It seems somebody at Frontier is making a big mistake, just to appease those who really wanted an early access advantage.

Not really, seems they have said this since day one - the only reason for a wipe after gamma was going to be if it was needed, it isn't so there isn't one.

Means that the players that have been going since BETA will be spread out and not hanging around the starter area's, plus the galaxy isn't just full of players in Sidewinders, which was dull enough in PB and get's worse with every not set of players added.

If it bothers you that much then reset your save.

exploit?

is it really an exploit if its in the market ?

just think of it as Tescos marking their 50 inch telly's at 6.99 not 699.00!!

:)

I'm now quite afraid that Frontier are shooting themselves in the foot here.

You can make millions / hour by exploiting the strangely abundant rare commodities to the hilt. If you upgrade to a Type 9, you can make more than 10 million / hour.

Remember those Elite Federation rankings? The logic of how the inner circle of literal Elites start to get interested when you reach Dangerous, or the equivalent in the other paths. How long do you think it will take for the traders to reach that, if it's in any way tied to the actual income the traders make (and if it isn't.... that's pretty odd too).

If they balance it around the insane flood of money available right now, the _only_ way to make Elite as a trader will be to grind billions doing that for hundreds of hours. If they balance it around more modest profits, and long term game play, then all of those grinding to the hilt right now will reach Elite rank soon after launch, just by carrying a small subset of trade goods around.

So with the news of no wipe, I have a question regarding the Galaxy.

Will all the systems now be set in stone?

As an explorer I'm just interested in the systems and their content (Body's), could you confirm if the galaxy will remain as it is apart from 'events' that FD can create?

Just wondered

Thanks

The problem is that there are a LOT of people that still don't get that this game is not some linear progression. They believe that if someone has more credits than they do, that it is somehow unfair to them. Many have fears of the boogey man sneaking up on them in a python and doing unspeakable things to their ships time and time again. I chuckle at their ignorance.

And you imagine your attitude enlightened, I would suggest picking up a mirror before calling anyone else ignorant. Players have every right to expect a game that involves competition with others to be as balanced as possible. Further for others to suggest there is no competition in Elite is just asinine, just what do you think pvp is about, credits and their availability facilitate that pvp.

It ain't the kind of competition you think it is amigo.

You'll see that eventually... or you will be one of the ones crying on the forum about the game being "too hard, FD plz nerf". Getting to "Elite" status will be an accomplishment, not a competition.

Good luck with the campaign.

They still think they are playing the 1984 version of Elite. They don't realize some people play in open and like competition.

I agree OP.

It seems daft we are allowed to play on in a game thats still being balanced, just because some people consider what they have done so far in game a job and they should be paid for the work they put in.

My comments have nothing to do with elite status, were you not so narrow minded you might appreciate that pvp is indeed competition, and will be a focus for a great many, even if you have no interest in it.

Advantage, disadvantage, what difference does it make? There's no race or prize to be won. Who cares if another commander has more credits?

What, exactly all are the whiners worried about?

OMG so much this. ^^^^ But unfortunately some people see it as some kind of vital competition to be won (as if it had real-world consequences). I blame the introduction of "cheevos."

What I've come to realize... wipe or no wipe, it makes no difference.

First of all, this isn't a competitive game. Just because Player X and more money than Player Y - Player Y's experience won't differ.
The chance of Player Y crossing Player X's path in a 400 billion star system game, it's extremely low.

Second of all, even if there was a wipe. There are players starting with just a sidewinder. Then there are people with Sidewinders and Eagles. Then there are some with Sidewinders and Cobras.
So where is the balance there?

Third... What of the new players joining the game say 6 months down the line? When people have already amassed credits. You want FDEV to wipe the game for when every person joins the game? It makes no sense.

And finally... who cares? I don't have that many credits. I worked my way up to a cobra by mining, and sitting comfortably. I enjoy the ride. It's not a race.
There are players who are trading rare commodoties for millions at a time. Does that affect me? Not in the slightest.

I am enjoying my experience in the game. Just because someone might have a bigger ship than me at launch, it doesn't phase me in the slightest.

I think the competitive nature of gamers these days are clouding their vision for games. Just because it's online with other players, it doesn't have to mean it's competitive.

Someone with 10 billion credits in a Lakon Type-9. They aren't going to do anything to me, while I'm in a Cobra, battling my way with only a million credits.

Oh I PVP just fine and arrive here with thousands of verifiable kills to my name and a semi respectable K/D ratio(visit the stat board at War Thunder under the same name if you like http://warthunder.com/en/community/userinfo/?nick=Cat_Astrophe). You shouldn't ass/u/me too much about others.:D

This just probably won't be the PVP centric sort of thing you think it will. You see the gripes about some of the high cred bounty missions? Smells like a boss fight to me. Some things will be better in co-op groups. That said, there's nothing stopping you from putting on PVP where ever you like, but it is a big galaxy and people will be able to avoid you with the greatest of ease. Bet anything you will find yourself logging to avoid death before it is over. lol

The only way for pvp to be balanced in Elite is if you specifically meet up with someone and decide on rules such as "must have stock sidewinder"

Since if you have a far superior ship or even the same ship with superior upgrades then its not "fair"..Thing is the game is just not a competitive one and although you may want it to be balanced by design it simply isn't.

Now I know there won't be a wipe I am going to exploit the 0.30ls trade route I have to the hilt. Was going to take things easy till the 16th but not anymore.

I believe the intention is that systems will evolve based on our actions. For example, if an explorer hits a major resource find in an unpopulated system, others might gradually arrive and set up outposts/stations there. Of course to do so they'll need shipments of materials, etc., so trade routes will evolve.

Whether the mechanics for all of this is ready to go live on the 16th or not we'll probably never know; expect it when you see it is my guess.

Maybe they should include a game mode where you are limited to 1 hour play per week. That should be fairly balanced.

If you can only play 1 hour per week and I can play 70 (I can't btw) then it won't be long before we are back in the same position...1 hour more and I potentially have double what you would..

I made it to an ASP without mining, without rare commodities, just time and playing my way (some may say grind but it was playing). You can make millions per hour selling Gold and Superconductors too. Oh and during which I saw nobody, not a single commander.

The game needs diversity, not 100,000 sidewinders taking off from AIABiko queuing to dock at HUI Mines.
This occurs naturally (due to above) so unless strict limitations are in place, talk of balance is meaningless.

Some system's contents will have changed.

They certainly won't be rerunning the stellar forge, so planet compositions and positions are indeed set in stone now. Stations and the "edge of civilization" will surely continue to expand.

Caveat: if there is a system that is broken, I should think they will fix it in a one-off manor. I *think* they've already said they will update systems if real astronomers determine some new fact about them.

Wow, ninja'd and nullified by a dev. Very interesting news, and totally not what I expected! What if someone is IN one of those changing systems?

Not sure I am getting this "if this doesn't get wipe it is unbalanced and ergo people getting rankings unfairly". I mean, game, market, background sim itself will get small tweaks there and there long after first release. Do we consider all those previous cheats and unworthy? Of course not.

As for rare goods - it was station based at first, but as people just patroled in stations and waited for them to appear, denying goods for everybody else, I guess they decided to do x items per user route. Turned out they gave way too much first, and people got some advantage of it. Still, only FD knows how widespread that issue was...they might looked at numbers and sew only few hundred or one thousand doing it - out of 140k people - so it wasn't worth to wipe just because of that.
