Disappearing Landing Pads Are A Real Problem!

I been having less if an issue with it here of late since I used nvideas new drivers and optimization set the game to fullscreen. (Used borderless before) is noticeable better now with the fences only rarely blinking out. Unsure if it's the drivers or fullscreen or my general faster docking :)

HelloS,

i develop Game Software for about 15 years now... And this bug is ... Truely pathetic after such a long beta phase... Sorry to say that

On today's Galactic News Day, we cover the recall of over 50 million micro boards built by Omnicorp that are failing to keep the landing pad guidance systems running. Many pilots have reported excessive fines and damage to their ships because of the loss of guidance to their pads.
"I needs me a clearly demarcated landing pad cause not all us truckers are drivin straight, if ya know what I mean.." stated Jimmy jo bob from Intergalatic shipping.
Galactic News Day is awaiting response from Omnicorp on this situation, stay tuned.

Having bug fixes and such appear as articles would make Galnet quite interesting to read in a practical sense. :)

Oh, did not know that. Thanks for the tip! :)
.
Would bet on this getting a fix soon but I posted this in another thread...maybe it will help
.
I land almost exclusively on the compass, my only other aid is a map of where the pads are front/middle/rear
The compass is 3D if you know how to use it.
.
Lower gear before entering station
Full stop just inside and drop down away from entrance.
Line up the target on the vertical centre line using roll/yaw with the dot in the lower part of the compass
Fly level and forward until the dot is at the base of the vertical line
Stop and thruster down to pad
Make minor adjustments during descent.
*Note: if the dot is solid the target is ahead, hollow and it is behind you
.
It really isn't hard and you can see down...stop and pitch really simple, just don't rush it if the lights are out.
.
Below is a list of pad numbers in relation to the entrance, the list does not reflect the horizontal positions as pads vary in size and I have them in numerical order for quick reference

OK, this is becoming a real issue for me.

This started out as just a hindrance but is now a real problem. I was almost destroyed last night because my landing pad disappeared and my timer ran out while I circled the station looking for my pad to reappear. My new asp was 2 seconds from being destroyed before I was finally forced to exit the station and cancel the landing.

Please fix this!

agreed. had to cancel a landing because of this and then request permission again outside the station. seems to be a new thing as I've not noticed it before yesterday?

My solution is the second you get in, nose dive because the *not very nice word*s in the tower probably gave you a pad down there. If you don't see it fly to the other end and do a 360 and take another look.

The bug re. pads that I've encountered the most is "dead pads" (if it is a bug and simply something I'm still not understanding correctly).

Basically it's when you don't get the change of HUD to landing HUD, so you can't properly land. The workaround is to exit station, cancel docking request, make another docking request, and it seems to work fine after that.

This occurs when you request (and get) docking permission before the pad has fully reset from the last ship.

After a ship's left, the pad drops down, rotates 180 and comes back up, obtaining docking permission before the "reset" is complete means you won't be able to dock.

This is a pain, but you can still land on it. You just need to be accurate to do so without the landing radar and pips.

You have 3 different indicators to reference to find your landing pad. The in your face landing box and number, the Nav Ball and the landing pads flood lights. It's not that hard people, this is brought up nearly every day. Learn to search before posting and let go of mommies hand already.

How edgy...

And you never introduced a new bug to your code after the initial testing phase? Impressive...

Suggestion- Inside the rotating stations YOUR landing pad should be colour coded pulsating green visible only to you so it stands out easier

The landing indicators aren't on your HUD they are in the station, so there are lots of yous floating around which makes this a non-starter.

+1 This!

So I am new to Elite Dangerous, I did not play during Beta and I have zero trouble finding my landing pad 100% of the time even if the number disappears or when the docking graphic does not show, Docking the ship is a trivial task and for one I feel it should be a little harder.

it does not change the fact that it is a bug and that should be corrected as soon as possible.

Making it harder is just going to make it more annoying. You have to dock in this game. A lot. As soon as you get the hang of it it's going to get very old, very fast.

This is why it should be harder as you have to do it a lot, so why not make it a bit of a challenge rather than the total cake walk it is now, surely making it harder would give a little more satisfaction once you safely navigate the letterbox and sit your boat down.

This is a reason I use a docking computer now.

Because sooner or later that challenge is going to vanish because you'll learn how to do it. Then it just becomes a pain in the ass.
