I wish I knew myself what the process will be as I am a little concerned how it is going to be organized.

The only thing I could see working is on-line polls generated from internal discussion points between FD and the DDF.

As nice as it would be nice to physically go to FD, that doesn't seem like a good idea for many reasons. :p

I really think ppl should lower the expectations on what they expect from the DDF.

If ppl go in there thinking they will have a great deal of influence I personally think they will be disappointed.

To keep the DDF running at a level to satisfy the crowd of 600+ ppl will require someone like Michael(from the KS).

And I am pretty sure that that wont happen.

I hope and prey that I will be proved wrong on this, but I guess time will tell :)

I'm pretty sure Michael said he'd be around in the DDF on a daily basis. He offered it as a selling point to get pledges. ;)

But yes. There are some on here who seem to have a few entitlement issues... they seem to forget it's Frontier's game and we are simply an advisory council to be ignored / listened to as they see fit.

I hope people don't think that about me just for being in the DDF

I personally don't really want or expect to get any special treatment, I am just glad to be part of the process; and I want to be the best I can at that.

When the game is released, I want to start at the most basic point I can too; I don't really want to take advantage of the 'better' starts in the long term.

I for one dont :) cant speak for everyone else ofc.

And I too am just happy to be part of the process. And if Michael will be there on a daily basis as @Juniper pointed out then it will be much better than what I expected.

Ditto.

I'm in the DDF by default - as my website raised enough £'s for me to make a big pledge, but that's only so this game *could* happen - I dont want to change what DavidB has in mind - he's the genius not me.

I see it as a very special priviledge to have an insiders look at Frontier / Game development process & will only try and make an influence if something looks terribly wrong - like them softening the difficulty for mass appeal.

But I dont expect that to happen, so I will simply be a spectator.

:)

One thing people need to remember is there isn't an NDA required, and there's no restriction on journalists / competitor employees being involved. The logical conclusion from that is that there won't be any access to information that they aren't happy to see widely distributed. That in itself is enough to prevent a lot of interesting stuff.

There may be 600 people now, but I'm betting there won't be all that many in 6 months. I'm also thinking that it'll be 6 months or more before the DDF really kicks off, for now they will be working on getting the engine made and the core mechanics, I'm assuming the DDF will be more involved with things like fine tuning and balance and the like, stuff which comes later.

I'm personally opposed to polls etc, unless only frontier get the results. Aside from lacking any nuance they also lead to an expectation that their result will be taken as-is; design by committee is bad and while they should be listening to our opinions etc, you need someone with a strong vision and absolute power to ensure thing keep going in a consistent direction.

Being part of the process is what most people are looking forward to. I see many people humbled by being able to have the unique opportunity and the DDF should be a great experience for all those involved.

I guess what this sort of thing could (in theory) end up with is a situation where a bunch of people that decide they want to spend the money on it, have this kind of game design decision making, but have no experience of Elite.

This isn't the case (as we have some old time Elite players in this tier), but it is a risk of that kind of system. I would have loved to roll up my sleeves in the design process, and i could afford the entry fee, BUT i have a limit on what a computer game is worth to me.

However i completely expect that what the design decision forum members won't be able to do is go against the better judgement of the FD developers, so in that respect i think it will be fine. It will be an interesting trip for those that get to closer see the whole process (and maybe are not that familiar with it) of game development, and maybe they can act as a bridge to the rest of us, letting us know some of the interesting things they are seeing and being asked about?

I sure hope there is an NDA, and that the penalty for breaking it be severe.

If there is an NDA, chances are we will get to see more of the goodies, and thats a plus in my book.

Let them watermark the alpha/beta so we each get a special version with our username in it,so we cant leak stuff.

I must say since the average age of us is .... eeerrr older :) then the chances of leaks are smaller(at least I hope so).

Just my 2 cents on the matter.

I hope so too, but in reality it'll be impossible to enforce and the expense of it would probably far outweigh what we paid.

The alpha / beta will require access to the server to play, so people leaking the client shouldn't matter too much.

Michael said in the KS that there was unlikely to be an NDA.

As for the client in alpha / beta, I think we need to be careful there. The alpha / beta will be for testing MP for sure, as they will use the metrics obtained for balancing purposes, but we shouldn't rule out the possibility that we could also have the option to play test offline if we chose. In that circumstance, leaking either client would be a pretty major breach.

I am also very happy to be an DDF member... until now I dont have a clear vision how this will work, and we will help to do! But I trust that it will be worth the massive amount I did spend....

I would expect the Private Backers Forum to have access to someone from Frontier to answer any questions, sort of like Michael did on Kickstarter. I backed at a higher level and saw the forum as just a perk of that, I don't think I would have backed that pledge for that reward alone.

I think one of the best things is that the average age of backers is, how shall I put it ... north of 30.

There will be a lot of game and life experience in the group and I'm sure that the majority of us who pledged for the DDF did so from a love of the original game and are passionate about trying to help, in some small way, make ED a worthy successor.

I think with the amount of mature members within the DDF it will be a blessing as i would guess that most of us can say we was there at the dawn of home gaming, with this in mind we have seen the ba5tardisation of home entertainment from fun original games to the copy and paste generation we have now with there day 1 DLC. so having a mature community within the DDF i think we can safely say to the others that are not within the DDF but are equally passionate about elite that you are in good hands.

For me, I'm just happy to see the DDF as a once in a lifetime opportunity to sit that little bit closer to the development of a game I thought I would never see, and a game series which I love so much. If, as part of the DDF, I get to take some small part in helping to shape the new universe of Elite:Dangerous (within the boundaries defined by DB and FD) then all the better. I'm actually very excited to see how it all plays out.

Had to quote this good fellow as i actually could have written it myself. exact same sentiments.
