CQC: Wish list

Exactly.. Main game PvP is laughable. People jousting for 20 minutes like medieval knights. It's boring to do and even more boring to watch.

There were some PvP Leagues than nobody remembers. There was even one not long ago.. Who won? What squadrons / players were playing? Nobody knows except those directly involved. Nobody gives....

Whenever someone says they are PvP players in PvE game like Elite Dangerous I cringe. Why don't you find yoursef a real PvP game lol

CQC isn't an answer. It's far from being perfect. But at least no grind and fun to play.
Having gained Elite in CQC, how would you fix the mode?
Let's assume a great number of CMDRs take part on the regular. Vs what CQC is now, how would you make it better?

I'd like the CQC module unlocks to be able to be applied to our SLFs in the main game, give us some configuration options for our SLFs like we have with our main ships.

My feelings regarding ED (main game) and CQC are somewhat similar to Musketeers here. If i want PvP i play a proper PvP game, not a PvE game where PvP is possible. PvP is best when skill (with a tiny bit of luck) is the deciding factor.
I do like your idea of CQC unlocks being able to be applied to SLFs. Would bring in more CMDRs, if only just for that perk.

I will add to my previous post that I think Star Wars: Squadrons is a good indication of perhaps how CQC should have been approached, with a more objective based PvP style than simply an arena-style.

My suggestion is to change CQC into a faction/BGS related mode. You're part of whatever faction's fleet you choose to fly for and play in some kind of large scale pvp fleet war but you only use what ship they provide. Of course, there needs to be a large balance pass for combat because weapons and ships are totally out of whack.

Yeah, something similar to a squadron's main mode

Yeah, if we're going to look at this from the sim aspect of the game, the factions in that universe would ABSOLUTELY ensure weapons were always keeping up with defense tech. There are always arms races between defense and weapons IRL. Even an infantry fired RPG designed in 1989 can damage a modern MBT. Right now we have this odd bullet sponge combat. It gives the impression that all the defense engineers kept working but they fired all the weapon engineers for some reason.

Congratulations on all your CQC efforts! It's a fun mode, and I think Frontier should incorporate it more and more into the universe.

My biggest wish for CQC would be earning some kind of voucher, which could be handed in a station for influence with any BGS faction of your choice.

Or choosing a faction and station before you queue, which would be basically the same thing but could also be displayed in the match (like your sponsor) and without the voucher part which could be potentially abused by hoarding a bomb.
I can foresee this idea as being an, ongoing, alternative to the standard means of rank grinding.
The amounts of Rep / Inf would be small, but just having the opprotunity would bring in more CMDRs.
I like the idea of sponsors.

CQC needs players.
Things that would help accomplish that are what we should be talking about.
I believe:

CQC needs bots to fill out servers. Have bot kills count less or not at all when it comes to Exp or K/D ratio if the current community has a problem with that. I can understand them not wanting someone to rank up against just bots in what is currently, the only portion of this game that seems actually designed around direct PvP.

A comprehensive matchmaking system. A new player should never end up in a match with someone that has prestiged multiple times, unless they want to. Some people like the deep end filled with their own blood, most don't.

Some sort of in game reward. More credits, data/mats, Arx, cosmetics, or some combination of them would work towards bringing live players in to try CQC would prolly go a long way. Players in the top 10% should have no problem making 25-50M an hour at CQC to my way of thinking. Pilots that don't perform well should get at least a little something, and have it ramp up the earnings/rewards as players face and start winning against players at higher skill levels. Treat it it like a pro sport.

Add the game to the universe. Currently it's a tacked on thing with little in the way of a tangible effect on the game itself. Regular Galnet articles talking about the CQC League, and the occasional CQC centric CG would help with that.

Actual game modes might need some revamp. But I have no idea how that should be done. LOL

I think that would help. As it is, I used to play a few matches here and there, and either I got slaughtered by people I had zero business being in the same lobby with, or, on the rare occasion when I was winning, the other players just drop out of the lobby and leave me with no progression.

You pretty much have the same opinion I do and I think these are the main things CQC needs, most of these points wouldn’t take much to add since a lot of it is already in the game in some way, also thank you for giving such a good response that was actually helpful, clear points that actually help show what CQC needs be be a better version of what it is now.

1. Make it a downloadable standalone mode like Red Dead Online or GTA online, at the very least it would get people to download and and try it out.
2. Private matches with no progression, sometimes after I smoke medical marijuana I want to mess around with friends in CQC, they don't care about rank and the credit gain is so awful it won't matter. This would allow for community-driven tournaments.
3. Custom matches, limit to X ship with or without powerups. Good to train when no powerups are in play, then train with powerups in play. This would also not add to your rank progression. This would also allow for community-driven tournaments.
4. This one relies on a larger playerbase -- better matchmaking. There's no reason a level 1 should be queued up with Musketeer, Dek and Blastard but due to the population, it just has to be that way.
5. Add ARX purchases to CQC - Frontier says it's not worth allocating resources to CQC because there's an extremely small playerbase there...let us tell them we want more content the only way they care about....with our wallets. We can purchase paint jobs for SLF in main game, why not CQC? I would also suggest limiting paint colors to ones that won't give an advantage (pitch black) - if I could blaze with a pink ship, lasers and engine color it would make me feel better knowing someone got blown up by a pink ship. I don't believe decals should be a part of this because, really, who even sees them outside of free camera mode?

That's the exact kind of response I'm looking for. Ways to draw in CMDRs.
Your ideas of a CG is something I never thought of. Couple that with a GalNet article or two, would be great.
