put some good millage on mine but have not had any issues that seem like a bug. just did this with my SRV today.

lets just say that it was a uh, interesting climb, took me like an hour to get up and I had to climb all they way down to get smooth enough terrain so I could be sure to be able to board my ASP. what I climbed was like the mountains in the background.

You missed the point of my post, I did say the player didn't see the tumble but his watchers did, I don't know , judge for yourself as I haven't watched it :)

Thats interesting. And could be some kind of clue of a disconnect between the client and the server regarding the SRV status and orientation. There have been various reports of explosions happening at a variety of speeds and terrains, and several while in mid air.

It also seems reminiscent of the bug that people had when they would lose shields and drop to 70-30% hull after taking off and hitting "empty space" a few km above a star port. I had this happen to an FDL with 800 MJ shields and 4 pips to sys. It was almost exactly as surprising and sudden as when my SRV exploded. But maybe it was a laggy collision with a bigger ship that was occupying my trajectory in someone else's instance?

agreed, and can't rep you anymore.
As I've said before, this , ED, is a fantastic venture that will grow and grow, problems ironed out and many more features added in future but the underlying fact and ED's biggest weakness is the total and utter uselessness of this sort of "localised" networking (relying on players connecting to each other rather than a central server). On top of it all their current implementation of their instancing is terrible.

Just happened to me again, lost 94% in one go and I hit nothing, well if i did I didn't veer off course or tumble !!!

Since I started this thread I have immediately repaired SRV whenever it went below 98%, and it seems to have just paid off.

Glad to hear you survived!! Be warned though, I just talked to a CMDR last night that had exploded from 100% hull. So I have been extremely careful with my 1 remaining SRV while collecting the jumponium req to make it back from beagle point. I now repair my hull when it reads at 100% but still damaged less than 0.5%. You can see this negligible damage because the repair option becomes available.

Keep us updated. I'm not landing anywhere until this is taken care off. Through replacement or resolving the bug.

So, update on this - support responded and said that they deal with this by sending you back to the bubble, letting you restock, then sending you back. They also asked me to tell them which starport I wish to be sent to (didn't really matter to me as long as it has the restock option). I replied with the port I wanted and then 2 days after that they sent me back to the port specified. They also said they can't guarantee someone will be there right when I reply to let them know I'm done, but that I should let them know and they'll send me back ASAP. Right now logged off with my ship parked at Diaguandri, I let them know I'm restocked and am waiting for the train back.

If anyone decides to go through this process, they're swamped, response times can be high, so if you wish to expedite the process, I suggest including the port you wish to be sent to in the first email you send to them - this should eliminate the need for some back and forth, help them and be faster for you.

So how I'd do it with the knowledge I have now is:

- describe exactly what happened;
- say you wish your SRV restocked and that you heard they solve this by sending you back;
- follow that up with the system and starport name you wish to be sent back to.

After that, resume gameplay until they get to you. When you get sent back, restock and immediately reply. If there's luck someone will be there to act on it soon - if not and there's a bit of a wait, I'd refrain from faffing about in the bubble; I personally would want to switch to a different ship for that, and I definitely don't want to be suddenly sent 8 kly out in a 17ly ranged ship with a class 4 scoop and no detailed scanner :)

+1 for the guide and bothering to reply back here :)

Thanks :) I'll chime back in when they send me back to my original position so you guys know how long it took. If it takes a few days maybe I'll finally give Witcher 3 a look in the mean time :D

An Update on my SRV situation. Frontier Support was kind enough to open a small wormhole for me to climb to a station and restock my lost SRV, and then reopen the wormhole for a return journey back to the Omega Sector. It took 3 days for them to respond to my requests (due to a "large volume" of requests), but I never fell behind the main fleet and now back in lock step. Unfortunately, as soon as I got back I went afk while down throttled, but was apparently somewhat pointed at a white hot A class giant and going just fast enough to do some minor damage. I lost 1% hull and 2% of my PP. Hilariously, when I was back at the spaceport for 5 minutes, I was completely uninjured so there was no reason to heal. And now I am back with a fleet and instantly got a large scuff in the paint job. Ahh well.

Thank you Frontier! You made me feel confident that even though my SRV could blow up at any moment, at least I know you will be there with witchspace portals at the ready to make it right again! And no need to worry about any abuse of the SRV replacement system. I didn't sell data or even check to see if my hull integrity was compromised. I just bought my 1 SRV, logged out, and waited for the Omega Wormhole to reopen ;) After all, it wouldn't be fair to those commanders who raced home to sell their data and claim some planets. Or those who are going the whole way to Beagle and must wait on luck and perseverance to get their due reward.

What terrain quality are you guys /girls using?
I normally play at low, but am going to go to ultra to see if I get affected.

The terrain is the terrain, it is already set for you. I doubt local quality setting makes a difference ?
If you do get affected would it be your new terrain settings or the exploding bug ?

The terrain quality setting I'm referring to is under the graphic options. On low settings small hills have a noticeable sharp point, medium and above makes the terrain look more curved.
I've just tried the ultra setting for the 1st time (I'm running on a laptop that is borderline spec for Horizons) and was stunned by how much better it looks.
Speaking from memory here, but from a dev comment in multiplayer the same terrain quality is enforced for everyone.

[Edit]: If I do get affected I guess it could be something to do with the terrain settings. I've had a number of incidents of logging off in the SRV and spawning up in the air or under the surface. Going from low to medium terrain quality seems to help.
I've got 2 SRVs on board, so am willing to sacrifice 1 for science. :)

I wonder if being in a wing or being present among other wing members on a planet increases the risk of an exploding SRV? Wings seem to be playing up at the moment in terms of exploration data and scanning while your wingmates are in hyperspace, and this might be affected too.
