Coul FDev roll back the planetary update and shaders?

What else could I possibly add to this dumpster fire of a thread? Take a step back and read your own statements again, perhaps the irony won't be lost on you then.
Nothing wrong with my statements. You just don't have the empathy required to understand them.

As Odyssey was built on the 'new' planetary tech, it probably isn't as simple as 'rollback'... But I know nothing and maybe all it takes is 5 minutes and a single dev to do so. 🤷‍♂️

As it stands Odyssey is optional to play. By the time the tech is optimised sufficently to incorporate into Horizons (and by extrapolation, onto Consoles also) it should be performing on the hardware recommended by Frontier... Although that may mean 30 FPS in 720p for the lowest spec and 30 FPS in 1080p on recommended.

Well I like the new stuff. Looks much better overall in my opinion.

There are a few issues, like paint jobs, flickering shadows, and certain planets, that look bad, but in general it's a huge upgrade.

I've been doing a bit of exploration and it's been an excellent experience.

When I log back into Horizons I can't wait to get back to Odyssey. It just looks and feels so much better.

It was a typo that I'd fixed. People make mistakes. If they didn't we wouldn't be here talking about a broken game. Pointing out my mistake doesn't make you clever, it just makes you look silly and childish for quoting it now that it's been fixed.

Also, I understand your comment on irony. You think it's ironic that I'm asking for a change that you think would suit me but I'm also calling out others for rejecting that change because it wouldn't suit them. But you're mistaken in my motivations here.

I don't really play Elite Dangerous anymore. I've played Elite since the 80's and I joined these forums back in 2008 when it was just a bunch of friends talking about the future of "Elite IV". I got Elite Dangerous when it came to premium beta and I've played enough of it to realise that it's actually not a very good game. I still play Horizons now and then if I want to go shoot some unsuspecting NPC pirates, but generally I've moved on to other things.

I've been a games developer for a while and wondered whether, to ease the problems with the performance issues, rolling back the renderer would be an option. Not for myself, but for others who are having issues, as I really don't care whether the game is fixed or not. If I want to play Odyssey, I'll just buy a new PC that's got enough grunt that the performance issues aren't a problem to me. But at the moment I'm quite happy with my development rig which is primarily used for making 2d arcade indie games. Whether FDev fix Odyssey or not really is no skin of my nose at all.

But, as I've stated above, you can't see this because you don't understand what I'm saying.

Oh, I wasn't pointing out your spelling mistake we all make them. Someone seemingly as intelligent as you might be able to understand what I'm getting at after the clarification I just made :)

So you don't really play the game but you want the game downgraded for everyone.

You're the gift that keeps on giving.

What's so wrong in suggesting something that benefits others? It's quite cathartic, maybe you should try it some time.

Yes well, perhaps that's a determination to be made by those playing the game. It seems we have crossed the rubicon and there is a lot more people on the forums enjoying EDO than there was a few months ago.

Performance isn't there yet but with each update, it seems to improve so why risk all that by downgrading aspects of the game on the advice of a 2d animator who doesn't play the game and can't see the differences in two loading menues.

Toodles you've been entertaining but my bacon sanduit* won't eat itself.

*Not a spelling mistake just a funny joke between friends from another game.

So, why not, if possible, just roll back the renderer and planet tech to a version that actually worked and potentially solve the performance issues for many players?
FDev did that already. Their last-minute decision to keep client 3.8 around instead of merging Horizons into client 4.0 is a rollback in all but name. As long as there are enough people playing Horizons, the old renderer won't go away. All you need to do is vote with your feet.

If I'm in a minority let it be proven. Then I'll concede.
Remember I'm talking VR not pancake.
But even if l conceded I would not want the rendering peeled back just sodding well fixed as per what rollout Should have been.

You all think your so clever with your little witty comebacks thinking that they somehow score some points, when really the only impact they have is inside your own little imaginations.
