Development Update 3 - August

If you’re going to force extra seats on us please allow our NPC crew to sit in them.
..

^^ This very much! ^^
And if I have two NPC crew, I want to be able to deploy BOTH of them simultaneously in SLFs.
In fact, if I have three NPC crew members, I want all THREE of them in their very own SLFs.
Yes, I want 3 SLFs buzzing around me everywhere causing all sorts of chaos, mayhem and destruction!
Now that's fun!

Technically everything has a gravitational pull, no matter how miniscule. It's just the difference between the pull of a human and a planet is so many orders of magnitude huge, a human seems like they don't have any pull in comparison.
And yet many humans pursue pulling obsessively.

I'd guess it won't happen - they mention 'positioning' the megaships, not having them wander.

It could be tricky to have a social space on a moving from system to system. You change network instances when you jump to another system; so how would you maintain the social space networking (i.e. seeing players move about) while switching network instances?
Like everyone goes to elevators before jump? ;)

Shuttle redirection is not a solution to this issue. Enabling us to walk around cockpit, not to mention ship interiors would be more along the lines.
It would be already good step forward if we can read galnet/codex without interruption on every jump. And adding more information (wiki) to the codex/pilot handbook would be nice.

you can deploy both simultaneously just have to play horizons

I kind of doubt it but I will also voice my desire to have this, it would add a whole new level of immersion to having a carrier to be able to jump around the galaxy from the bridge.

My guess is they would never want carriers to be full blown stations, but it would be so sweet to be able to buy carrier services like Apex shuttles, Pioneer stores.

Great update though, things are moving in a positive direction I think.
Yes, but they're moving in a positive direction to where they should have been in May.

This is a bad assumption to make - that agricultural, industrial and asteroid stations will be dirty and untidy because not wealthy and not hi-tech.
The look of a station should not be related to the type of station, but to the state of the system the station is in.

Even a hard scrabble station in a processing system just getting started might be spotless, indicating good discipline, leadership, and pride.

If you've ever been to a leading hi-tech ag or industrial facility they are spotless, but one that's very old or not doing so well may be run down.
Even some old ones can be spotless, with just worn but well maintained machinery. Big difference in feel!

That is far more accurate than just dumping garbage on agricultural, industrial and asteroid stations because they do processing type work.

Rendering a bit of garbage on the floor to make it seem "untidy" also actually looks like a cheap effect that doesn't really work, especially when the general texturing still looks brand new. If a place is is untidy, it's generally run down all over (ie: word texturing/machinery etc) and the place looks well-used, not brand spanking new with a few papers, drink cans, and coffee cups on the floor.
Yup. Just a palette swap with a plant or box here or there is cheap. Just let the artists really design a rundown station. :/

I managed to unlock Terra this week. I did have a couple of mission failures along the way, and I'm wondering whether it's 6 net completed missions. In other words, 5 fails plus 10 successes only equals 5 completed. I've also seen posts where it says you need six of either/or, and that thefts somehow weren't counting.

All I know is that I did 2 covert heists and 1 covert theft in a row at the end, taking an apex from one to the next, and when I handed those in I unlocked the engineer at last. I'm not sure how to find out the number of successes or fails since Odyssey launched.

After a lot of failures and notoriety cooling off, I found two basically the same base layout heist missions. To achieve a Terra invite.

edit: just to add this was after a total of 8 successful cv theft and it trigged on the 6 cv heist success.
many failures though and many hours getting the rep back to be offered the next cv heist mission.
I went through some of my journals and found i had completed 8 covert heist missions, some of them expired going by Inara, even though i had completed them in game, so, it is bugged and needs fixing regardless. I dont know how many i have done in total though as i couldnt be bothered sitting there scrolling through 2 weeks(roughly), worth of journals.
I even done a couple extra, but still no invite. I submitted a ticket, see if they can help me get past this annoyance. Needs to be fixed though

I never realised that farmers are dirty people

Making the visual state (not design) dependent on the industry rather than the BGS state is yet another strange design decision that makes me wonder whether Frontier still resides in the Milky Way.

It is odd considering the amount of detail they put into other things. The lack of variety in bases and concourses stands out, although there are some nice details the more you look this still needs work.

Megaship Social Spaces

Last but not least, we’re excited to share that work is now underway to bring social spaces to Megaships.
The Commanders' Fleet Carriers are included in this "Megaships"? Will the FCs have on foot social spaces?

Thanks for the update. Fly safe!!!!

Being a console player, it's like looking into a sweet shop and having no money to buy anything.
Any news on when we may see Odyssey present itself on our screens?
