DIY Head Tracker For A Tenner

Ah, the Sketches currently support horizontal/flat sensor mounting only. The UI allows you to rotate around 'up' but wont work with a vertical sensor.

Not a big change to the sketches to allow this though so will have a think and update the code this evening.

Amos - you can be the alpha tester :)

I got another one so will use that one with the daughterboard and yes I can test it for you that is not a problem :)

Sounds like a dodgy reset, or corruption somehow that's when weird axis mixing happens.
:)

Hopefully its just the vertical mount maybe the new code changes will fix it :)

ok I have installed and compiled it now up to ONE TIME DEVICE CALIBRATION. when I open up serial monitor though there are no numbers scrolling nothing!! There is a constant red light on and 2 yellows on arduino and 1 red on MPU6050

Uncommented the debug output line :) ?

Mind you, the one LED on the Arduino should be flashing - you've not done this whole "wired the button in wrong" thing have you :) ? You on breadboard here, or the board we sent you?

Wont work on one of PC's

I built two boards up today. Very easy to build and very good quality board. I built two of them, as my wife, (Flossy on here) wanted one too. I installed and setup the Arduino's on my Mac Pro as that had the Arduino development environment already installed. I run a PC for ED and Flossy runs a iMac that runs a Windows bootcamp partition. I tested both EDtracker builds on my PC and after loading the beta Arduino on my PC for the drivers, they worked fine. However when I come to try them on Flossies system I cannot get it to register in ED. I installed the same Arduino software that I put on my PC and the EDtracker is recognised fine. It shows up as a HID device etc. But as soon as I try and set it to an axis in ED, nothing. Any ideas what I can try next? Her ED works fine with Warthog controllers so it not a problem recognising controllers.

@ Pazmeister.
When stuff like that happens to me I just unplug it from the big usb end.
Protect the micro end.
A lot of the time it starts running whatever you have just flashed. Or what was there before.

I've seen my ones just sit there with all the lights on doing precisely FA.
Unplugging seems to unconstipate (very technical electronic term) them.
A reboot/ restart

Stoney silence..... The tumbleweeds blow by.....
:D

Some people are finding that you have to rebind loads of different axes if you have an X-52. I don't have one. Or a Warthog. But similarly complex profiles?
They seem to suffer from mixing of axes rather than not seeing some.
hmmm.

What happens if you unplug the joystick?
Id like to try and isolate the tracker from other input devices and see if that helps.

We are not trying to play the game we are isolating the problem.
Is there an equivalent of the usb game controller window in bootcamp.
Can you perform a sanity test? Don't jump straight into ED.

Unplug it wait for it to boot for a minute and try again.
Reboot 4 times, wait no, that's Windows.
Reboot the internet? Twice?
:D

Also I should just say before anyone else does " Why are you using a Mac"
In my opinion they fall into roughly into the same category as another well know headtracking solution.
As the Dixie Flatline in Neuromancer said "I never did like to do anything simple when I could do it ass-backwards"
I could build a Hackmac using AMD hardware and try it too!

Good that is out my system.
Let's move on , how can we fix it.

1 option is to wait a few months till ED is released on macs.
Not really an option....

I did try removing all the analogue axis settings in her ED controls config but made no difference. Must admit I didn't try unplugging everything. As it's working in a fashion on another game on her machine, I am starting to wonder if it's related to the multi controller problems that has plagued ED since the beginning. She has a lot more devices on her machine than my PC. I am back home in an hour so will try unplugging the lot and seeing what happens.

Is it just that it won't bind or binds but doesn't work in game ?

It won't bind which is the part I can't fathom. Appears as a HID device etc. no problem. As I said we tried it on Aces High which supports TrackIR etc. and binds controllers in a similar fashion and it worked. So it looks like it's an ED problem. I know I am setting it up correctly in ED as it works great on my PC.

Guys this is such an awesome project. Sadly I'm pretty awful with a soldering iron so I'll have to wait until you guys can fabricate them...

Hobby components seem to be out of stock of the set now :|
Would mind putting one together for me for a small fee? If you think i'm being too cheeky tell me to get stuffed ;)

I believe brumster at least is taking orders for pre-made devices, possibly pocketmoon and deadfred as well. If they are too busy, I would be able to assist, but makes more sense to go through them first if they are available

I agree with Megram. I did send you a PM offering similar. I think you might find it a bit of a problem ordering from HobbyComponents though as they are now out of stock.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, I'm on Brumster's 'list' now so should be sorted when components are available but I'll let you know if I need your help.

Great to be part of such a friendly community!

I'm a bit low on stock myself, it's been like a production line here last weekend!

Short of any better options, ebay have a number of pro micros/6050s for sale from uk vendors. Little bit more expensive than hobby components, but close enough to be comparable
