Well, nice try but i was not talking about GRAPHICS. I do not come along with their decision about the ART STYLE. Even if the game needs some improvements in terms of graphics its still alpha and they will fix the majority of graphic errors. But the art style wont change in the future and all i can say is that in MY eyes it looks way too childish and like something out of 2008! Thats an opinion, not a fact.

I would prefer something like this:

That's the art style from RCTW and people really don't like that as you can see in the comments on YouTube. If you really like this style, you should not pay your attention to Planet Coaster, because Planet Coaster is going to have a "childish" look as you said. But with that look, it's much easier to implement things into the game so that they look very detailed and some kind of realistic.

First post here!
Looking forward to play this game, it is looking really good!
The only thing that makes me disappointed is the "peeps" - they are ugly lol [squeeeeee].
But overall, i'm loving this game!! Thank you Frontier :D

We don't use the term "Peeps" on here, we refer to them as "Guests" . They have been designed to be slightly cartoony to reflect with the style of the game and just because the faces are not actually human looking, they are what everyone on here has fell in love with.

I'm new to this forum and I really like this game!
I would like to get the early bird access but I can't find the basic settings and I don't think my computer will handle it :/

We won't know the final spec until the game is on the cusp of being released in Q4 of this year.

The final specifications will depend on optimizations that they make by fixing reported bugs and analyzing the telemetry that they collect from the Alpha/Beta testers so it will likely improve the closer we get to release.

As a general rule of thumb you should look to current minimum specs for Elite Dangerous: Horizons as a guideline because Planet Coaster runs on the same Engine:

  • OS: Windows 7/8/10 64-bit
  • Processor: Quad Core CPU (4 x 2Ghz)
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Nvidia GTX 470 / ATI 7240HD (DirectX 11 functionality required)

Well to be honest I suggest you go back to the Planet you came from. Everyone on here are absolutely satisfied with what we have seen so far. This game is not meant to have real coaster designing tools like No Limits 2. It is a Theme Park simulation game where you can run and manage a theme park, with what you create. There has been nothing negative about this game so far and I really don't care what you think about it, this game is going to appeal to a big audience, it isn't childish at all it is meant to be a fun game to play without being too serious and will appeal to all ages including me and I am probably old enough to be your granddad.

Ew wait, just because "everyone" loves the game so far i have to love it too? Sorry but there is nothing wrong with having a different opinion. Why are you so angry with me not getting into Planet Coasters Art Style?!

If you are old enough to be my granddad than i am very concerned about your way of handling others opinions. Once again we are not talking about facts we are talking about taste and there is no right and wrong granny[redface]

Manu, I apologise I was just under the impression that you were having a dig at how the game looks, when everyone else seems to like the style. In future I will keep my mouth shut, ok. [mouth shut]

Thank you for your answer Harbinger, I didn't want to purchase the game and I was right because my computer won't be efficient enough to run it. Looks like I'll have to wait for the release!

I'll weigh in on all of this. I definitely respect your opinion to prefer a different art style than they have, there is nothing at all wrong with that.

I will, however, disagree with that opinion and give my thoughts on the matter. I am actually a huge supporter of them leaning towards the cartoony art style. I believe that for a game of this style, the art style they have chosen for it gives it a very polished look and reminds me very much of Cities:Skylines in comparison to Cities XL in it's respective genre. The more realistic look is very hard to pull off correctly, and can very easily result in things looking very awkward such as it does with Cities XL, whereas a cartoony look is a much safer bet, and makes everything look very polished such as how Cities:Skylines does.

Last, it has been shown by many games that a cartoon-esque art style is much more likely to graphically last through the years than a realistic art style. Realistic art styles are incredibly dependant on the technology around at any given time, and when new technology comes out that art style immediately looks dated as future games can look more realistic. A prime example of all of this is World of Warcraft. It took a very cartoony art style and as a result, with only minor tweaks to graphics through the years, has held up immensely well well over a decade past it's release. Yeah, it looks relatively dated now, but immensely less dated than any other game from around 2004.

I think they have done a phenomenal job with balancing the cartoony look with the expectation of detailed graphics of this day and age, and I think it's specific art style will be one of it's selling features to a large portion of the population.

No game will ever satisfy everyone. I personally think RCTW looks better (visually) because of how vibrant and clear everything looks- unlike Planet Coaster which looks a bit hazy right now. At times like there's a thick fog. ...I believe the RCTW beta was like this as well.

As for the graphics....this is a casual game, so they are trying to make it so that it can run on as many rigs as possible. I also doubt it's running on max settings as the rides and guests don't look as nice as they do in the prerendered content, which I'm hoping is not some sort of bait and switch but their goal.

As to why the game looks better in some places and not others....it's possible that parts of it were prerendered, while other were live captures (15-30FPS.)

Why do u think Planet Coaster Graphics will look bad ? That is just a Dev Blog where is all together on a developing phase. U can see the details at every weekend pictures they show us. There are a lot of details and i like the graphic style so much, much more than the oter game. Why ? Is more detailed, more fidelity to the real rides, and not that strange mix of rides that we can see on "the other game"... I'm not agree with you. Anyway, if u are searching another style, u shuld try RCTW or just NoLimits2.

I think because this game looks light years ahead of RCTW people are holding it up to the same level already. 2 months from release if we are seeing these problems, yeah start kicking up a fuss. Remember what RCTW looked like 11 months from release?

I too look at some of the little inconsistencies and bugs and grit my teeth, it's what we do, we want to see perfect. I just cant see what can be done that would take 10-11 months? It looks so good and packed with features, even added more content, bug fixing and fine tuning that is a hell of a lot of time. Take a glance over at the RCTW forums and remember they have 1-2 months to sort that out.

I would guess the guest/peeps look a little more basic in this video since optimization isnt in and the devs likely wanted the park to remain and look fluid, so they may have turned down detail a bit to be sure to accomplish that.

This looks wonderful. I have a more positive outlook on this game compared to RCTW, though I believe both can be great.

I haven't been following along with development too closely, though. Any word on what sort of park management is going to be included? And what sort of facilities we will have to manage? - Restaurants, Hotels, other features and utilities. Just curious, I wasn't sure how much information they've actually confirmed up to this point.

Great work, Frontier!

Yup.
That's usually why I always say "but this is pre-alpha" Low frame rates, bugs, etc. are to be expected. Have to lay the foundation down before you can start building the house.

I have one important question to me : in "sim-game" i only play scenarios (or i'm quickly bored), so have you planned to put a lot of them in the game ? or a scenarios editor maybee ?

Agreed ... For me the best Sim games are the ones that actually have gameplay rather than just build something, there has to be a motivation to do it in the first place.

This is an area I would also like to have some information on, when Frontier are ready to show it. Saying that given that this isn't an alpha yet, its look damn impressive already. I can't believe people are complaining about how the game looks. It has its own distinct style, thats what Frontier have chosen ... get over it.

Personally I love the art style myelf, it is in no way childish or retro. It fits with what Frontier are making.

...and the game does have UGC. [noob]
Like Angelis, I didn't manage to realize where this has been confirmed.
Please, show us where this was shown and then I'll probably think about seriously pre-ordering the game (UGC is a crucial factor for me).
Nevertheless, I saw some different types of coaster cars - even though they are all in a Vekoma-track -, so Vekoma DLC Double Looping Coaster confirmed?
Let's hope that the next Dev Diary will show us the Intamin and B&M tracks too!
