People will keep making the comparison and people will keep telling them not to :)

Comparers are going to compare.

people can say what they want, but reality is not an opinion.
the public that likes space games will look for the same alternatives that exist in the market.
Personally, I always choose to act on the evidence, whether I like it or not.

Wow and Teso, because they have different designs and styles, don't they compete? Aren't they magical medieval mmorpgs?
For a good understanding, few words.
I repeat: People must stop avoiding assuming reality and leave the excuse aside.
You started this with a comparison..now your saying don't.

Time for you to give up. You're just making excuses.
The games are nothing alike - and if you had bothered to search - you'd already find this suggestion has been made before.

If you don't want people to assume - stop making the assumption yourself in the first place.

🤦‍♂️

Well you cant really find a game like Elite, ie a true space exploration game, its become abundantly clear that Starfield is a million miles away from that.

EVE online... X series Games.....

Course I've yet to find anything on the scale of Elite Dangerous (Eve Online comes close)
Seriously doubt Star Field is that large.

1:1 Scale of the Galaxy is a bit much.

Star Field feels more like a Mass Effect in terms of what I've observed. Obviously Better...maybe? XD

The best scenario would be if Frontier expanded the scope of ship kits. ie; add more points to place them, also split left/right to allow for non-symmetric application of items and more varied mix and matching. Then, after doing that, adding more varied options for more combinations.

the things elite could benefit from borrowing from other games are fundamental features that would involve redoing the game engine.

besides things that would require that...
the only thing i can think of that fdev should take a page from are games where the community can run third party servers and mod the client. basically like the X games... have an official server for those still wanting the official narrative and rules, but let the community create content and run servers with altered rules to fit their vision of the game.

that would be something worth incorporating without needing to potentially refactor the game engine to support

You're missing the point. "Space" is not a genre, it's a theme. Elite is a pseudo-MMO flight simulator. Starfield is a single player Skyrim-style RPG.

An example of Genre vs Theme; my friend was obsessed with The Walking Dead, watched every episode, went to conventions, spent hundreds on collectables. Yet when the Telltale games came out, he hated them, due to the genre(point and click adventure with quicktime events), despite loving the theme. Instead his favorite games were the Left4Dead series and Dead Island, games of the FPS zombie shooter genre within the wider "Zombie" theme category.

I can not play Starfield with my dual stick, throttle, and pedals HOSAS sim pit. The space flight in SF is "arcade-y" at best. I don't know how to explain it any better.

Back to the thread topic, I don't think ship creation would work in Elite, I feel modular designed ships would clash with the aesthetic of the ships already in game, and many people would go out of their way to make the ugliest most ridiculous creations possible.

I repeat, all opinions are respectable, I don't care about personal beliefs, but the reality is different. I'll stick with the facts, the audience for space games is the same. end.

The audience for space games IS NEVER the same.
And Space is not a Genre - never was. Theme perhaps - but not accepted Genre.
You will find EVE Online pilots and Elite Dangerous are very different crowds - that alone is proof.

Obviously you are VERY new to this.

So in your reality all dissenting opinions are invalid with no consideration. Alright buddy.

As I said, I can't explain the difference in audience between space-flight sim pilots and quest based RPG players any better than I already have, so I tip my hat and say good day.

Why is everyone arguing about genres?

Because someone said ED is different from Starfield and it was replied that "both are games" 😂

On the same note, i'd really love to fly Krait Mk2 in Tetris - since they are both games, it should be possible, right?
i mean both ED and SpaceTetris are space games

He said both are SPACE Games.... distinct difference.

Which does very little to reinforce his original point that they are the same.

that's like saying an Apple is the same as a Lemon - yes both are fruits - but they are very different fruits.

Would be different if he was talking Granny Apple versus Washington - then he'd have a case.

Stanfield and Elite Dangerous - might as well be a Fruit and A Vegetable at that rate.

Sadly Elite Dangerous is a bit of a lemon ;)
