By anomaly do you mean it may have been a set up??
Or staged is probably a better way of putting it.
Why are their efforts pathetic to you, and that of the explorers so inherently honorable?
Don't you realize that's just as subjective?
No, it's not just subjective.
The ganker crowd has so far completely failed to engage larger groups of Elite players beyond simply shooting them.
Which is why PvP will always be a sideshow to real player driven events. If you want to get out of this conundrum, you'll have to step up and get creative.
I confirm that number is real, as I have an update for distant ganks 2 too:
I have delivered a full laden conda to omega operations under null's baby gang's noses without a scratch in open.
I guess these forces aren't so overwhelming that you can call null the overlord of the galaxy. Of his courtyard maybe?
weak weak backstory guys.
I don't think the devs are taking this event all too seriously, otherwise it certainly would have appeared in GalNet news - especially were it's such an outstanding example of <cough> roleplaying! Though, when you think about it, they probably should take it seriously as this whole mess is pretty much by design and mainly their responsibility. A decent game design would never allow such 'gameplay'...
To be fair, even if Distant Ganks had been for example a different exploration trip running counter to DW, its promotion by FDev would depend on if its creators/admin team were in the FDev clique or not.
And why do you think Frontier supports Distant Worlds?
FDev is in the business of selling video games. DW2 brings in players, PvP doesn't. It's as simple as that.
And with their actions during the past week, the ganker crowd has made perfectly sure that none of this will change any time soon.
The thing I find slightly bemusing about this is FD's response (or lack of...)
Surely the massacre at Pallaeni would have been worthy of "some" response from the vaunted C+P fleets of justice?
And wouldn't the Empire/Federal fleets be looking to mete out justice to these naughty gankers ??
Its not like the PVP crowd have made a secret of their intentions... where is the Military ? where is FD's SUPER Security ??
The AI may not be very good, but if every Griefer was constantly interdicted by waves of security/military it might just bore them into submission....
At the very least we should build a wall !!
They counter per, "Doesn't the DW2 have security to protect their ships?". How are they are going to protect the fleet travelling halfway across the galaxy with the needed modules while some player can fly ahead in a high jump range ship then then transfer their awesome bubble meta combat ship before the fleet gets there? I know your tactics as much as you do.
What is the furthest (from the Bubble) a Grief/Gank incident has occurred so far ??
I seem to recall a Commander being ambushed at Sag A once in open...
Not the one by the player who proclaimed themselves the Ruler of Sag A, the event I am thinking of was earlier ?
Could be under threat on this trip.
Unless, of course someone has already managed it at Beagle or Ishums ?

afaik the first Sag A* griefer incidents (which horrified the exploration community at the same as such a thing was hitherto unthinkable) occured some time early in May 2015. I remember this because I made my Sag A Buckyball Run on May 28th and the presence of the griefer was of some concern as official runs had to be performed in Open. I remember Cmdr Anuranium had flown out to Sag A to deal with the "problem" and, along with another Cmdr who's name I sadly forget, had stayed there to protect the area and greeted me when I arrived. I seem to recall the self-proclaimed "queen of Sagittarius A*" appeared in the area a few months later and "reigned" for maybe another month or so. There's almost certainly a forum thread or two about all this somewhere - I'll see if I can dig them out 'cos it's interesting stuff.
I guess it's fun to ruin other people's gameplay
