DLC18 discussion and predictions

Both the animal packs that year were great grasslands is still my favourite even though it had 3 carnivorans the roster just felt really strong especially the exhibit animal. Grasslands alone had representation from every continent and all but the aquatic biome. I may be biased since I like grasslands as a biome more than wetlands but both are good.
Both have birds and reptiles and different types of Mammals which made them well balanced but i still think NA was peak animal pack. It was perfect for the theme it was supposed to cover and we never had a pack with that good choices after it. Because even in Grasslands and Wetlands i can think of better picks for some animals. Oceanía came close but is missing the tree kangaroo in place of the random quokka so in a way it was also a dissapointment.

Only thing about the North América Animal Pack that would've made it a 10 for me would've have been a bird, the most iconic possible after the bald eagle: the turkey. I do prefer other choices like roseate spoonbill but the turkey is an icon among NA birds and is really the only thing missing from that pack and i'm sure that if the arctic fox would've been in the arctic pack the turkey could've been in the animal pack.

I understand the dissapointment with ungulates. However, it is one of the bigger groups of herbivores, so I also understand that Frontier adds a lot of ungulates. It's also quite a varied, big group of animals. Some ungulates could, in my humble opinion have some more, mainly caprids. Markhor mainly.
It’s funny you mention caprines because outside of a second giraffe and the Blackbuck that’s what all my ungulate wants are.

Markhor
Himalayan Tahr
Muskox

Actually, the Arctic fox WAS my only complaint. I wanted the red (preferably the gray) fox instead. But I would've out in a whooping crane, ruddy duck, roadrunner, or turkey before it any day

Yeah like i would not get rid of the arctic fox just move it to arctic DLC where it trully belongs instead of grey wolf white skin that we got.

My top three for ungulates at this point are probably blackbuck, muntjac and Barbary sheep. These just feel like three niches that haven't really been filled by ungulates yet, most other picks at the very least we have something which you can substitute it for but we still don't have a proper Indian filler ungulate, a deer for temperate Asia, or a warm climate caprine.

Never saw the inlcusion of the artic fox in the NA pack as super weird. Would it have fit better in the artic pack? Sure.
But its an north american animal and therefore fits in the pack. I mean we also got the prairie dog which is a grasslands/desert animal and the alligator which is mainly a subtropical one, so the artic fox as a mainly tundra one doesnt stand out more than any of the others imo

No more weird than the moose or cougar...

I'm not saying it doesn't fit just that a NA bird would have made the pack a real 10.

If the NA animal pack didn't have the Fox I'm positive they would've chosen the American Black Bear.

The next pack will be: Farmland pack:
Exhibit:
- Brown Rat
Habitat:
  • Turkey
  • Muscovy Duck
  • Flemish Giant Rabbit
  • Shetland Pony
  • Kunekune Pig
  • Nubian Goat
  • Valais Blacknose

I really only think ungulates were a "problem" with Arid. Eurasia sure, but it also depends on what you personally wanted from the literal supercontinent. I would have not included the saiga, boar, and wisent, but I know many people wanted those animals and they do fit the pack very well. With Barnyard, having six ungulates really makes sense imo. Sure it's not super diverse, but almost all the most recognizable livestock are ungulates.

I just can't see how Frontier could do this with a Latin America Pack though. I feel like a the guanaco or vicuna is not super likely anymore because of the alpaca. I fear the inclusion of the lowland tapir though, and tapirs are my favorite animals! Deer are really the only other ungulates that really stick out to me from LATAM, and I don't think Frontier would pick one unless it's the pudu. I doubt theyd include another peccary. But honestly, I just need my spectacled bear, howler/spider monkey, and tamarin.

Talking about bears if we get one in a next pack it would be kind of weird if that was it lol imagine we got all but one bear species.
Not really imo seeing as 1 of the 2 looks very similar to ones we already have. Spectacled Bear does something for its continent and looks a bit unique, ABB adds to a continent we really don't need more of.

Here's a fun idea, I looked at the top 10 wild species that would work as habitat on zootierliste by holders and I got this list:
  1. Golden Pheasant
  2. African Spurred Tortoise
  3. Mandarin Duck
  4. Greater Rhea
  5. Black Swan
  6. White Stork
  7. South American Coati
  8. Wood Duck
  9. Patagonian Mara
  10. Silver Pheasant
So my question is, how much do you want each of these animals in the game?

  1. 8/10, would be a pretty cool filler Asia animal.
  2. 5/10, Boring but would be something different than another monitor so acceptable.
  3. 10/10, I mean its a duck and its beautiful, what more is there to say.
  4. 6/10, Needed for South America and would be good for mixed enclosures, but the animal itself is imo kinda boring.
  5. 3/10, Don't need another swan when theres so many other waterfowl species to choose from that are so much better.
  6. 3/10, I mean I guess I'd like it but I'm just so sick of Europe at this point lol what is it with the 2 smallest continents getting the most content recently lol
  7. 8/10, Beautiful and unique, still some SA species I want more but I do still really want this little fella.
  8. 9/10, Same reason as mandarin, beautiful and is a duck.
  9. 9/10, Would be great for petting zoos and for mixed SA enclosures in general, they're so cute.
  10. 8/10, same reasoning as Golden, its colourful and its a bird thats all I care about.

  1. Golden Pheasant: definetly want it
  2. African Spurred Tortoise: Eh id prefer different tortoises
  3. Mandarin Duck: Hell yeah
  4. Greater Rhea: Eh SA got way more interesting bird options to offer imo, but its really important for its regions so idk
  5. Black Swan: One swan is enough for me for the moment
  6. White Stork: Okayish addition, but there are better birds
  7. South American Coati: Hell yeah
  8. Wood Duck: There are ducks id prefer but any ducks is an awesome addition
  9. Patagonian Mara: Definetly
  10. Silver Pheasant: Would prefer golden or monal but this woudl be awesome aswell

Honestly? Literally all of these would be banger additions. The tortoise is my least favorite and even then I still quite like it. It should’ve been in the Arid pack over the gazelle, addax, or rhino IMO. A pheasant also felt like a no-brainer for Eurasia. It’s simultaneously sad and funny that only three of these aren’t birds.

Black swan and mandarin duck especially would be a dream come true for me lol.
