SCHEDULED LANDING/MEETING DATES & TIMES DURING BEAGLE POINT WEEK :-

  • Saturday 2nd April @ 18:00 Gametime for both Euro & USA players
  • Sunday 3rd April @ 18:00 Gametime for both Euro & USA players - Primary Landing Event with Community Livestreams *Key Event* Link : https://www.twitch.tv/blackneto
  • Monday 4th April to Friday 8th April @ 19:00 Gametime for Euro players / 7 hours later for USA players
  • Saturday 9th April @ 18:00 Gametime for both Euro & USA players
Along with the scheduled landing dates listed above, each day during 'Beagle Point Week' has an event planned.. details as follows :

Sunday 3rd April : Whack-a-Rat (Round 1)

Date & Time :

  • Sunday 3rd April; Whack-a-Rat Round 1 (from 20:00 Gametime, 7 hours later for USA group)
  • Monday 4th April; Whack-a-Rat Round 2 (from 20:00 Gametime, 7 hours later for USA group)

Event Location :

  • Starts; Darwin's Legacy Basecamp (Coords : 48.56 / -35.57).
  • Ends; Sanctuary Hill - Bearing 100 from Darwin's Legacy, distance 30 kms.

Description :

  • A pack of rogue SRV rats have gone wild due to space madness.
  • They are fleeing to Sanctuary Hill.
  • Sanctuary Hill is located 30 kilometers from Darwin's Legacy, along bearing 100. It is bathed in perpetual sunlight.
  • The terrain between the basecamp and the hill is a mixture of pock-marked craters, relatively flat plains, small hills, and a few shallow ravines.
  • Due to the location (right on the day/night terminator of the planet), some patches of the "rat-run badlands" are lit by sunlight, whereas others are in shadows, and still others pitch black.

Rat Task :

  • The rats are tasked to flee Darwin's Legacy's and try to reach the "Sanctuary Line". This line is where the sunlight hits Sanctuary Hill and will mark the boundary of escape and safety for the rats. Cross the line into a blaze of sunlight before the timer expires, and they've made it out of the rat run alive.
  • Rats are free to flee across a wide area of terrain, 50 kms wide. However, the wider path they take from the 100-Bearing Line, the longer it will take to reach Sanctuary Hill. If the timer expires while they're still in the badlands they're eliminated.
  • In a straight line, it should take around 30 minutes to cross the rat run badlands. The timer expires after 40 minutes.

That's Easy! What's the catch? :

  • See below :)

Pest Control :

  • The rats are given a 10 minute head start to disperse into the darkness, after which "Pest Control" will be called in. Armed ships and Spotters will depart Darwin's Legacy, their task is to seek, locate, and destroy any rats they detect in the badlands between Darwin's Legacy and Sanctuary Hill.

Game Time :

  • The event will last 40 minutes, after which any rats not accounted for at Sanctuary Hill will be deemed eliminated (whether they evaded detection or not).

The Goals :

  • The goals are simple. Rats need to escape to Sanctuary Hill. They have 40 minutes to do so.
  • Pest Control need to whack as many rats as possible, or at least slow them down enough that their timer expires.

Point Scoring :

  • Lets keep it simple; if 50% or more of the rat pack escape to Sanctuary Hill before the timer expires, the rats win. Otherwise Pest Control are victorious.

The Rules :

Rat rules -
  • The rats are given a 10 minute head start.
  • During the first 9 minutes all rats must run with headlights on (dipped or full beam).
  • After the 9th minute rats can 'go dark' if they chose, and try to cross the rat-run without headlights.
  • If they choose to run dark, they run the risk of falling victim to the hidden dangers of the rat-run terrain.
  • If they choose to use headlights they run the risk of being easily spotted from the air.
  • From the 9th minute onward rats can use their own discretion and use a mixture of lights on or off during the crossing.

Spotter rules -
  • This role is for players who are flying unarmed ships and want to take part.
  • A spotters role is to seek out fleeing rats and call out targets (this role is also idea for film makers and livestreamers).
  • Spotters must stay below 300m during the 10 minute countdown, and must remain at the basecamp until the signal to go is given. Once the pursuit is on, the 300m limit is lifted.
  • Pest Control are to begin the pursuit 1 minute after the rats have gone 'dark'.. i.e. 10 minutes after the rats' departure.

Pest Control rules -
  • Pest Control are the armed hunters who are tasked to seek, locate, and eliminate the fleeing rats.
  • Pest Control can be aided by the Spotters. If a spotter calls out a target, lock on to that pilot and head over there to deal with the vermin he's cornered.
  • Pest Control must stay below 300m during the 10 minute countdown, and must remain at the basceamp until the signal to go is given. Once the pursuit is on, the 300m limit is lifted.
  • Pest Control are to begin the pursuit 1 minute after the rats have gone 'dark'.. i.e. 10 minutes after the rats' departure.

The Risks :

  • There is a risk involved for Pest Control. Fly recklessly trying to splat a rat, and it could end in tears if you crash. Only sign up if you accept that risk.
  • Rats have a tough choice - chose to run with headlights on to make the crossing of the gloomy badlands easier, and they''ll be easier to spot from the air! Run with headlights off, then watch out for those hidden ravines and deep craters!

Who Can take Part? :

  • Players who don't mind losing SRV's.
  • Players who have armed vessels.
  • Unarmed players who want to act as Spotters.
  • Players who are willing to officiate (will need several at Sanctuary Hill to verify the rats who make it within the allotted time, and will need at least one at Darwin's Legacy to oversee the 10 minute countdown).

j979u8.jpg

Fallback Event :

  • Whack-a-Rat is an untried game concept so if it proves unworkable for whatever reason, it may revert to a simple cross country rally between SRVs (Darwin's Legacy to the top of Sanctuary Hill) with SRV drivers encouraged to shoot, ram, and try all sorts of underhand shenanigans against competitors. Basically win at all costs.

Sunday 3rd April : Special Beagle Point CQC Matches

Date & Time :

  • Sunday 3rd April; From 16:00 Gametime

Description :

  • Full details of the CQC Matches can be viewed : Here

Monday 4th April: Whack-a-Rat (Round 2)

Round 2 of Whack-a-Rat : A chance for Sunday's rats to play as hunters, and Sundays hunters to play as rats.

Tuesday 5th April : 'Exploring the Moons of Podar' & 'A Pilgrimage to Asterous'

Date & Time :

  • Tuesday 5th April; Anytime.

Description :

  • Exploring the Moons of Podar is an expedition out to the ringed Earth World; Podar, 1,200 LYs from Beagle Point and situated on the edge of the Abyss.
  • Podar
  • Game map search ref. : MYEIA THAA ZE-R D4-0
  • POI Type: Visual & Rare Discovery
  • This system is unique in several respects. Firstly, it contains a ringed Earth-Like World (P.o.d.a.r), secondly this world is blessed with 3 satellite moons, and thirdly its situated on the far edge of the Abyss, making it a
possible oasis of life in an otherwise desolate region. Discovered in mid-3301, it is one of only a few ELWs so far located in the Galactic Outer Rim regions.
  • There are no set times for this event - instead players who are interested can make the trip on their own, or wing-up at Darwin's Legacy with others interested in exploring Podar's Moons.
  • Due to its location close to the Abyss, Jumponium Boosts maybe be required.

  • A Pilgrimage to Asterous is a trip to visit one of the most northerly reachable star systems from Sol.
  • Asterous - The 'Northern' Meridian
  • Game map search ref. : IORADY JO-Z D13-0
  • POI Type: Beacon (Distance Marker and 'Zero' Meridian Line Reference)
  • 65,400 LYs 'north' of Sol, along the 0 meridian, this system acts as a navigational distance marker, 80,400 LYs distance from the southern marker. It is thought to be the most 'northerly' reachable star (along the zero meridian line) from Sol.
  • There are no set times for this event - instead players who are interested can make the trip on their own, or wing-up at Darwin's Legacy with others interested in visiting Asterous.
  • Due to its location out on the very outer rim, only high-range Anaconda's with J3 Jumponium Boosts will be able to make it. Note that there are no planetary bodies at Asterous.

Wednesday 6th April : SRV Destruction Derby

Date & Time :

  • Wednesday 6th April; From 20:00 Gametime, 7 hours later for USA group

Event Location :

  • Planet 3 (Beagle Point Star System); -66.06 / 122.06 (see landing guide below)

Description :

  • A free-for-all fight to the death - last man standing wins.
  • Competitors meet at a designated location.
  • All the SRVs enter the arena.
  • Spectators in SRVs and ships gather around the arena (warning: be aware of SRV weapons fire at this event).
  • When the signal is given, all SRVs are to fight to the death... shooting at and ramming each other until one SRV remains.
  • If an SRV is forcibly pushed off the cliff, or leaves of his own accord, he is eliminated.
  • Above the arena hovers two stationary sniper ships - their job is to "laser the arena". Basically the snipers randomly and continuously reign down laser fire into the arena. If the SRVs below drive through the laser fire they'll obviously take more damage than usual. The snipers are not to pick on specific competitors, but they should concentrate their fire wherever a melee is taking place. (This will make for great video!)
  • Snipers with beam lasers fitted would be idea, but pretty much all other weaponry will do.
  • Competitors are advised to stock up on repair and ammo materials prior to the event.

Match 1 - Arena 2 :

SRVs enter the Uthina Arena and fight in a free-for-all death match.
2 designated snipers from the spectators gallery pepper the Arena with weapons fire.
The last 2 surviving SRVs qualify for the final.

Match 2 - Arena 2 :
Minus the 2 previous qualifiers, SRVs enter the Uthina Arena and fight in a free-for-all death match.
2 different designated snipers from the spectators gallery pepper the Arena with weapons fire.
The last 2 surviving SRVs qualify for the final.

Match 3 - Arena 2 :
Minus the 4 previous qualifiers, SRVs enter the Uthina Arena and fight in a free-for-all death match.
2 different designated snipers from the spectators gallery pepper the Arena with weapons fire.
The last 2 surviving SRVs qualify for the final.

The Final - Arena 1 :
The 6 qualifying SRVs enter Arena 1 (The 'Spit'), and fight to the death. Last SRV standing wins.
No sniper fire will occur during the final (unless its got nil-nil written all over it and then we'll unleash the snipers!).

I'm too slow for the first group and too fast for the FGE group, but I'll look for the wrecks of the SRVs.

All of that sounds so cool and im SO trying to be at least present if not participating on every possible event!
Cant wait next week! :)

Serendipitous

It is very serendipitous to be in the general Beagle Point area with such a well laid out and entertaining looking program, and then on top of all that, a wedding, the proverbial icing on the cake. Erimus :)

I hope no one mixes up the Whack-A-Rat event with the wedding, it would be rather awkward and a terrible mess. Good thing they are somewhat planned apart scheduling wise.

See You All In The Black.

We could make it a double wedding if you like?

Would you like to get married to your beautiful Imperial Cutter while we're out here :D

Oh, I so want to be part of the sunday (UK 8pm) Whack-a-Rat. Either as a rat or an armed pest control operative. I have 4 SRV's in (almost) pristine condition (a few miles on the clock and a leaky off-side shock absorber, but essentially good :p) and a fully armed Anaconda (mainly multi-cannons with a few burst laser turrets as well. Limited ammo, no materials for re-arming, gotta choose your chances well!). If not, I'll happily be a spotter. In short, count me in :)

Truely TordenSkjold and I have a bond, a bond forged in the depths of space, by countless number of jumps into the melting hot corona's of stars, red, white, and blue, staring into the abyss of the wonders of the galaxy, black holes. We have gone to the other end of the galaxy together in the capital company of fellow Explorers who also ventured into the Void and nay, this is not the end of our journey, this is only the beginning, for we are on a quest, a quest to find Raxxla.

tl;dr: I agree, the Black Imperial Cutter is a beautiful ship :)

Don't really want to nitpick, but that's the most northerly reachable system on the meridian, not the most northerly reachable system! Asterous is at ~65,424 north and by my reckoning there are some 100 or so reachable systems further north than that.

The most northerly reachable system is OEVAXY IG-Y D0 at ~65,620 north (and at 65,627.06 is also the furthest reachable system from Sol). To reach this system you need a ship capable of at least a 75.72 LY jump.

Other systems that long range ship CMDRs might want to try for include:

OEVASY KA-A D0 - Planet D 2 is the furthest ELW from Sol (65534.84 LY) so far discovered. I've named it 'Ultima'. 75.70 jump range required.

OEVASY PG-Y D0 - at 65608.77 LY from Sol this system offers the furthest landing opportunities. 78.20 jump range required.

Both these systems still have a few untagged bodies, but you'll need to prove your worth by finding routes to them (do take a lot of jump mats and do not rely on being able to replenish them out there!!)

I've got a large Beam Laser and Imperial Hammer with lots of reloads so can do either:

Whack a Rat either as Rat
Whack a Rat as a Shooter (rail gun)
SRV Derby as a Sniper (beam)

Your choice Erimus :)

Just an idea: "airshow" during the key event?

Normal visitors could simply hop in their SRVs to a safe area, where some of the more skilled CMDRs could do a not-too-risky show and/or the iconic ships or flottillas could do a fly-by. I think it would be a great spectacle - though I understand it would be equally difficult to organize.

I'm sure if you wanted to organize it, Erimus would be cool with slotting it into the week. Similarly, I was thinking a flying by 5 anacondas in close formation over the wedding would be pretty spectacular.

Not quite the same, but who? brought up the idea of a short 'missing man' event; and Freebird & I are in the early planning stage. :)

I wish I could. A couple of years ago I was organizing online races.
Now I have twin daughters and struggle to find enough time to play. For the key event, I even invited my mother-in-law to help us out...

Anyone can organize an event if they like, as long as the timing doesn't coincide with the ones listed above. We're going to be there a whole week, so there should be plenty of time for people to take part in all sorts of shenanigans.

Just make sure they're not too risky to ships. Whack-a-Rat is about as risky as it should get for ships (i.e. there is a collision risk if players become too reckless in their pursuit - something we'll try to keep an eye on).

SRVs are expendable thanks to the SRV bug that re-spawns them back into your hanger after a relog. So feel free to come up with some elaborate SRV based games/events.

While I'm here...

If anyone wants to get involved in running these events please let Kaii or myself know, we need some people to officiate at Whack-a-Rat and the Destruction Derby. Help with organizing and officiating at these would be very much appreciated!

Also, for any players currently at BP and bored, please feel free to have a dry-run of these games, especially whack-a-rat as its an ambitious and untried game concept as far as I know, so I'd love to hear some feedback on them before Sunday's 1st round.
