Hardware & Technical DIY X52 Pro + Chair mod

I've attempted various methods to mount my X52 stick and throttle; I tried the Ikea hack with the stands for the Svartasen laptop tables (set aside the table surface, Velcro the stick or throttle to the mount), but my apartment doesn't have quite enough room for it to work out comfortably. I keep coming back to the VESA bracket idea.

The problem is, my chair is an Ikea Markus, and its arms are built on thin metal bars curved into shape, so they may not be thick enough, and their curvature is such that I can't see the basic VESA bracket angling enough to create a horizontal mount for the stick/throttle, even if it can clamp to the chair arm. (The product page is here, so maybe you can see the problem.)

I'm wondering if a pair of thick rubber wedge doorstops might solve the problem, angling them like this: |/ /|, to improve the VESA bracket's angle and give it something more substantial to lock on to.

Those of you who have gone the VESA bracket route, does that make any sense?

It makes sense... the brackets can take a width of about 9cm so if that fits the chair arm, I don't see why you can't shove a wedge in there to get the angle right.

Give it a whirl and post pics of your success (or fail :p)

Here's my attempt. Thanks to the OP for a belting solution :)

This is an excellent IDEA! Im doing this next time I have extra funds... atleast until I get my desk fully built out...

My brackets came in today (I got the two-joint variants), and using two rubber doorstops on each chair arm, I was able to attach them to the arms of my Ikea Markus chair without much trouble. I found that removing the plastic end caps covering the joints allowed the two-joint brackets to bend past 90 degrees, so I now have my X52 Pro stick and throttle mounted to either arm of my chair. All I've got to do is secure the cable connecting the throttle to the stick, and I'm good to go.

I tried to attach a picture, but the forum software didn't seem to like it. It's basically like the pictures in the OP, anyway.

Short story: success! \o/

Pics or it never happened! :D

Let's see ... here's the picture of the finished job, if it'll let me link:

And I documented the process for attaching the bracket for the control stick here:

What a great solution, it appeals to me as both as gamer and a Scotsman.. Functional and Thrifty!!

I know what my next project will be, thanks so much for sharing :)

I am, however, using the bigger Rhino so hoping that the extra size can be accommodated ok. Still have my old X52 as backup if needed though.

The 55 is a bit bigger at the base, but the clamps should be able to cope fine... we need pics when you have done it!

Edit - more brackets are due on or around the 16th march
