Destroyed for no reason?

Just happened as I was searching for Jamiesons Wreckage.
Out of nowhere, no warning just blasted out of the sky. I had no cargo, no data.

Why are some players still cretins in this game? I've only started playing after some time away from it and it was never like this back then.

One idiot xbox player ruined it for me tbh. Every other commander I've met has been brilliant in that they communicate etc. I hope that turd bucket get spaced by someone equally stupid.

They role play it as if they are protecting some sacred shrine, but it's just PK griefing.

Stay in solo or PG. Or don't fly a paper ship.

You need solo (or at least not Open) to relog on the site ...
This ^.

I play in open 99% of the time, but for this CG, I've been swapping between solo and PG to farm Jameson's Cobra. Occasionally I'll pop into Open to see if anybody is there. I ran into a Krait the other day who tried to boop me. He was very frustrated that he couldn't catch my 680m/s Viper MKIII.

Edit: A better way to grief you would have been to just sit there and watch as you kept relogging into an exhausted instance :)
Does it work that way with data, though? Several times, I've been on the ground with other SRV's and we were all able to scan the data points....or at least I got all four. So did I snake the other guys data? Or does that just work with collectable stuffs?

No idea. But given you need to relog to scan the same data it seems likely that logging back into the same instance wouldn't work. But hey - it was only a joke, and it doesn't matter because .. griefers

Hull reinforcement is only 4D.
Power plant 6B
Shield generator 5E
Power distribution 6D

5E shield gen.... LOL.

Yeah, your going to need to fix that to go into open at a popular CG spot. As for the 'no reason' thing... well, they make up a reason and roll with it. Since the Game provides no real narrative. Every CG, no matter what it is, they will arrive with some 'reason' that cargo ships or explorers need killing.

I've been wondering too? I'm guessing it must somehow work since people seem to be doing it quite a bit in open from the comments, but I would have thought in that instance if a thing is scanned, it's scanned.

Oh, I know...but I'm just curious. I think data point behave differently, though.

I think data works differently, though. It's a continually regenerating supply, unlike - say - chemical manipulators. Once I scoop them up, they are gone for everyone in the instance. But a data node is still transmitting. It only cuts me off once I've scanned it. I don't think it cuts others off. Like I said earlier, I've been in open with several other SRV's in the instance and managed to scan all four comms beacons. So....working as intended? 🤷‍♂️

The really strange thing about those sites is the way that the Ship Core is only scannable once, but the data points just need a relog. So it's not like they can't limit scans when they choose.
