Cry Havoc, And Let Slip The Dogs Of Destruction!

Where do we go when the NPCs grief us

I've never been griefed by an NPC. NPC pirates are just moms and dads struggling to feed their children. I almost feel bad for them when I don't have any cargo and they just sulk away all dejected.

Ive been griefed 3 times by NPCs, the last one he killed me while I stood motionless while in another room, I think alot of humans would have noticed I made no effort to move and maybe leave me be for a bit, and another almost killed me twice in a row, some humans leave you at 4 % hull cos they feel guilt, these NPCs just dont care

Were you clean, or did you have fines or maybe a bounty. The few times I've actually been stopped, the cops just let me go, I'm clean, pirates want what's in the cargo hold wich is always empty. It's only if I don't submit in time where they open fire, but apprently never hit because I've never had so much as a single cr of damage. But then, I'm in solo, and I recon they get bored with only me flying around.

Well that settles it, I'm definitely playing in Solo for now on! Oh, wait.....

Am I the only one who doesnt consider a random unprovoked attack griefing?

IMO griefing is making it impossible for you to play, i.e with camping & spawn killing, or trapping you somewhere.

A random murder is par for the course in Open if you ask me. Thats kind of what you sign up for.. Not everyone will 'initiate' or engage in respectful roleplay. Thats what I enjoy about it, what I like to call the DayZ effect.

What happened to OP happened to me on the day after PS4 launch, back when everyone was cooing in the 'Loving Open Play' thread. Started ironically by Duck :D

If I'm armed when they scan me, I send their children a message about how mom/dad was a bad person and that is why they aren't coming home. I don't stick around long enough to find out if they have children if I'm doing a cargo run, weapons are heavy and shields take up valuable cargo space. Submit+Boost+FSD.

Yup its tough out there, I have not been randomly murdered yet although I do believe people have attempted to do so with one recent Anaconda trying to get behind for inderdiction.

The point of Open is to be aware of your surroundings, if you are going in a dangerous place, be careful, I always check the radar regardless of what system I am in, 90% of the time its clear and nothing to see but, its the very first thing I do when jumping anywhere. Check the ships, scan them if you desire to see what they carry (if you are concerned), never fly straight to a station if you have hollow squares around you and you do not know their intention, sure if its a bunch of T6's its fine, if they are FDLs and Anacondas check first before doing stuff. So far this has served me well.

Oh and don't fly trade ships at trade CGs in Open without shields, you are painting a big X on your back.

Don't speed into stations in heavy populated station instances in Open as you are liable to get rammed and in trouble, stick to 100/MS when on final approach, if there is no one around speed as normal.

Still after all that I am sure one day I will get killed by an unprovoked attack as it wont be possible to avoid everything.

Fly safe CMDRs o7

This happened to me twice by separate players when first getting to the Abroin system for the latest Community goal. The first attack was from a wing of players against my Orca. I of course had no cargo/passengers or any wanted level. They did it simply for fun I assume. They never said anything. Second time in my Fer-de-Lance after just interdicting a wanted npc I was attacked right after and dude never said anything. This kinda put me off on open play but I think I'll just play privately around community goal systems from now on which sucks because open play is nice just seeing all the other Commanders.

Firstly, excuse my english and spelling. This isn’t my native language :)

Inspired by this thread i flew to Evarate from Abroin to see if i can find these “grievers”. Needles to say i fly in OP. I have had no problems with other Cmdrs in Abroin or in other systems in that matter. Haven’t even seen so manny other commander above Competent rank like i am. Maybe few Experts and Masters. Especially at the Nav points in CG systems. I fly fully A graded Python with modded weapons and shield.

So i jumped to Evarate to pick a fight, supercruised and camped there for hours. Nothing! Could it be possible that these cowards won’t attack me cause i’m clearly a fair match for them. To be clear, i'm not saying that i'm a top pilot or even close to have strongest and the baddest ship, but i'm a fair opponent for sure.

I just can’t understand people who gets satisfaction from killing Cmdrs that are no challenge for them. That just goes over my head. I have most respect for Cmdrs and Wings who hunt down these cowards and people who give escort services, like Iridium Wing does. Hats off! O7

No, what happened to the OP did not happen to you the day after PS4 launch, because we were all on relatively equal footing. Your Sidewinder was not taken out by a highly-engineered Python, that I can assure you. These days, however, new players are having their new Sidewinders taken out by highly engineered Pythons just for the lulz. If you think that's cool, then the OP should make you squee with delight [squeeeee]

One thing I'm not impressed with in this thread is the tone that people who don't choose to play in open are substandard players or playing the game wrong, i.e. "Real men play in open." While you macho men are combing your chest hairs in the mirror, I'll be enjoying my game my way ;)

Well said!

I said this, posting as a player and a fan.

The risk is half the fun. You made a few mistakes here. One, you went to Eravate. Two, you took a Diamondback Explorer to Eravate. Three, you didn't take some mates to Eravate after the event, to exact righteous revenge.
It was tongue in cheek but good advice: New players should get out of the starter systems as soon as they can. My 2nd post echoed this one. I'm here to help and have fun, it's the only reason I come on the forums.

As for criticising other players' choice of mode, the only one I can find in this thread was

While you macho men are combing your chest hairs in the mirror

... which wasn't by me. If you need help playing in open, feel free to ask for advice, it's what we're here for. If you want to play in solo that's fine too, that's what it's there for.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience in open, it happens rarely. And to me, never. I can help with that.

I was blown up without warning by another player. Just because my rebuy was next to nothing doesnt make it any less frustrating, especially as I was just getting to grips with the game. I didnt come to the forum to announce I was quitting Open play. In fact you can find my post in your original thread about 'Loving Open Play'.

No one is criticising you, & I have never said 'only real men play in Open' or anything of that ilk, your taking this way too personally. All I was saying is what happened to you is to be expected in the game mode that you chose to play in.

Learn from it & adjust, either by smarter play in Open or more carefree play in Solo.

I will say that I was at the CG last night in open in my Conda. I went to the high rez zone and there were a couple of others there which was no big deal. Well that was until I was taking down a wanted ship and one of the other commanders decided to fly right in front of me and I hit his ship. I have turrets on my ship so I can not just stop firing and I then became wanted. Needless to say they then turned on me. I got away but it was pure accident. I was heading to the station to turn in my bounties and pay my fines and a Viper MK IV pulled me out of cruz. It was the guy's buddy that I hit. I tried to tell him it was an accident and he flew right in front of my line of fire. They were upset I guess that I came into that Rez Zone and started cleaning up. I said sorry and I didn't kill his friend, it as a accident and try and fly more careful in the future. Well he decided that he wanted to take me on. Now, my conda is B rated except for shields and power distributor which is A. plus weapons are engineered as well as my shields, shield boosters and engines. I turned on him faster then he thought I would (I think he thought he could out maneuver me). Needless to say, I did not want to kill him so I left him with about 30% hull. He never had a chance to scratch my paint.

To all the players out there wanting to take on other commanders, that's fine but make sure the encounter is mutual and not just you. Commanders work hard for their ships and making good credits to improve those ships is not easy. People don't want to loose their ship for no reason.

Join MobiusPVE on PS4. It's open without the griefers. Lots of CMDRs around, especially during CGs.

This is a standard set up to gank or to get you out oh the res you are hunting in, the wing will have one fly in front of you as you are getting the kill to ensure you shoot them , this then makes you wanted and they can legaly go after you, it sucks but there is not much you can do about other than play on a private server, or find another Res site to hunt in or increase your hunting distance to the wing that is hunting. If that wing goes to follow then you know you are being set up.
