Just fought my first combat against the new AI being interdicted by an ELITE FDL (I'm in a Corvette) - most fun AI fight I've had since my early days in the game, I won but it felt like a real fight rather than a turkey shoot, fad to use FA off for most of it. Brilliant stuff from FD.

Your "Git Gud" is a bit strong when people are mainly (I think) saying that the AI is more challenging but that the engineered mods on them are too prevalent and that the scaling of rankings is "not quite there yet".

SJA needs to be reined-in a bit I think, there has been too much heroine-worship I fear. ;)

People are just situationally conditioned to potato AI. SJA absolutely doesn't need to be reigned in. Improvements are welcome, but the starch has been reduced in AI and we all get to refactor our encounters.

........ because ultimately this is supposed to be a game.............

Unfortunately I feel that someone (looking at you MoM) has decided it isn't a game it's a contest.

I have too much money invested in this game to jump ship but if NMS were not delayed I think I might be considering it.

From the perspective of only having been here a few weeks, I'm not happy at all...a simple RES has turned into a suicide mission for me and being interdicted means almost certain death or escape by the skin of my teeth. If this game is to force me to stay away from combat then I'll just go find something else to play. Shame...the addiction bug was just starting to bite...learning curve went from steep to brutal overnight (

I agree. This has ruined the game utterly. I've been playing about two weeks.

From what I'm seeing, anyone who has it made with expensive ships likes it, and any of us who don't are screwed. And I love the attitude of some of them. "Since I'm OK, ^#$% anyone who's having trouble."

It seems pretty obvious to me that the only people who are going to play on your beta servers are ones who are long time players, and pros at the game. If you got all your feedback about difficulty from only the beta servers, no wonder it's so incredibly jacked for casual and new players. Did they really think that the beta server would give a good approximation? Why would I or any other new player play on beta when we're just trying to come to grips with the vanilla game? This was not well thought out.

I managed to take down and Elite Anaconda in a RES site last night after about 15 minutes of cat and mouse. It was a great battle and I was on edge for the whole thing. However, when I finally killed it and earned 76000Cr, and my repair bill from the encounter was only slightly less than that, I was left wondering about the point of doing it in the first place. Oh well, if it is the shape of things to be, then I am fine with it, but I really feel sorry for anybody who doesn't have a multi billion credit bank balance or a new player, its going to be carnage! :D

This is broken.
Just went to a HiRes - well shielded FAS, hull reinforced, mirror reflective etc.
Engaged NPC python.
It jumped instantly from one place to another 3 times, my shield went offline and my hull was down to 36% in around 5 seconds..

Guessing yer not newcomer friendly then...game is almost unplayable now so looks like you hardcore elitist players get what ye want and to hell with everyone else. Not cool m8, not cool (

I didn't get to enjoy the early rares boom. Am I having a spleen vent over that? No. The game is going to change over time. For some that's just a bridge too far, regardless of reason.

I'm not convinced that this is a deal breaker for newbies. It just resets expectations; had I started today, this would now be the norm and I'd simply learn to be a better combat pilot jusy as I did before. The only difference now? It's teaching better better combat skills.

We learn based on what we are exposed to. If it's naturally a slightly higher challenge, then that drives naturally better development.

Ironically people who learn on the new AI are on a much better footing for defending against other commanders. They may be in a better position to kick both our behinds. Something to ponder.

Too easy.

While an Elite Anaconda can be beaten in a Sidewinder I will always consider it too easy.

Just from reading the forums (may own few hours play under 2.1 last night wasn't enough to be instructive) but is the biggest danger that there isn't a gentle enough difficulty slope for newer players...than that risk/rewards are out of kilter...
From a Game Universe/Immersion point of view there is no particular reason that Bounties should scale directly with difficulty all the time...and I've no issue if FD wants to move us from Farming in Res Zones and at CNBs towards Mission based activities...
(I've been guilty of doing it myself in the past...but lets be honest its a little "grindy" isn't it)
I've alot of sympathy if new commanders/commanders with low combat rank are getting bounced and bullied by overpowered NPCs - thats just making the game unfriendly for newcomers...and a sure way to kill off the future of the game...
BUT i've no understanding of the "OMG! It took me 20 minutes to kill a FAS last night and I only got 80K bounty...I could earn triple that trading" if you're doing combat...isn't it because you ENJOY the combat...and the 20 minute dogfight is the reward rather than the credits...

WHAT?

I fly my C-Rated Corvette against deadly Clippers in no more than 3-4 minutes... I cannot A-rate it at the moment, as I don't have enough cash. But what you are saying is ridiculous, better improve your flying skills then, eh?

Bloody hell.

It's physically impossible to outmaneuver a smaller ship with more thrust speed in a Covette. Once they are in your blind spot, you are limited in what you can do. It's not a case of "git gud" it's a case of limitations. I can handle Anacondas and Pythons with ease, but anything smaller such a clipper or vulture or FAS can just sit in my blind spot all day and unload their payload safely. I fly FA-OFF, I fly in reverse and the seconds of calm it gives me to line up my reticles is more than enough for all of those ships to close the distance once again and sit in my blind spot. Thankfully I have some turreted weaponry that was able to whittle him down over the course of 15 minutes.
