 90's. (just imagine that, a 15 year break of no new Elite since FFE, so if Braben is still around , can't count out the Elite franchise 'dead' over decades; so in my case for space genre games, it was a few of the "X" games by egosoft, and the original KOTOR in between , and a decade (periodically ongoing still) with FSX until the Elite revival with ED).

My take is that Frontier and FDev still have a bunch of work to do with the new engine 'upgrades' that came with Odyssey. And it's unfortunate further console dev is halted, but I still believe Braben's words in his message that the continuing long term vision continues with ED even on just pc for now. Maybe JWE and the F! franchises will take a bit more of the Frontier stage with the interest by some of the major shareholders, but I still believe the Elite franchise won't be going away as long as Braben is still involved with Frontier..

Odyssey has laid a lot of the groundwork and infrastructure for a lot more potential of this 'new era' of ED. It's rough yes, but so was FSX in its first years since it's release in the mid-latter 00's where it was taxing on most pc systems struggling to improve framerates. Back then FSX was a major unprecedented revamp and upgrade to the long running msfs franchise with the use of modernized 3d graphics, gpus, and effects then, so it stumbled for a few years, but then became a leader again of the flight sim genre in the 10's. And I do hope the same will happen with ED and Odyssey in the following years, as Odyssey was a major pioneering effort in an unprecedented achievement of combining on-foot with the already existence of multiple gameplay style modes as well as the still unprecedented stellar forge interstellar and galactic spacesim modeling set to realtime simulation, furthering it's highly ambitious overall spacesim realizations.

I'd agree with you if the game hadn't languished for fixes and gameplay, or then rush release with an incomplete/shoddy DLC that has taken another 10 updates whilst console gamers were told to wait whilst they patched up the "sickly" pc game, then ignore console gamers with absolutely NO information about progress apart from stock glib answers of "no information yet - awaiting further information" and then swing the axe... with a no by no leave of effective communication.

If this is David's passion project, then I wouldn't like to see his "Meh so what" project.

A passionate person throws everything into making his project work, if not old gen then at least with a view to next gen (in relation to consoles). For the meantime that will be pc.
Lets be honest here, ED is not David's passion project any longer - FDev gets more money out of other game licenses. ED has the 'batty old aunt in the corner' nod of acceptance that they are still around but don't fully engage with; its all down to fiscal money and that ED failed to meet expectations revenue-wise for the shareholders, so its a cut back and trim down costs maneouver to appease the flailing share price.
Don't get me wrong, Frontier\Braben screwed up releasing Odyssey, and they have messed up in support of the game in general. They don't seem to dedicate enough resources to it. Braden regrets how this has played out; I honestly believe he regrets taking the company public.
I still don't see elite getting canceled unless their financial situation is untenable to support the game. imho
