Deep Disappointment and Disillusionment - A Console Player's Farewell to Elite Dangerous

Im disappointed there isn't an easy way to claim another CMDR's stuffs but more importantly, after so many months...I'm the first to ask "can I have your stuffs?" What has become of this community?
On a brighter note, see you when you return!

Haha, who wants Legacy Stuffz lolz!

The PC is almost infinitely upgradable.
Consoles arnt. Each release of a new console is a whole new ballgame for the devs. 3 to 5 yrs later their obsolete and another crop arrives.
It's just easier for the devs to focus on one platform.
They dropped mac too.
Fact isfor them it makes their life easier.
PC peripherals like tobii eye tracker are a good example of how much better the PC platform is. Gpu, cpu, ram, mobos, so on so forth..
And yes perhaps we're (pcgamers) mugs for staying on the treadmill of upgrading.
Personally I've spent a fortune on my rig.
And Op is right it's a damn shame. But I do see fdevs pov.
And no, their isn't any other game like elite. Not even close.
That other game proports to be. But it isn't.
One thing I could never understand about SC is how they spam exploration ships, to explore what? One system, soon to be 2... sheesh!

How did you manage to state two facts and then come to the exact wrong conclusion from them?

Consoles have always been notorious precisely because every user has the exact same hardware, while PCs have been infamous precisely because there are approximately as many hardware combinations as there are users, which has always been a complete headache for developers. That's exactly where you get the "visual glitches when using (insert GPU manufacturer here)'s GPU model (insert model code here)" and so on and so forth. That's exactly where you get all the complaints about the game running slow on certain PCs. On the console side, however, if it works for one user it works for all users. No need to test on literally thousands of different combinations of hardware and software.

There's also a very strange notion put forward by some people in this thread that the PS5 would somehow be very old, obsolete and slow hardware. Where is this notion coming from? I am pretty certain that the PS5 is much faster than the PC of at least 90% of PC users who play ED. (That notion might be coming from some players who have top-of-the-line super-expensive PC hardware, and live in the illusion that all PC users have similar hardware. That couldn't be farther from the truth. The people who have very modern PC hardware are but a small fraction of all PC users, even all ED players.)

It's not a question of hardware prowess. It's a question of will.

With a heavy heart and a lamentation that reverberates throughout the console player's ranks, fly dangerous PC users... and good luck,

I agree, the myriad of PC connotations is mind-boggling.
But the architecture is consistent.
You require windoze or some other OS. You require a gpu cpu etc etc.
That's a standard set by IBM many years ago.
They may differ yes. But their all essentially the same.
I'm not a fan of the way gaming is hardware wise. The rip off Nvidia do every generation is a classic example of that.
And yes most don't have a ninja rig true.
PCs are expensive yup.
No buts! Except one, if your a passionate gamer, you do what's needed to get the game to run the way you want it to.

Indeed!

I was only looking recently at the rest of Frontier's games - they have about a dozen active games, including five on PS5, including at least one of them using the same engine as Elite!

They're not the "small company with no other games, money or staff", some people make them out to be!

If they can release other multiplatform games on the "next gen " consoles, why not Elite?! 😯😂🩲😀🤘🤞 .

We're all here literally with our wallets open, waiting and they're doing nothing about it! 😯😂😐 .

Literally take my money 💰

I really hope Ascendancy turns things around for FD so you guys finally get the game back on your beloved consoles. Technically there is no reason I can think of why, at the very least, Horizons 4.0 can't run on the platform of your choice. I'm running the game on a laptop with an i7 two or more generations old with a built-in AMD GPU with little problems (it will probably choke and die on EDO though 🤣).

Here's hoping for better days 🍻🚀

If you are playing Horizons 4.0 you are, in fact, running EDO.

I suspect that Horizon 4.0 isn't running many things that are EDO specific because my 16GB of RAM is barely touched. Been reading accounts of PC rigs much more powerful than mine labouring under the stress because EDO, under some circumstances, may require more than just 16gb.

It is running everything that is EDO specific, you just can't do any of them, like land on atmospheric planets, walk around space stations etc. Next time you dock in a spaceport have a look around in free camera and tell me you don't see the lift annex. In fact my old laptop running a RTX 2070 ran EDO fine until it started dying, if PC rigs much more powerful than yours are labouring under EDO then there's something else going on.
