DLC18 discussion and predictions

But PK old exhibit system is just WE without path in middle. It doesnt fix anything. All of exhibit animals would still stuck to plop it down and forget approach. It looks better at first glance only because PZ one is even more horrendous.
New one will work literally like this.
Yeah not habitat in terms of outdoor, open enclosure but so you can actually build their terrarium how you want and they can move around in it.
.... with minis being able to go outside their home module and roam around, if players wish them to do.

I'm bored, so it's time for making another guess for the DLC. What if it is a pack with one animal from each biome?
  1. Aquatic: walrus
  2. Desert: Hamadryas baboon
  3. Grasslands: Patagonian mara
  4. Temperate: muntjac
  5. Taiga: markhor
  6. Tundra: muskox
  7. Tropical: South American coati
  8. Exhibit: chameleon (random one lol)
Aquatic: Great White Pelican
Desert: Patagonian mara
Grasslands: Greater rhea
Temperate: Golden pheasant
Taiga: Palla's cat
Tundra: Musk ox
Tropical: Black howler monkey
Exhibit: Panther chameleon

Just missing my coati 🥲

You know what would be interesting is if they used the path system in PC2 for exhibits in PZ2. If we get aquariums this would be especially useful for making touch tanks.

I made a little concept of what I think this would look like. From the bottom bar instead of having exhibits mixed in with facilities have a separate tab for exhibits and small habitats. In this, you will be able to create 3 different types of exhibits:
  • 🪳 Terrariums
  • 🐟 Tanks
  • 🦇 Small Aviaries
Once you enter the tab you will choose 1 of those 3 depending on which one you want, then select a mode. For the terrariums tab, there are 3 modes:
  • Market Mode - When the market tab is selected, players will be shown the market for terrariums. These terrariums are non customizable as far as their size go, basically the current situation we're in now. In this tab there are a variety of different types of terrariums, mainly either rectangular or round. You can choose a circular, oval, rectangle, square, etc. for a shape of terrarium.
  • Grid Mode - In this mode you will be able to create an exhibit similar to the modular giftshops. You will start with 1 square terrarium (with a custom scale chosen by you). Once you place it down, you will be able to add another squared terrarium to any side of it, making the terrarium larger. You can keep adding squares as much as you want until you get a shape you are satisfied with. Every time you attach 2 squares together, the wall that you attached it to will vanish, increasing the space within the exhibit, so its not just 2 separate exhibits side by side.
  • Draw Mode - Finally in draw mode the builder will have full customizability over the shape of their terrarium. Once in the mode, players will be able to draw a line on their screen to sketch where they want their terrarium to be. When the line is connected back to make a 2D shape, you will have the option to fill the shape to make it an terrarium, or edit the shape you drew if you're not satisfied with it yet.
The actual exhibit design system will stay the same as in PZ1, you will be able to click the terrarium, and go through several dropdown lists to help decorate your terrariums with logs, plants, etc.

In the tanks and aviaries options, the tabs will look quite similar. In tanks, you will have market mode where you can purchase types of premade tanks, grid mode and draw mode. You can filter settings like the clarity and colour of your water as well. You’ll also have the option to make any of your tanks touch tanks by selecting that option in tank settings.

In the aviaries tab, the market mode will consist of once again, premade aviaries where you will be able to choose between walkthrough or non walkthrough aviaries. Draw mode and grid mode in the aviaries tab will work generally the same as the other systems, however you will have to adjust the height of certain points in your aviary specifically. For example when you draw your aviary shape, the game will come up with a design of what your aviary will look like without actually placing it - from there you can adjust certain parts of the netting to make the netting higher, wider, or of course choose the material (glass, net, null, etc.). You can choose whether you want the top of your aviary to be flat (like the WTE) or angled.

Thoughts?

This is pretty great and would be a nice advancement of the present system. I would honestly settle for just Market and Grid mode, honestly... I like the "draw" mode idea too but realistically most of the time - tanks are squares, rectangles or circles anyway. Though I guess aviaries would the exception, eh? Even with those I do think people would tend to use the prefab ones to start, anyway, and adjust from there.

I would still kinda wish there was a way to customize things even further (e.g., placing certain scenery items that have "perch/spawn" points where the animal would be able to spawn on -- or in the case of birds, hop/fly between). But I understand why that's not usually on the table, even in fantasy scenarios like this one. Hah. It feels complicated. My ideal would be a full-blown "design mode" for things like this where you could just design an individual tank/terrarium and plop it down in your zoo. The rationale being that the distinct mode would allow more creativity and allow you to zoom in close/work with a "blown up" version of it for fine detailing, etc.

But since that's very clearely a pipe dream - your idea is great! LOL

I was thinking more of touch tanks as those are usually very wonky with weird curved sections.

Also just to be clear since I didn’t clarify in the original post, the tanks and aviaries are only for things like fish, budgies and bats, larger animals like dolphins, birds of prey or macaws would be integrated into the regular habitat system, I have no idea how they would but they would lol.

Ah! Great point. I wasn't shooting the idea down but... Just felt like it would mostly go unused. More options is always better. Hah! And yeah... I'd tend to agree with the animals you're suggesting for being habitat species.

I'd generally assume anything that functionally works as a habitat animal should be implemented as such. There's limited examples of species beyond those you listed that could work for "tanks." Various species of mice, slow loris, naked mole rats, and other mammals smaller than baby meerkats that are almost always kept solely indoors.

I would like to see that sort of thing.

As far as I can think of so far, these would be my lists for each type:
🪳 Terrariums:
  • Snakes
  • Smaller lizards (geckos, anole, chameleon, frilled lizard, etc.)
  • Snails, cockroach, really small tortoises
  • Naked mole rat
  • Salamanders
  • Mice / rats
  • Ants (not sure how these would be implemented though as a species maybe buy them in batches of 5?)
  • Tenrecs (maybe?)
🐡 Tanks:
  • Any type of fish
  • Lionfish
  • Small sharks
  • Frogs
  • Seahorses
  • Axolotl
  • Jellyfish
  • Eels
  • Piranha (yes I know it’s a type of fish)
  • Octopus
  • Archerfish (these are so cool)
  • Lobster
  • Crawfish
  • Crabs
  • Sea stars (although these may turn out as props)
🦜 Small Aviaries:
  • Several types of bats
  • Flying fox
  • Budgies
  • Parakeets
  • Kookaburra
  • Hummingbirds
  • Toucans (maybe?)
  • Butterflies
  • Sloth (I still believe it belongs here)
Of course I don’t expect all of these and some of them I’m not sure if they would work out.

Ants (not sure how these would be implemented though as a species maybe buy them in batches of 5?)
Only way i can see ants is by making them scenery pieces i guess? Like having a nestbox module, some pipe modules and bends, and an overworld/feeding/foraging module, all of which with little animations of ants walking and carrying leafs around.
So you can build your exhibit how you like it.
Obviously thats only really a thing for leafcutter ants, but honestly thats the only that i thing is relevant for zoos anyways? Correct me if im wrong

Wasn't there a song titled "echidna something" in the official soundtrack of the game?
Not that I know of this has been brought up alot but I have looked at the soundtrack titles and cant see anything.

For what it's worth, "hedgehog" just refers to that topiary we already have in the game, most likely. The European hedgehog would be a super stupid addition and I doubt even Frontier with all their questionable choices over the years would be that dumb. I also feel like 'lemming' is some kind of Planet Coaster ride.
yeah I am aware over half the choices already had some explanation only 4 of them have none. Honestly I would enjoy a hedgehog maybe the european isnt the most common in zoos but it is defenitely the most recognisable.

My hope is that “duck” is gonna be a sign that we will get one, otherwise the only way I can see why it was added to the dictionary is it’s an ambient bird in PC2.
unfortunately for you duck means nothing since there are already duck props ingame and the game is pretty much entirely translated.

Why? I think the European roster is pretty good. It covers all the basic and iconic animals minus just a few. Is a lot more that can be said for South América.
Europe has all its big iconic animals that need was met a while ago. What the roster is missing are the smaller animals things like rabbits, hedgehogs, mustelids and waterfowl. Which granted most places dont have this met but it feels more impactful for the european roster since that is a majority of the well known animals from europe.

Also can we please stop this constant one upping that happens anyone says anything about other continents rosters. We get it south america sucks right now doesnt mean we cant have a conversation about anywhere else. There was no claim europe has a bad roster or that its suffering just that a hedgehog would of be a good addition compared to other current additions.

Okay, so it looks like some folks will be playing Planet Coaster 2 at GamesCom. I think it's safe to assume there won't be any PZ news this week.

Could we see an Outsource_LQA update? Sure. But nothing formal. This was already probably assumed but... Since it seems to come up every few days, thought I'd put thiis out there. Hah.

Im changing the idea slightly and going for an animal from each biome exclusive to that biome
aquatic: leafy sea dragon (exhibit) / koi
desert: african spurred tortoise
grasslands: blackbuck
temperate: Australian brushturkey
taiga: markhor
tundra: muskok
tropical: black howler monkey

we might see the iqa this week but its likley we wont hear anything till the stream next week. We are also getting close to the point where planet coaster 2 is too close by to have any planet zoo news so if we dont get any new next week or the first week of September we wont see a release till december. Since the likelihood they announce and release a new pack within a month of planet coaster 2 is next to none
