First of all, may i say that the first part of the update was refreshing to read, i think the feature whereby we are given a brief update on what is happening with bugs causing player displeasure is a good feature and one that should be worked on going forward.
As for the future development plans, this was in part honest but very disappointing.
It in essence is an admission from the devs that Odyssey is a coding Cluster xxxx, and is in a lot worse state than they thought. This has also not been helped by a community that is far too clever for its own good, identifying and highlighting many of these issues within the release, thereby forcing the devs into spending lots of effort putting things right, rather than being able to worship at the temple of "Agile" development by moving onto new shiny toys to develop.
I also get the distinct impression that the issues identified are putting the schedule for console launch at risk. This was pencilled in for Autumn, and i do wonder if this will now get pushed back to late November( the very end of Autumn) or maybe even go into the following year.
All of this will affect the bottom line. With a broken pc game haemorrhaging players, and a potential further delay to the console launch, income streams will undoubtedly be affected. With less money coming in, then budgets for future development are at risk. Existing budgets will instead be burned up on attempting to get the game to work. I therefore understand why they can not give a roadmap of the future at this stage. Things are truly in turmoil at present, and unless Frontier can get on top of things in the next few months, then the siren calls of the doom mongers may finally come true, with future development on the game ceasing, due to it being uneconomic to work on something that would be deemed too expensive to put right.
I hope Frontier can stop the ship from crashing. I do genuinely believe if they overcome the issues, that the future of the game is very bright. However at present its being sucked into Sagittarius A .
