CRITICAL explorer bug

This is terrible . Though we don't explore for the credits, we do like leaving our sigs out there to show our achievements .
I "had" over 4000 systems to my name and because we have never had the option to filter those in our Galactic map, we don't even have a way of checking out which ones are still credited to us :(

And maybe now we know why they didn't add this feature.

Yep, applies to everything. Find a nearby scanned body. Re-scan and submit data and its yours. Very unethical though. Personally I won't be handing in data until its fixed.

Not thinking of doing it, I'm 18,000ly out!

Just wondered that was all.

I do hope that they get this fixed ASAP. They surely can't shrug this one off?

When did this start? I mean after which release/patch or isn't anyone sure?

Thinking about it, if anyone is due to return after a long trip out, I'd hold off selling your data until it's fixed. At least that's what I would do.

So... "first discovered by" just changed to... "Last visited by"

Ha... this is sad.

You know, "last visited by" sounds like a great idea now. As long as the discovery data is also preserved somewhere, of course. :)

I know for sure it was OK as of 1.3.02. Seems like a server glitch.

I traded in a bunch of data on Sunday night at Lembava - all in-bubble stuff - and got the expected zero first discoveries then. So presumably this has only been happening since 1.3.04 this morning, which included "Various exploration data reliability improvements".

That is important and good to know. Thanks. :)

If UC goes offline while attempts are made to solve the problem, be very careful with your data, returning Explorers. Don't take unnecessary risks.

I wonder how that got messed up in the first place. Broken DB schema?
Every body can have only one "first" explorer, thus it has a unique constraint on it.

If the program code makes a mess and tries to insert a new row containing an explored body, it will get an exception by the DBMS. Thus one must deliberately have an UPDATE instead of an INSERT statement in the source code (breaking the business logic!) - and such a thing is overlooked in an audit?

not good :( just got back from work and waiting to update, I'm going to test scanning an tagged ice world somewhere and see if it gives me the tag

Classic face palm?

I hope they have backup logs of whose scanned what and can roll them back.

I'm a long way from home at the moment, does anyone know if they've took the cartographics webserver offline?

If it is indeed the server-sided "Various exploration data reliability improvements" change then I am confident they will be able to fix it quickly.

I'd appreciate a statement from Frontier as to wether we are breaking systems by scanning them or by by selling data.

PS: Whose label should be on Sag A? I noticed it looked fishy on my Sunday visit, but couldn't put a finger on it.

Come on guys...

Ok it's an issue that those systems we have zoomed around exploring may have a first discovered issue.

But I for one don't actually care - but I get some do. Behind this amazing game is a huge amount of data being stored, numbers and more numbers.

They will get it all back best case :)

but we have been there and they can't take that from us :)

I wasn't a massive fan of tagging systems but I know once you have implemented it you can't UN-implement it.

So good luck FD and I hope you can (as you have always before) fixed the problem and us old gruff explorers will be smiling again :)

Of course not, just sold some data myself.
This is a ridiculous oversight to ignore, but its an explorer problem so Im expecting it to be addressed some time in the next three weeks.

EDIT:
It basically means that the first discovered tag is now being awarded to the one who has sold the data LAST...
And not just for Sagittarius. For any celestial body in the game...

I wonder if it's repeatable for the same celestial body? i.e. Have several names on it in quick succession

Since the first discovered credits bonus isn't being granted, there's really no reason to do this. However I suspect that you can't I'm nearly positive this has something to do with them "upgrading" the storage method for exploration data. So once the old scan has been updated to new format, (along with a new tag) its set.
