DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

Kiblams nice vid,

I’ve tried rotating to the side”YAW” then moving over to the same side “X” and then stretching the neck upwards “Y” , (very impressive, look all out to the side and down to the ground)
Problem was, look to the left and the “Y” go’s up, Look to the right and the “Y” go’s down?

I’m using Opentrack 2.2

Reboot.

Yeah I tried binding the up/down or forward/back to the yaw, but as you have said it only works on way, instead I find binding them to pitch is more natural and works great. I get a great view down out of my cockpit. :)

Sorry to hear that Whagwan, so here is a re-post from the past.

Yeah, I do use a Velcro tie to secure the cable to the tracker, but it got yanked by accident. When I change boards on Monday I'm gonna secure the whole connection in milliput to ensure it doesn't happen again.

I’m trying that as I write.

Let me know how you find it!

I have just discovered that I can now see my Type 9 co-pilot seats:

Awesome! :)

Sorry to say, I don’t like it, Up and Down with “YAW” is the best for me.

What do you say? shall we go over to Opentrack and beat them up:cool:, we need the “Y axis” to work properly.

Reboot.

Yeah we might have to!

I personally find the most important translations are the left/right with yaw and forward/back with pitch. How are you finding thise two?

forward/back is that not ZOOM?

There has been talk about an EDTracker with Ir. leds for implementing the Zoom.

Nope, not zoom. All that does is move your pilots head towards the windshield/dash, so of you look to the side and lean forwards it won't zoom.

What adding forward movement to looking down does is; makes the pilot lean over the screen between his legs. So on ships like the Lakons where you can look down; you get a great view through the windows down there. Think of it as bending at the waist a little to lean forward.

forward/back are we not talking about “Z”?

I tried mapping “Z” to my ROLL and whenever I rolled my head it zoomed all the way in and all the way out (depending on how it was set in Opentrack.

Edit: remember I'm not using ED, I tested this with a flight sim.

Hmmm... Yeah it was Z. On my PC the Z just controls back and forwards, it doesn't follow the orientation of my head (at least I don't think it does) so 'zooming is limited to directly forwards only.

I have designed my setup to mimic the actual movement of my eyes in relation to the pivot point (my neck). Heads don't pivot around a central point in the middle of your head, its the neck, so looking down moves your eye position forwards and down from looking straight forwards.

Hello thread, i need some help.

I just build my edtracker with 9150 and it is giving me problems. I am using the latest 4.0.4.0 Gui and 4.0.3. firmware. My problem is that the yaw keeps centering immediately while pitch works as expected. I tried it also with the version 2 firmware and with it both pitch and yaw worked as expected and no centering was happening.

I needed to put the graph lines to almost flat as translation is crazy sensitive in E: D

If I make flat translations in “Z” then I also get fine head movement backwards and forwards, but if I use all the graph then I get a good ZOOM all the way out the window all the way to the enemy.

PS: Remember I’m not using ED.

Ah you have trackir or something? I guess you wouldn't need to do what I am doing it you have a trackir. :)

You will need to download open track, and load the INI that henry has posted.

Hi, yes, have Opentrack set up for Edtracker, and all set up with the ini file. Not a problem there, but what I need to know is what settings in Frontier Elite do I need to set to enable this?
Is it headlook, is it up/down/left/right, or something else?

Working fine in opentrack but need to know which elite settings do i need to adjust to make it work with opentrack.

Hmmm, without being in front of my PC its hard to guide you. Bit there is a section where you tell it to use the trackir protocol, once that is done, you hit start and it just works. Doesn't need any binding in the ED controls menu, infaxt if you bound head tracking, you should probably remove them.

To use the tracker with Opentrack you just have to remove all the edtracker axis asignments from the ED control settings. ED automatically recognizes trackir and opentrack and just works. Worth binding a center key in opentrack to reset center. tracking on/off is useful too.

I'm sorry....:(

I got my tracker, but i forgot to say THANKS! It works great, i love it!
Many thanks to the guy who build it for me.:D:D:D:D:D

Any thoughts on this? Tracker works perfectly for hours on end but if I pop my head set off and place them on the desk when I return the gyro has gone completely nuts and wont settle. This the manifests itself as a shaking head in gui and in game and can only be solved by calibrating the gyro again. It didnt do this at all on the previos gui build / flash and has only started to do it since GUI 4.0.4.0 + Magnetometer MPU-9150 4.0.3 firmware.
