[Distant Worlds] "Beagle Point Week"

It'll be "Whack a Rat", methinks... :)
They have to "find" and then "shoot" us over 30 Km and 40 minutes???
-<invoking "NinjaRat" powers>
- Should be an easy win for the Rats! :D
---------------
edit: Eisen... may be right (see below). It'll be The Rats vs The Bug! ;)

Nah, I'm not so sure, Michael. Lyneira and me tried out being a rat just an hour ago. It ended with me exploding midway to the mountain due to the insta-explode-bug, admittedly I was at 50 % hull at that time and should have repaired. The terrain is very rugged and partially dark. Judging from this experience more rats may die because to the terrain / the BUG than being shot.:D

SRV Hide and Seek.
basically I go and hide on BP up to 5 mins to find a hiding place.
I wait to be found.
After three months I realise nobody cares and nobody is going to find me and I sulk off back to my ship that has long since sunk into the ground causing me to rage quit.

I just realised: we (the Frawd Squad) landed on Sanctuary Hill when Frawd made it to Beagle Point yesterday :D that's where all the photos were taken.

Just made it to BP but only with help of others.:)

I have received a subspace communication (routed via three pulsars and encrypted using an unusual set of cyphers) purporting to be from CMDR Salomé. She reports that she intends to lead a convoy of the minor faction the "Children of Raxxla" to the Beagle point Rendezvous, hoping to arrive on the 7th of April 3302, prior to 8pm (UTC+1, Old earth time reckoning as based on Earth, Sol System) after a secret rendezvous with the Children of Raxxla themselves.

Children of Raxxla minor faction members are advised to review instructions via their own secret communication routes.

She signs off with "Precise timings will be confirmed in the next few days, but remember, I don't like to be late, Commanders."

Cheers,

Drew.

Thank you very much, Drew! This is certainly very intriguing and mysterious. I'll definitely be there and take part!

Yeah, I thought it'd be a tough one to pull off. If you're available over the weekend - Saturday evening 21:00 gametime, I'll be at the basecamp, so we could give it a test run and iron out some of the issues, or revert to plan B, a slightly different game.

This goes out to everyone whose available too. :)

Whack-a-Rat test run; Saturday 21:00 Gametime, meet at Darwin's Legacy.

Saturday 9th April: Missing Man Formation

Date & Time :

  • Saturday 9th April; 22:00 Gametime (during the "Campfire" event)

Event Location :

  • Darwin's Legacy Basecamp (Coords : 48.56 / -35.57).

Description :

  • This event is dedicated to all the Commanders who were lost during the Distant Worlds expedition.
  • A four-ship formation will do a Missing Man Formation flypast over the Darwin's Legacy Basecamp.
  • Directly before the flypast, there will be a commemorative adress (text courtesy of CMDR Freebird) in one or more Fleetcom channels.
  • For safety reasons, the airless space above the Basecamp will be restricted during the flypast for 5 minutes.
What Can I Do?

  • The event needs additional pilots (2-3), a ground coordinator, and someone to capture it on celluloid.
  • The second element leader ("missing man") will be drawn by lot.
I'm in!

  • Great! Please contact CMDR Kuroshio (DoubtOutLoud) for further information.

If everything goes according to plan I'll be there. We're returning home from vacation tomorrow and I may be a bit beaten up after flying for 18 hours but I'll try.

Sadly I won't be able to make it tonight as I can't get online until tomorrow now.. but if others still want to meet at the basecamp tonight and give it a trial run, please do!

So how does one actually join in events like these? I did some instance hopping last night around 10pm (GMT+1) to see if I could find a test run of whack-a-rat, but had no such luck. Fortunately, I eventually got into a bit of SRV racing which was fun, albeit joining little late. I'm leaning towards being a spotter myself, depends on whether I can find out if SRVs still reappear if they get destroyed by weapons fire and they're your only one.
