Disappointed

Im a backer of E:D from KS - and I understand the game didn't make the kind of money SC did - but I am a little disappointed with the lack of updates and invovlment of dev with the community.

Not sure if its a Frontier thing - but if a neophyte like Josh Parnell who is making Limit Theory can be so deeply be in synch with the community with virtually daily updates working solo on 1/10th of the budget of this game and monthly hands on realy time game updates- I'd expected E:D to give us more than a rare "talk" video by Braben with no actuals once in a while!

If the guy is working solo on his game (and fair play to him) all that time he spends interacting with the fans is time that development is standing still. The fact that Frontier has dozens of staff that need paid and managed not to mention likely other projects they are involved with means commitments beyond the scope of Elite: Dangerous, so I’m sure they are spread pretty thin on the ground.

As others have said its early days yet, but one thing to bear in mind is that some the Dev's including Mr Braben himself are also involved in vetting and approval of the fiction synopses (15 for the anthology alone) to make sure they don’t contradict anything in the elite universe. So with all that and building the game going on I'm quite happy with the updates, and thier frequency so far.

I think it's unrealistic to expect FD to be informing/consulting us all the time. We do not own them and they don't owe us anything except a game. We backed the idea for the next Elite. From the info released so far it's already exceeding expectations. As has been said, let them get on with it.
As for the forum being sad - comments like this make me sad. We are just talking and trying to get to know each other for the game. Maybe I'm simple but I enjoy it; both reading what people are thinking and sometimes writing. It makes me feel connected and part of the Elite and this, with the updates, is enough for me.:)

Its never too early to let your feelings be known, and it gives ED a good chance to throw the odd bone to the general forums..

I think there is a wealth of entertainment and information here and lots of places to let your ideas be known EVEN if you cant get access to some of the other forums..

The Fan created forum is AMAZING... and Im forever drinking at the Thargoid and Fer-der-Lance, and having my meals at Mcthargoids..

I enjoy the people here as much as the information and dev reveals...

Come in and join us....

this is a good point - thanks for pointing this out

Just because SC is spending a fortune on media hype and cut scenes as they did earlier games from CR (no disrespect intended) it doesn't mean it will be a better game to play in the long run. SC has over 8mil dollars to pay people to produce the glitz. I for one would rather see FDs time and money spent on game development.

As a backer of both games (okay, so around 10x more went to Elite) I agree with this. With the stuff that's come out of Star Citizen, it's been probably a bit less amazing than I'd have expected. The stuff that's come out of Elite has been more amazing than I'd have expected. RSI do produce info-fluff on a much larger scale than Frontier do, but the amount of decent info isn't so very different

As I understand it (and I may well be wrong) the other two games were already well advanced before they even went to Kickstarter, and so they had a whole lot more artwork and in-game footage to show from the get-go.

FD had nothing except ideas and a bunch of back-end code (e.g. netcode and similar) until they got the funding.

I expect that once they've had a couple of months to get things going we'll start seeing some of the lovely in-game goodness too.

A week, I've been here a week. There is lots of information and progress here if you want it, And to be honest at this stage I'd rather them work on the game than keep telling me..... not too much

Seriously....What were you expecting ?

Perhaps a "What we did today diary" or " Heres the game so far".....posted every day.....Aint gonna happen...Nor do i want cheap stunts like that....

I want to see whats really being worked on and information on a reasonable basis like the updates we get now are fine.
Even the concept art is really what it "May" look like and its great to see but its not the actual game..

Its only been about 12 weeks since the kickstarter and its unlikely we are going to see anything in game until FD are satisfied its good enough to show and thats what "We" paid for...The job to be done properly !!

Heres how i would expect things to work.....Roughly..

Updates like we have been getting....all ok there :)
Dev Diaries...FD Discression...so far so good...Need a bit of faith there :)

In game footage...At least half way through the build...Anything before is a bonus :)

Ingame screenshots...ASAP without a gun to FD's head though :D

The game....March...Any probs im sure we will be advised..

Other than that i assume its ass's at the monitors building the game!!
Lots of tea breaks ...keep the staff happy...better results with happy staff :)

So far from my eyes......All going great !!

And there are probably even many who waited almost 10 - 15 - 20 years and died and never see anything

I'm one of those, [not the dead part of course.] :D My feeling is DB and his team can take all the time they want, the mere fact it's finally being produced is good enough for me. I think some of the younger folks here really need to get off the "I want it now, I want all the information, were is it? bandwagon." There's plenty of data out here, meanwhile just listen to Lave radio podcasts, chill and let the dev team get on with it. :)

Amen brother, amen. I'm enjoying the chilling with my fellow Elite fans in the meantime.

Ahhh agreed.... young pups should have more respect for their olders, and betters! :D

Totally agree mate, no more periodic goggling 'Elite 4' and reading cryptic statements from DB & FD. Hoping for a breakthrough or something definitive for the last decade!...Until recently.

We all kept the faith!...How long again until release?....:D

Patience, is a virtue. However I must admit I did enjoy all the responses to the original statement...

Honestly, I heard something back in December but IGNORED IT.... I'd heard so many rumors over the years I thought 'I'll check back later'.... shame on me. SHAME.

In our day us oldies only had computer mags to see whats going on ...once a month

We would happly and eagerly await a game for 2 years based on a couple of shots.( Last Ninja rings a bell )...Nowadays you can be on the forum 24/7 asking questions...and get answers at a reasonable rate..

They dunno thier born these days....Slap em....I say Slap em :D

Elite: Dangerous website

I'm quite happy with the information that is coming out. The only thing Frontier need to fix urgently at this stage is the Elite: Dangerous web site. It leaves something to be desired.
But, as seems to be the consensus here, getting on with making the game is more important

I find it a shame that the internet has virtually killed my appreciation of gaming mags

That is so true.....The buzz of buying the mags to see new games and screenshots was an addiction....i still get the urge to look...but pointless buying because iv seen it all on the net :(

Absolutely, the fun of peeling the disk off the front of the magazine and seeing all the different demos of games and software was fantastic fun.

Miss that quite a bit. *goes all nostalgic* :D
