DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

Hi, I have calibrated my ED tracker, but keep getting this weird behaviour. When I look to the left or right, the head on the GUI resets back to looking straight, even whilst i'm still looking left or right. Am I missing something?

I'm sure this is causing some issues when im on free look in ED.

Try changing toggle response mode to exponential, if that don't help sorry I have no idea.

Edit, I am no expert but I seem to remember something about that in Brumsters setup youtube, its how mine is setup (exponential) and I don't have the same issue.

Kind of suggests the magnetometer is constantly trying to correct it back, which makes me think the mag calibration hasn't been completed - either you didn't collect 500 points, or you didn't click "save" to save them? Maybe? Daft as it sounds, a few people have missed it, which is why I mention it :) !

Exponential would be better for going direct to E: D but linear will work better in OpenTrack because you have access to the curves which will give you exponential and differential expo too but much more tunable.

The times that my 9150 EdTracker has tried to recenter on it's own. It's always been the calibration where you rotate the tracker in every orientation to generate that round point cloud thing.

When I get any kind of jittery bounce I need to reset the tracker via software or the button. It's almost always because it was lying on it's side on the desk for a long time causing drift. I hang mine up on a headset in the correct orientation and it stays calibrated for weeks.

Hello all, hoping to get some help with my build.
I bought parts to build the mpu-9150 version from hobby components and pcb board from the edtracker website, assembled it and connected to pc using a phone data cable, installed arduino 1.5.8 drivers and the device is showing as an arduino leonardo in device manager. I'v flashed it with the EDTracker2_9150 version with the gui (however this only takes 5-10 seconds, there is no 20 second delay) but after it completes the gui shows not connected and doesn't update to show the magnetometer tab, showing no readings from the device. Not sure if I have missed a step somewhere or if something is wrong with my setup, any help would be appriciated, Thanks.

I just received the kit from hobbycomp for the 9150. Afaik it's the same Arduino board with a different chip onboard so the wiring scheme should be exactly the same as the 6050. Confirm?

Double check the button - it sounds like it closed by default (wired 90 degrees off) ? That would cause the sketch to stick in a recentre loop and not output any orientation data.

Yes. Confirmed :)

Hi

Been using my edtracker constantly since I got me new one, love it. Tested a bit with Open Track but the roll option makes things a bit tricky for me, but a good feature.

But the reason I'm here is...I play other games (yes, not just Elite :)) mainly MMORPG type games, in this instance the mmo known as rift (no, not the occulus rift, but the game rift). A lot of these games use "mouse look" to look around, e.g. hold right mouse button down and move the mouse to look around. I would love to be able to do this with EdTracker as this would make controlling these types of games pretty easy.
I've spent a few hours searching on google trying to find info on whether this was possible, but so far I've not found much of any use.
I know you can use opentrack to emulate a mouse but this takes complete control of the mouse and doesn't let you use the mouse with it.
Also there is no support for joysticks in this particular game.

Does anyone know if this is possible with a device like edtracker and Opentrack? It would have to emulate holding the right mouse button down while looking around.

Thoughts please :)

I don't know if that's possible since the game is probably hardcoded to use your system mouse not a second mouse or joystick. Unless the control options allow you to bind a second device for mouselook like ED does. Or a joystick. But most of these games assume you are using the default mouse you control windows with and won't support anything else.

You could try removing your system mouse and see if edtracker becomes your default mouse, but then you would have to control windows with your head lol.

I recently upgraded my EDTracker from a 6050, which worked ok but drifted a lot, to a 9150 and ended up with exactly this issue. Turns out the 9150 didn't like working upside down, flipping its orientation fixed the problem.

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but here's a link to both v158 and v163 Arduino drivers:

http://www.mediafire.com/download/4bef416cpckc115/ArduinoDrivers.rar

I had a real struggle getting the ED-Tracker to be recognised after loading (a fresh install of) win 8.1.

In truth much of my problem stemmed from w8.1 enforcing driver signing by default.

If you're struggling on w8.1 installing drivers:

hth

i have no problem installing the drivers in win8.1 - but i have to do it each time i restart my pc.

what to do?

Don't have Win8.x, sticking with 7 but I had to disable UAC to get the drivers to stick as it were, then re-enabled it. is there something similar in Win 8 above and beyond that in Henry's link?

has anyone ever tried installing the 9150 on windows 10, just wondering if it works ok and if there are any problems.
I had the 9150, but had to go back to the 6050, as i had the problem that although the 9150 was installed in the device drivers, it would not work as a joystick (although the calibration screen was there, and in the UI, i had connected above the head, but NOT CONNECTED above that. i could never get it to work on both my computers, (laptop and PC), so was wondering if it would work in win 10.

I'm running the Win 10 technical preview in a VMWare virtual machine and EdTracker (9150) is detected and works perfectly :)

On a real PC, I imagine the same would be true. YMMV

Edit: Obviously UAC and driver signing have to be disabled as per Win 8.

I got my 6050 working ok in in windows 10 insider, and it found the driver with no problems, i did a clean install too. So maybe the 9150 should work too. I did not have to do anything to disable driver signing, it showed in devices straight away using the Arduino 1.5.8. Maybe this is a feature of the latest build, or the fact you are using a virtual software.
