DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

I have the switch soldered to 2 wires instead on the board that way the whole board can sit inside a case and the switch can be mounted onto the side of the case, I think that will look better

I just want to say this project is awesome.

I have just joined up to premium beta and have followed this topic for a few days now. After trying to source components locally(Australia), and seeing the prices we charge here, I gave in and have ordered from Hobby components.
Cant wait for them to arrive so I can get it together. I think this device will add so much to the experience of ED.

So a big thanks to all involved, Dead Fred, Brumster, Pocketmoon and everyone else.

I suppose you could do that with any other switches you have lying about.
Mounting it on a box is a good idea.
Wish I had a box!

Since pocket dead brum are I hope on verge of a yes with the innards we need to look to the outer! I suspect with the dimensions and the use of CAD and a 3D Printer a small case (mainly for dust proofing) could be assembled
Specs are 1) simple, 2)cheap
I know you could get innards and assemble say £25 then upgrade option to MPU9150 taking to say £30. With case let's say £40 now with assembly as a viable consumer product I would guess still coming in at a fair few quid cheaper than track ir selling at £120. With a kick starter campaign could one day extend to say quick keyboard tracking ie dependent on head movement depends on which key is highlighted on keyboard! Now I lack software knowledge but could be chief of morale support and idea squad! The company could be: DeadPocketSter Industries PLC. As Nike logo says JUST DO IT!!!

well I've been looking further into 9 axis fusion for the MPU-9150 and I've got a test program that *should* allow me to obtain fused data via the serial monitor and get an idea of whether it works and what drift there is, hopefully if that looks good I'll be able to merge my work with yours.
space as expected is going to be the tricky part though, this is compilation output from my current program

Sketch uses 23,604 bytes (82%) of program storage space. Maximum is 28,672 bytes.
Global variables use 770 bytes (30%) of dynamic memory, leaving 1,790 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2,560 bytes.

however once I've got a better handle on what data we need I should be able to remove a lot of functions and slim it down (I hope), not going to worry about that though until I've got the hardware to prove that this eliminates drift (well enough)

I learned to fly there.

In my absolute lack of god.

says run with it.

Styggron be done.

You cannot stop everyone running with it.

We will kill the artistry if we have to.

It's your loss.

I flew all over the glass house Mountians.

Landed on them. Ultimate pinnicale. 3D weirdness.

WIRES AND EVERYTHING.

Still fit my helicopter into it. Tight space.

The beat of the leaves is when you are getting close. 1 to 1

x

I did not land I hovered above it. The way the land fell away when I moved.......
It's is nice to fly

Hi,

I'm in Wales, UK, please can you add my name to the list of interested in a full made kit (assemble the unit with the custom board, calibrate, program and test it with the latest iteration of the code. etc)

£25+P&P or thereabouts seems more than reasonable for a ready to use headtracker.

Yer name's down ;)

My boards arrived today. Itching to "go public" with it all but having to bite down on it for now!!

Just get the emery paper man!
And the black nail polish!
I know you have it you goth!
You and your purple lipstick!

The only reason I'm not sending them out is the lack of good lipstick colours and matching nail polish.
:D

The solder resist is a very particular shade of black..... We have to ask David Brabben if its ok to borrow his lipstick.

Michael Brooks with burgandy nails and black lipstick and a tiny bit of dark eyeliner just to bring out his lovely eyes....... sexy.
ooooh!
:)

Soon I will have to release my crotchless leather trousers!

Kidding!

Do you take names only for assembled units, or also for the daughter boards?

In case of the later, I'm interested in at least one daughter board; two if there is enough for everyone (I have a friend I hope to convert to Elite, gifting a head tracker might be a good way).

My components just arrived! I haven't tested them yet on the breadboard yet, since I need a better soldering iron...

Boards (alone) are the preferred option, to be honest, that's no problem. The "made-up" unit is really just a community thing here on the forum. I'll add you on the list.

What everyone has to realise before they part with cash is that this is not perfect.
It's got problems which we continue to fix. Nothing like this is ever finished.
That is the fun of it. But it works well enough.
With your continued support it may become perfect.

No Income Tax, no VAT, no money back , no guarantee.

heheh.

Who wants one?
Who is on teh list?

We have had some positive news from Frontier , they want to allow this but they are just being a wee bit healthy paranoid.

You have to watch yourself when lawyers are about. You can't just go off and do it though I wish we could. You may get in trouble.
These things take a little bit of time.
Wait 1. Standby.
Hold your horses.
We are looking at it.

A lot of people keep saying the word Kickstarter. That would truly take it to the next level. Double sided surface mount custom board. Imagine if we had funding! Imagine if we had money to throw about. Who want's a job? We might even be taken seriously!
