Wealthy white westerners basking in the glow of globalization, using internet, owning advanced computers and having a hospital no more than 20 minutes away.

You know, the people who complain about being downtrodden masses and hating immigrants from third world countries looking for a better life.

You do not like the white westerners ?

:)

You know that's not true. The middle classes across western democracies are dwindling, civil rights are eroding, wage inequity is at levels not seen since the twenties and on a host of important issues the needs of the Coch brothers and the Cheneys of the world is being looked after while the rest of the world struggles. It's Fox News and MSN, Democrats and Republicans, two party corrupt politics driving everything to a head. Blame the racists and biggots if you want but there are those of us who saw that enough was enough with being lied to and we'd rather bring the house down than hand them the keys.

I am a white westerner.

I don't like white westerners middle class westerners who earnestly believe they are victims of a system that continually and obviously favours them. Willful ignorance of the world is not a virtue.

Right.

Have you had a look in Syria lately? What about Libya? Bangladesh? Nairobi? Eritrea? Nigeria? China? Malaysia? India? North Korea? Mongolia? Iran? Afghanistan? Zimbabwe? Botswana? Palestine? Egypt? Tunisia?

Do you have a fridge full of food right now? Do you complain when you don't have internet access? Were you able to, you know, go out and vote for something recently? Do you have so much clean water that you take a dump in it?

In terms of world population you are part of the elite.

well i woke up this morning and it was like groundhog day.

Brexit MK2! On the bright said at least the crazies in America are only there for 4 years so on balance i think they still have it better than the uk.

Interesting you mention Libya and Syria where expensive proxy wars have been waged making them poorer and working and middleclass US and Europeans poorer. Also in Ireland we have the highest rate of homelessness since the potato famine due to rising rents and falling incomes, but I suppose thats just us being whiny white westerners right?

Your intentions are praiseworthy, but unfortunately, the Western world can not take care of all the human misery. Sadly. The west already makes a lot

Complaining about homelessness is not being whiny.

Complaining about immigration, minority rights, and international institutions (such as the EU) which actually seek to protect poor people through various methods against those who actively seek to punish the poor (such as Murdoch), at the behest of the elites (like Murdoch), is not only being whiny but demonstrates a lack of engagement and a high degree of cognitive dissonance.

Now consider the way that migration is going, are the lots of people abandoning Ireland (or the UK or the US) and racing to live in Libya, Syria etc? According to a poster above you it's all one way.

That demonstrably is because life is better in the west - so much better people are literally risking their lives to be here.

We are the elite, there is no escaping that.

I'd say we're more pawns of the Elite.

As a white middle class male I have no power, all I have is a vote. A vote which in the General Election & Brexit made no difference to the general consensus.

It's all good saying we are the "Elite", we have a privilidged life, but we are NOT the elite.

I have this argument monthly with my father, he says life is so much better here, and yes it is. My argument is that why are we tolerant of injustice here just because it's less severe than in Egypt, Palestine etc? We should deal with all inequality and injustice with equal passion, or how can we have the higher ground when talking to these "troubled" countries?

People here sound like they're saying "just be happy with what you've got", I say no to that. I appreciate that we have it good, but I'm not going to lie down and think that because I'm privilidged to be born as a white middle class male in the west I'm therefore part of the Elite and part of everything that's wrong with humanity at the moment.

Take South Korea, life is pretty good for many of them right now, they have health care & internet, but they have one of the most corrupt leaders with the lowest approval rating ever. Should they just lie down and take it because they have a privilidged lifestyle?

there is a republican majority, that does not equal a majority for everything Trump wants.

It does not, but consider that most Republicans actually have harsher views than Trump it starts to get scary.

Trump didn't have any issue with until he decided that would win him votes, the Republican party on the other hand will bring through some legislation that will punish women who want to get an :(

Ok I get that and agree with a lot of it, but the EU did nothing to protect us from from this situation by twisting the knife forcing us to pay junior bondholders of the failed banks. Look at guys like Barroso going straight to Goldman Sachs on retirement, how is that 'protecting the poor'?. The EU in its entirety is slowly dissolving the idea protecting the poor trying to force through free trade agreements that further weaken the rights of citizens. I don't blame immigrants and never did(and this is true for many people who voted Brexit and I'm sure for Trump), however the policy of prosecuting wars that nobody wanted or had any say in(especially Libya) in has caused an enormous amount of the misery in those countries as well as increasing immigration to Europe resulting in more competition for the limited housing and benefits available. Murdoch and his crappy media empire have little to do with it.

Well the EC is trying to gift you countless billions from Apple. So there's that.

Haha that is true, but unfortunately our country is completely dependent on multinationals(our local economy is very weak) and the fear of a mass pullout will mean that money will never be seen here. There is good people in the EU commision(Vesteger is one of the best), but there needs to be more say in binding trade agreements(referendums preferably) etc that have an enormous effect on peoples lives. Allowing politicians who take corporate donations to have sole control over it is disastrous for ordinary people.

I have. Have you? A vote for Hillary would be a vote of consent to all of that.

At OP: Thanks for posting this. As a Swede, I don't care much for the election, but I've been curious on the candidate's stand points.

Brexit MK2! On the bright said at least the crazies in America are only there for 4 years so on balance i think they still have it better than the uk.

One of Trump's supporters dutifully followed his advice and ensured the "correct" type of voting took place. <sigh> Expect the same thing to happen at the next election.

In fact what I'm expecting today is the same thing that happened after the Brexit result. All the bigots and all the triple K Americans now feel that they have a mandate to harass immigrants.
