Development Update 1 - June

They change actually a lot in the UI. For details have a look at the last Supercruise stream, there they show the changed Outfitting UI and talk a bit about the rest.
Yup! Gotta give credit where credit is due. They seemed to have made good changes to the outfitting UI and some QoL changes to the system map from what the stream showed. Something will be bugged when it releases tomorrow for sure - as is the spirit of Frontier - but it looks fundamentally better.

Arthur, with the best will in the world, a road map was promised. Given the current climate, is now the time to not deliver on promises?
True. Who is this Suit sitting on all the information we want and not letting anything out???

I want to know:
1. Will there be Thargoids on foot?
2. Will there be new SRVs?
3. Will there be base Buidling? (as we see all those vehicle and building schematics in game)
4. Whats in that 10 year plan that was spoken about during the "Beyond" panel at the Frontier Expo?

  • will 1, 2 & 3 come when console launches?
  • did everything change? if so because of what and to what?
  • will i ever be able to fly through clouds, land on grassy planes and go submarine with my ship?
  • will we ever be able to fly into the atmosphere of gas giants?
  • will we ever be able to land on lava- oder waterworlds?

This was not the time to talk about Bugfixing.

I have great appreciation to the incredible task of building an FPS shooter on top of an Galaxy wide and incredibly detailed Space Simulator. This is truly an outstanding achievement. All you Devs can be proud of that. I have a lot of fun playing Odyssey. I love you guys and want the game to succeed, as we all do.

But as it seems, some guy/girl in charge at Frontier, does not like to share any future plans. Or he/she likes to surprise us. Alright, keep some secrets to surprise us on updates. But please show us the grand scheme of things. - Or is there no plan at all ????????

It's all great!

BUT

That's not enough ... At this rate, the covid will have disappeared from the planet before reaching a suitable result ...

That’s because they’re all pouring through the hours of amazing details to read in the dev post that was going to make us all really happy at the end of the month. I’m sure they’ll all be back online soon.

Thank u FD!
However... I must admit, here is very little info on whats going to be next for Odessy.
Very disapointing, you better speed up and give some road map to people adn TRY YOUR BEST to stick to it!

Planetary features that appear to repeat (https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/34834)
  • We understand this is an important topic within the community. As mentioned at the start of the article, we want to share the challenges as well as the positives. Investigations are still ongoing, however, it must be said that this is proving to be a very significant technical challenge. At the current time we do not have a workable solution. BUT, investigations wi
Is this a joke or what? One of the main features of the dlc is broken and devs still have no clue how to fix it when it should've been ready more than one month ago when they cashed all the people money???

Improvements to lighting - We fixed it!
Sadly, no, that's not quite correct. They poked at it, in a few more places. This is a repeated pattern in Fdev's adjustments - instead of making a systematic interpretation, it's poke a bit here, a bit there, and say "there, it's closer!" Last time I went trawling through the change log, at least 1/3 of those I could verify had this property. Nudged, not fixed. Same thing for all those paintjobs that get their colours adjusted instead of restoring their material properties, and that's something they take actual money for.

I still marvel at how many times such a simple thing as matching the orientation of a space station with its model gets broken. The most recent "fix" switched which axis it is 90 degrees off on, and it's often not even showing the right model (funny, Mitra Estate in Farack shows different models depending on how it's targeted?).

All of those are low hanging fruit as fixes go; easy to check, easy to change. Often things left as introductory tasks to find your way around a codebase. But... this is what gets signed off on. This is the example being set.

Issue Tracker
Another area we like to keep an eye on is our Issue Tracker. This allows us to see and measure the key issues within the community, as voted for by you. We know that many of you are keen to have an update on the top issues. So we’ve listed out the top five items below and given some direct thoughts and feedback on each one of them.
So, after years of telling you how broken the "issue tracker" is, here's the played up update: You looked at several of the issues inside it. Not at the many issues preventing people posting issues. Yep, more than Elite is broken.

Frontier made £16.6m in 2020.. Hardly the 100s of millions you are peddling?
Interesting, perhaps my comments were a little complex.

How much has SC earned in not yet producing a product? ($300+ million, allegedly)
NMS had netted in the region of $100 million in its first 2 years of existence.
How much has ED netted since release?

Now, about those $100's of millions... They are already being spent on products / non-products so the market exists for a released product to compete... Sorry, I can't explain it any simpler.

I think we should cool our thrusters for a short time with the 'when we will get this new thing added in' questions.

How can you even begin to ask for new things when they need to fix the basic functionality of the game...um, I mean beta release?

I am slightly encouraged by a sense of some progress thusfar, albeit painfully slow. And I am still feeling extremely salty that you released this game for the sole fact you needed to pad financial books. I know you'll never admit it, FDev, but that's what you did. And you've clearly alienated many core fans. Wasted our time with a useless alpha, ignored the feedback from it, and then frankly lied to me and stole my cash.

I'll give it another month or two. Mainly not because of the company, or the game, but because I owe it to the CMs who are taking a lot of crap...when all they are trying to do is their best to help. It has not gone un-noticed, and you deserve a bit more of a chance. I'm cheering for you, but I'm way up in the back of the stands right now.
