Controller Optimization Dualshock4

Hi everyone!

Although I like most of the preset settings I guess there will be a lot of individual customizations to help others finding their favorite adjustment. Please share your controller setting tips here!

My first recommendation is : Sensibility for motion controll on the lowest setting feels much better

Try 25% incremental throttle control on a controller, it always felt better to me and means four clicks up for full power and one click down to drop into the blue when full power in supercruise.

Try putting pitch and yaw on right stick and roll and vertical thrusters on the left. Use L1 and R1 for max throttle fwd and back(not boost). This will give you fantastic dogfight control; with the ability to aim finely, spiral strafe on your narrowest axis if head to head, and make large frequent speed overrides/adjustments and circle widening/tightening in a tail chase looping battle.

That's an interesting one, does it work well? (also how do you bind that, is it in the options?)

For me yeah Deffo :) in the throttle binding there is an option for either continuous or incremental, you set it to incremental then you set what percentage you want with 25% the max.
The main advantage is you don't have to look at the throttle power gauge when setting it once you get used to it and you can also come out of hyperspace at a quarter power for fuel scooping by tapping down three times during the spoken countdown :)

I'm thinking of going pitch / roll on left stick, vertical / yaw on right stick, I think there's a modifier (L3?) to switch to horizontal thrusters too?
That incremental throttle looks interesting, do you often need quick changes of throttle or do people find continuous works alright?

Certainly being able to quickly select 75% throttle is a very good idea. That's the optimum setting for the 7 second rule in supercruise.

From my limited experience on flight in regards to video games. Air craft in space handle the same as they do in an atmosphere. Therefore, I'll set my up exactly like my old Cessna 172, and my thrusters like my little 24 footer I call a yacht, parked in the marina.

Will have to play around and see what feels best then, I kinda like the idea of the finer control continuous will give.

Just wait until you turn Flight Assist off..... ;)
Turning FA off from the start! Got to get that "space-flight" feeling. :D

...you *might* want to toggle that the first time you try rather than switching over. Unless you're nowhere near anything large and immovable, like a space station's walls ;-)

I shall be the local entertainment, as ships cruising out of the station witness me spinning wildly off into space. :p

EDIT: On that note, I guess the controls can be sorted for the training? I can at least get some practice in then before unleashing havoc on Open.

Based on my pc hotas experience, when you face tougher opponents you need to be able to control the following all at once without moving hand position/configuration:

roll axis
pitch axis
lateral thrusters (up,down, left , right)
throttle
primary fire
secondary fire
boost
power distribution buttons
utility button (chaff, ecm etc)

Not sure if this is going to be possible on dualshock, but if it works out Ill post back tomorrow with button config.

You want both, if possible. Fine continuous control in combat with an optional 50% for setting the optimum turning thrust (aka "middle of the blue zone"). 75% for super cruise 0:07s approach to destination, the "no loop of shame" setting. And, last and certainly least, 25% for cargo scoop.

ED, at least on PC, supports using buttons as modifiers allowing you to hold a button and then assign a 2nd function to all the other buttons which might give you enough binds.. maybe..

Will have to see what modifiers are available (unless anyone has experience of gamepad controls on Xbox One?).
I don't think having simultaneous control over all functions is possible on a gamepad anyway - you'll have to let go of the right stick to access face buttons at the very least, which is why I chose pitch / roll on the left stick for "normal" ship control during those brief moments.

That's what I was thinking of doing, default being full range with 25% increments on a modifier.

Yikes, tried this in a Sidey on the PC as wanted to check out the Starter Systems as I heard rumours they were in lockdown (false) and its bad, real bad, not good for landing at all, no precision control.
