Continual crashes - any response from FDEV?

I tried the Verify Files from launcher, didnt help for me I crashed as soon as I pressed Continue in the menu.

At least all these people not being able to log on has solved the carrier jump time issue.

I saw it mentioned somewhere else maybe in this thread, but disabling my second monitor stopped this happening for me.

'every player' - lol nope.

... not planning on updating any gfx drivers today - just in case though :sneaky:
Not sure what your running but i updated my drivers yesterday (Nvidia) and have no issues, but then again ive had no crashing issues for a long while.
What mode you crashers playing in? Im in solo and its as stable as its ever been, even FC Jump times are back to normal.

Same here. It used to work perfectly until Thargsday. Now I got a chain of crashes on my main account. The game itself still comes up and I can start a game, but shortly afterwards, just sitting inside the starport for some seconds, hello Desktop my old friend. Not using VR here btw. Sometimes, it crashes when clicking a button. Did also verify files and no findings.

Strangely, the Epic alt account works properly. Same machine, NVIDIA drivers are fairly new and the same as on Wednesday. As is the game, or has there been an update?

EDIT: Epic crashed too, but only after leaving the game. I suspect some network issues, or maybe a Windows update (10 here) with side effects, can't check at work. And all the crashes were in the main game, not the launcher which stubbornly prevailed as ever. One thing to note is that Epic reinstalled the DirectX runtime (to my surprise) before launching.

O7,

Last night I played a bit on my Epic account, and it crashed once.
Funnily enough, it crashed towards the end of my session, when I thought that it was time to shut down.
At that moment, I thought that perhaps it was a new feature, Thought Attack or something. 🤔
Haven't tried Steam.

Perhaps the tick just made the thargs win the war and this is how that looks like. Game over, man, game over. :ROFLMAO:

Jokes besides, I've had no problems running the game from Steam, even made two logins (offline during FC jump) yesterday around 1800-2000 game time.
Solo mode, BTW.

When starting the game display goes to black then disappears from the desktop. For me that has been a graphics settings problem before. Continuing the game is running with audio only then crashes. Not knowing what to look for in the log file doesn't help.

OK, saved my bindings and am now doing a a full reinstall directly from Frontier. At 41 percent and more to follow...

UPDATE 1: ISP provides 300Mbps download and Frontier sends at 9-11Mbps for 59min 45sec. Would have to do it again for Horizons Legacy. Starting again no change in the problems with the disappearing screen and then game crash. Oh well, good for others to know not to bother with reinstalling the game. Meanwhile another 39min 25sec to install Horizons Legacy and the Trainer.

UPDATE 2: Game display disappearing fixed. Looks like my problem versus others. Using the following Frontier instructions I changed the DisplaySettings.xml values for my specific MSI monitor from fullscreen borderless to 2560x1600 windowed. Now the game display is always there up to the point where the game crashes! OK Frontier Devs...your turn.

UPDATE 3: ED crashing after startup fixed for me anyway. Before the Thursday maintenance the Nvidia 536.67 drivers were working with ED. Afterwards ED crashes. Installing the latest 536.99 drivers no change. Installing 536.40 drivers and ED is operational again.

Frontier just completed performing an update to the servers. I started again with the latest Nvidia 536.99 drivers and it appears that...wait servers down again...up and down again a few times...OK I'm in with the latest Nvidia 536.99 drivers. Time will tell if it stays that way.

Hope this info helped someone out there! :)

(Windows 11 home, Intel i9-13900KF CPU, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, Nvidia 536.99 drivers, Direct X Runtime v12.0)

Regards

Have had no problems (yet) on GeforceNow/Steam/Ody, yesterday or today. I guess the VM image it uses includes a vanilla client, so it's always like a new install.

removal file fsave_opions from Frontier Developments directory located in Roaming directory seemed to have worked

nope ...

I tried this, even validated files, game still CTD after a few minutes.

EDIT: - we still need a few more votes to fill up the Issue Tracker "vote pyramid" (also I see there are now 104 reports on there)

Would be nice to have a little bit of feedback from FDEV about their investigation into this.

I wonder what they slipped-in to the server maint yesterday, something got changed.

Posting new to highlight this...

Investigating elsewhere and people say you should delete that fsave file before every start of the game. I'll give that a go now.

i.e the file fsave_optionsXXX in %APPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options

I just tri.....

But it could be something against the rules of the game. I'm not entirely sure, I don't want to do anything wrong.

OMG that would be sad, yet hilarious. Altering game files to stop the crashing so you can play, only to get banned for cheating lol

Also, I assume that file does something important, else it'd not exist. Is it one of these that the game will just regenerate if deleted? Going to see if my game crashes, not played in a few days as the servers have been dead flaky.

Edit: Thought I'd log in to test stability - can't actually play, no time - just leaving game running while docked at a station. No issue so far (10 minutes) but, despite being in Solo, I'm having constant network activity, more than would be usual unless other players were perhaps around. Seeing such network activity while sat in a station, in Solo, is odd, right?
