Cry Havoc, And Let Slip The Dogs Of Destruction!

This is a standard set up to gank or to get you out oh the res you are hunting in, the wing will have one fly in front of you as you are getting the kill to ensure you shoot them , this then makes you wanted and they can legaly go after you, it sucks but there is not much you can do about other than play on a private server, or find another Res site to hunt in or increase your hunting distance to the wing that is hunting. If that wing goes to follow then you know you are being set up.
That is exactly what happened... I usually play in solo at CG for this reason right here.

I stay away from the super populated systems (i.e. Starter Systems) as eventually, they'll become combat zones. My instance counter is still at 1, and the Station blew that one up before he could even scratch the paint on my Sidey. That was July 4th.

I might pay a visit to that system Old Duck with my Combat/Bounty Eagle and simply fly around to see what happens.

I think this was a one off thing. And honestly, this is what open play is about. You'll find 95% of the people are happy doing their own thing and not bothering anyone, the 5%, comes with the concept of Open Play. I've accepted that a long time ago in other games. Just the way it is.

Okie I've lost my DBX last night to a wing of three who interdicted and ganked me in one of the engineers' systems. I've lost some dozens of millions in explo data, plus a measly 300k rebuy on my engineered stuff.

This was totally my fault. I wasn't in an alert state (as one should be Open at all times), I didn't pay heed to the "3 new contacts" notification in the upper right, and I kind of panicked because of the sudden interdiction immediately after going and returning from SagA*, the sudden change of pace made me forget to full-pip the engines/shields and check their position correctly on the radar, whilst rapidly FA-offing to exposition and escape. Aside from that, I've made the mistake of flying a fully-jumprange orientated fit, with downgraded thrusters, downgraded PG and shields, making it way less likely to survive.

That said, net matching and the server were so awful that my flight controls got frozen as soon as I'd submitted, and because of this unreliability, I didn't jump into my FdL to lulzavenge.

Ouch, ouch, ouch!!!! I'm assuming you had lots of first discoveries.. I value those more than credits. Credits are temporary, our name in the stars is eternal ;) I feel for you, man!

Ouch....

ps - I'm opposed to combat logging, but I think I would have ripped every cable out of the wall anywhere near my PS4 if this happened to me, LOL

The time of peaceful coexistence amongst PS4 gamers has come to an end. The galaxy is now indeed "dangerous" if you play in open. I was just destroyed with impunity from a ship that has might as well been General Chang's cloaked Bird Of Prey, as I never was able to target and scan the ship before my very quick death. So here's my story, and may you learn and be prepared.

I went back to Eravate, in open, in my Diamondback Explorer. I wanted to see how open play was faring these days (it still suffers from incredibly long transitions). It didn't take long before I was interdicted by a hollow triangle. Even though I was chasing the escape vector better than average, I could tell I was going to lose early on. This implies my stalker had a powerful FSDI. I submitted and yet still suffered hull damage. General Chang (not his real name) immediately opened fire. No role play, no witty "You killed my father, prepare to die!" just fire. I succumbed quickly.

Now here's the thing - my DBX was fitted for running missions. I had 5C Biweave shields, A-rated power plant and distributor, and a few hull reinforcements. All that and I melted like butter under whatever ship attacked me. I had zero cargo at the time, not that Chang bothered to scan. There was nothing to be gained from killing me - this was cold-blooded murder, plain and simple, by a cold, calculating, prepared killer.

I can't imagine all the poor "Harmless" Sidewinders I encountered earlier falling prey to this devil. Eravate is a popular hangout of new players. It's pure coincidence that I came to this system at this hour on this day. There are sharks in waters of unsuspecting innocents, they have the taste of blood in the water, and they want more!

You'll notice I'm not using the term "griefer" or "ganker" in my description (though they may be applicable). This guy didn't cheat, he killed murdered me fair and square, and the system authorities came to my rescue, just too late. I'm not even mad. I'm sitting on a heap of credits, and I had one tiny bounty which I lost during my death, so I can absorb the rebuy and not cry. I am, however, switching to MobiusPVE for now on, at least until FDev releases their "karma" system. You will either understand or not, I'm not going to make this TL;DR by defending my decision.

So be warned, there are incredibly powerful ships out there. They cannot be bargained with. They cannot be reasoned with. They don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead!

Okay. Still on holiday, still haven't actually started yet... (extended backstory, this is all a training montage..)

I'll be starting in open. Then heading out.

I don't personally think that playing in solo or private servers helps. Otherwise there will be no one left in open.

I'm going head of where it's quiet and learn how to defend myself. I don't know if I'll be good at it, but I'll accept that this is the simulation I'm in and that these people exist and make it dangerous.

Hopefully, by then I'll be in groups with some of you, and can arrange to meet up if we want to. That would be, for me, a proper mission by itself. That could be awesome. It's also something that my character will want to do. (I'm not totally sure whether anyone is going the full LARP in voice chat, it would be great if you are....)

I just think that leaving to a private space removes good players from open.

We need to keep the averages up.

I'm pretty sure that I'm in the minority, so don't worry about open being empty, unless people quit played ED out of frustration. And I think you'll do fine in open, as you know what you're getting into. But for every new player who is a forum regular, there are ten who are not. Imagine playing ED for the first time with none of the knowledge you've gained from this forum, trying to learn the ropes, and then being utterly and completely destroyed out of the gate by what some call "griefers".

But I agree with almost everything you say. I hope to make open my default game mode again once Frontier implements their karma (C&P) system. My alt character is embracing the danger of open, and Duck ventures into open when in his cheap Viper III looking for bounties.

Anyway, scan through this thread and take heart. You'll see that the majority are not just okay with open, they are very much pro-open, so you'll have some good mates to mission up with :)

Newbies that aren't spoiled by these forums are likely better off. "knowledge" gained here is not worth much.

I don't know about that.
I know the current narratives and I know what I'm in for. I understand what's it there, I know exactly what I'm going to do.
How much do new starters really learn by just bumbling between planets?
It's why there is a community (and why we should all fly open, and chat)

As everyone who's read my retorts knows, I only play in solo and none of my ships have ever had any weapons with the exception of mains. Yes, mines are weapons, but only defence, one cannot utilize them as offensive. I've never fired a shot!

My question is:
With the exception of muliplayer, what is the difference between Mobius and solo. I mean, in solo there's only NPC's to deal with, and in Mobius humans aren't alllowed to gack another human, but what about NPC's?

I cant see how anyone is worse off from sharing tips in a community.

Are you just referring to the PS4 section?

NPCs are NPCs are NPCs. They behave the same in all modes. So in Mobius, you might encounter other players, though it's pretty rare. When you do encounter another player, you know they signed a contract to "not ruin other players' gameplay."

I'm like you in that I much more enjoy outfitting my exploration and trading ships to perform their role and not have to worry about "griefers". I didn't start this way - my first cargo ship was an armed-to-the-teeth Keelback, but my gaming style has "evolved" over time.

So yes, come join us at MobiusPVE - it was created for players like us, and at 37,000 strong (across all the platforms), you and I are not alone in our preferred game-play style. Speaking of, you might appreciate the "I Play on Solo Mode" thread over on DD.

Even if I happen to get "ganked" I think Open Play is the whole point of the game. My opinion and I'll stick to it. I have to adapt and prepare for it, it's inevitable. Each will have their own play style.

I was delivering for some lithium last night for the CG and noticed someone as on the local chat where they could find Imperial Slaves. The next moment the backdrop was lit up by laserfire. Now these events may be completely unrelated, but I'm hoping not. Even though it was just a background activity, it's that kind of background activity I want to see in the game =]

I agree in that it is the point of the game, & 75% of the time ill play in Open, its more immersive IMO. However, there are some times when I dont have the energy to keep my wits about me at all times & just want to earn some credits in repetitive monotony with one eye on my phone watching Netflix. For those times, im grateful for Solo, & im glad others have the choice.
