DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

View attachment 17762

Can anyone help me with this?
I'm running windows 7 64bit, but when opening edtracker the GUI is appearing as in the picture, it has a crosshairs down the bottom left corner.
Also it will connect and flash ok, then say connected in the head section, but will not do anything else like in the documents or video files. It just says "NOT CONNECTED" at the top of the screen when it has flashed fine...
I'm using the 9150 version as supplied by edtracker (not built myself)

This does the same on both of my Win 7 64bit machines.

can anyone help please.

I ran into that. I initially used velcro to attach it to headphones and while adjusting it the button snuck under the edge. That's exactly what the gui looked like while that was happening. Once I realized the button was being continually held down I had a good laugh and all was well again. Hopefully that's all it is!

Just checked incase the button is stuck down, but have the device sitting flat on the desk at the moment away from all magnetic devices.

I've also tried every single USB slot on the computer with the same result.
The GUI shows the same on both of my computers whether the device is plugged in or not.

Just as a temporary measure, try flashing a different firmware into it (one of the 6050 ones - so 2.20.7 for example, or the 2.5.3 calib firmware) and see if it works with that or it's the same story.

I would bounce an email to the person who dealt with your order - which may be me anyway, I don't know :) but we'll sort it out for you if it needs replacing. Which would be odd as they are all tested before they're posted.... :/

Have we actually tried a different usb cable? Dan I can't remember if you supplied a cable with the units but if Pastie is using his own cables then it would be advisable to try another.

Dan, I've also noticed the Wipe eeprom sketch has vanished from the GUI. I had instances where I had a bad flash and needed to wipe and start afresh and this was useful. Although I did figure it was doable from the Ardruino IDE. I did initially have issues moving from 3.0.4 to 4.0.1 and had to flash a couple of times and did show the GUI corruption in Pastie's screen grabs. I think a total wipe and flash might do the trick so may be worth running him through the IDE software to flash a blank sketch.

Brumster as someone with 9150 which firmware should I be using? When I first plugged it in it was using 2.20.7 and thats what I left it on. I ran through the magnetometer calibration fine but now i'm wondering if im using the wrong firmware.

I thought this banding could be used to make a head strap instead of mounting to my headphones because I use them in other places, like this sort of arrangement but mounted on the top.

in the spirit of recycling I have a 6050 EDTracker for sale at cost price in AU$ (including postage within Australia). Obviously, there's no waiting list involved so first in will receive it asap. Private message me

It's a functional 6050 ED Tracker pre-built to order by the lovely enthusiast developers in the UK.
It comes in an enclosure (tictac box plus electrical tape) and I'll give you the USB cable too! Even velcro so you can stick it on your headset.
It's all ready to rock, plug n play! You just need to download the latest software and ensure calibration is done properly so RTFM !

You could be moving your head and the view in-game alters accordingly! It's great for immersion, very handy in combat

The cable it was delivered with seemed not to be compatible. The computer would not detect the device nor allow it to flash. Have tested it with 2 different cables.

He says it connects and flashes OK though, and it would never flash if the cable was bad, so it can't be that :(

Yes, it's gone now, as the "reset factory defaults" now works properly and write all the EEPROM registers on the newer firmwares. I could put it back in the developer mode I guess, should people need it.

If you're running a 9150 then the EDTracker2_9150 firmware (4.0.1) is the one for you. Maybe when you purchased we hadn't finished the code yet? On the website there's a specific user guide for magnetometer-enabled devices; just follow the instruction in that and you're sorted ;)

What makes you think the cable is at fault? If you tried it with a second cable and it still didn't detect or flash, chances are it's not the cable (or you're very unlucky with cables!). Check the cable with something like a mobile phone if you can, something that's a known good. But you said previously that the device connected and flashed fine, so the cable must be working I think. And you've tried different PC and different USB ports, which is great, so it makes me think something is up with the device.

Perhaps, although it arrived on Friday just gone (27th Feb 2015). I did try to flash the sketch that was noted as 9150 but it gave me a "Bootloader Port is not found error" so I didn't pursue it.

Solder hasn't been right since they stopped putting lead in it, the new stuff cracks.

If solder is cracked it could create an intermittent joint that might seem like a software problem.

perhaps but other than me not really understanding the gui/FW the thing works perfectly in game which I assume it wouldn't if it had a dry solder joint.

Just to edit, I was reading the information from the wrong part of the GUI, thus it was a pebcak error and nothing to do with the GUI or the device ;)

I've sent an email regarding this and "dor" has replied regarding a new cable.
I've tested the supplied cable with other devices that I have and they are not responding either when plugged into it. My own (very short) cables work fine with them.

I've been running through the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2xCjdC4X0I&feature=youtu.be and with my own cables its running fine up to the part when the flashing is complete, the log message on the screen when it flashes is the same as in the video but after when it should be pausing and calibrating itself it does not do anything and you get the screenshot as in my post on page 252.

I'll await the reply from dor by email.

thanks

Right Pastie,

I've gone down the same procedure and mine actually does the same thing as yours after flashing and upon connecting the tracker to any USB. Once flashing I have to scan ports and then hit connect to tracker. Generally I find once the flashing is done that the tracker changes to a different com port which the GUI doesn't automatically pick up on so I have to scan and it sometimes takes a couple of attempts of hitting the connect button to start working.

But most importantly, when plugging the tracker in to a new USB slot, Windows should search for drivers and detect it as an EDTracker2. Do you actually see that happen?
