Development Update 1 - June

Hypothetical question:
If frontier said, we’re running another Kickstarter for ship interiors or weather effects etc insert your dreams here…. Would you fund it to allow them to get more developers onboard and accelerate development.

I know I would. I’d be interested if others would too. I didn’t track the original kick starter so not sure if these things were covered in stretch goals or not.
Not a chance. They would take the money, give us almost nothing, break what had been working, and then tell us it is our fault that we expect them to do what they said they were going to.

No they weren't. Lots of "this is what we want to/would like to do" theorycrafting, but nothing like that in the stretch goals

Short answer, NO. i'll spend money with this company when they deliver the product i've already paid for.

I think the promise of communication came from Frontier as part of some sort of damage control, after the release of Odyssey and the reaction. Since then it seem that the communication has been used to buy time. That does not change the fact that we paid a decent amount of money for something that wasn't finished. I don't recall being told, that playing VR in the same resolution as Horizons, I would get roughly 1/3 the Horizons fps. That is with Ultra in Horizons, and Low in Odyssey. I like the sunsets and the new planets, but this is not what was promised. And the list is endless. It simply cannot have come as a surprise to Frontier (management). That makes me upset, and I think other people feel something similar.
Well, for what it's worth. I did not pay a single dime for it, so I have no dog in the disgruntlement race.

And my expectations must be abysmal, since I am still having fun in EDO. Or maybe I should set my expectations high and be miserable?

Decisions. Meditate on this, I will.

Not going anywhere near buying Odyssey until a VR patch is live. No VR no buy for me these days.

Having stuff on a giant flatscreen when walking about doesn't cut the proverbial mustard I'm afraid.

I'll be stuck playing Horizons until Frontier sort out Odyssey VR and just get my jetpack/walking vibe from No Man's Sky in the meantime.

No I wouldn't, they gotta re-earn my trust. Till then? Not one more red cent. I am done with Pre-releases and Live Betas.

No. Not based on what Ive seen during my time engaged in the game.

I normally have no problem forgiving. Meditate on that.

Sorry, couldn't resist :)

There are a LOT more broken cosmetic items if one bothers looking at them.

I'll hold off until tomorrow evening just in case they fixed those on the sly, otherwise I'll get in touch with customer support for a number of refunds.
Oh, I know. Its mostly the metallic wraps for ships that seem the most "off" when it comes to the graphics. If it's metallic, it turned weirdly matte or some other weirdo deal. The Azure paintjob is a great example of it, since pretty much everyone got it last year, having gone from a wonderful pearlescent blue-green to... BLUE that sort of looks green on a few edges.

Maybe the changes tomorrow will fix it, but I doubt it. And that means we'll all be having horrible paintjobs to go with all the other issues while we wait for Oddy to get released to Console so FDev might bless the folks currently "Alpha-Testing" Oddy for them.

Sadly no, I bought the dlc prior to launch as a way to support the product and I learned my leason, never again.

I find funny how the low performance issue with Odyssey its been left for the "future", when Im pretty sure devolpers have to know is imposible to buy a new GPU even if we wanted, not with the insane prices they are now. Before someone comes with this: Im well aware this is not developers fault (current GPU prices), but its been many, many months since GPU prices are all over the place, so perhaps performance should be number one priority, along with the UI design.

Greetings Commanders
So this is an update regarding the fixing of things that were never supposed to be broken in the first place.
So not a single specific piece of information regarding new features? Nothing new to look forward to in the future?
I thought we were supposed to get information or at least some of it, a word or two, regarding the additional gameplay features of Odyssey?
Or was I too naive?

First of all, may i say that the first part of the update was refreshing to read, i think the feature whereby we are given a brief update on what is happening with bugs causing player displeasure is a good feature and one that should be worked on going forward.

As for the future development plans, this was in part honest but very disappointing.

It in essence is an admission from the devs that Odyssey is a coding Cluster xxxx, and is in a lot worse state than they thought. This has also not been helped by a community that is far too clever for its own good, identifying and highlighting many of these issues within the release, thereby forcing the devs into spending lots of effort putting things right, rather than being able to worship at the temple of "Agile" development by moving onto new shiny toys to develop.
I also get the distinct impression that the issues identified are putting the schedule for console launch at risk. This was pencilled in for Autumn, and i do wonder if this will now get pushed back to late November( the very end of Autumn) or maybe even go into the following year.

All of this will affect the bottom line. With a broken pc game haemorrhaging players, and a potential further delay to the console launch, income streams will undoubtedly be affected. With less money coming in, then budgets for future development are at risk. Existing budgets will instead be burned up on attempting to get the game to work. I therefore understand why they can not give a roadmap of the future at this stage. Things are truly in turmoil at present, and unless Frontier can get on top of things in the next few months, then the siren calls of the doom mongers may finally come true, with future development on the game ceasing, due to it being uneconomic to work on something that would be deemed too expensive to put right.

I hope Frontier can stop the ship from crashing. I do genuinely believe if they overcome the issues, that the future of the game is very bright. However at present its being sucked into Sagittarius A .

Well, we're not going to get any engagement by the 'better communication' team on this thread, but at least we get to watch them ignoring chat and pretending to be players of the game tomorrow. Can't wait
