DLC18 discussion and predictions

Now thinking about it they’ll probably do the same as when we got the Meg teaser 3 weeks out they’ll put someone on screen and say they’re working on something while an animal appears slowly in the background.
maybe the tail of a spider monkey or the tail of a coati or the tusks of a walrus

We don’t know that though, JWE2 got 2 packs in 2024 then ended, we’ve only got 1 so far, so there’s a good chance the next one is the last. They could be wanting to finish up PZ as well before the new game.
I'm not sure what you're responding to in my post? My post probably wasn't clear. Haha. Because I definitely agree that there's a good chance the next Planet Pack is going to be the last and one of the reasons I think that is because there's a new CSM game coming right around the corner.

I was only referring to the content of the pack. Just because the last JWE2 pack contained 2 highly requested animals, 1 mid-tier requested animal, and 1 oddball(ish) pick... I wouldn't assume that the Planet Zoo pack would follow the same formula. Traditionally the PZ packs have been much better than the JWE packs in terms of quality, quantity, and addressing fan requests. There's also more incentive for them to leave the game ending on a high note because its their own IP.

Don't forget to tune into this months Frontier unlocked for news and updates on some of your favourite Frontier games, including Planet Zoo, F1® Manager 24 and of course, Elite Dangerous!

I'm guessing it's just the announcement of the next console bundle and maybe a verbal update about (vaguely) when the next animal pack might be coming for PC (they might actually say "coming months" time time around LOL).

I'm not anticipating a teaser yet given that we don't yet have an updated outsource_lqa; there were signals of a new DLC for JWE2 on the SteamDB by the time they teased the megalodon. They also specified "exciting news" for JWE2 and PZ for that particular stream.

I'd love to be wrong, but I'm keeping my expectations tempered for this one given everything going on at the moment (or rather, because of the complete lack of things going on).

Are there chinese player forums where you can see this data? This forum leans heavily on english speaking countries.
Sadly, I can't read Chinese, but I know a Chinese person who happens to be the sort of person who is aware of the local wildlife but not skewed towards anything in particular. They don't play the game.
  • I asked them which animals were missing from their perspective. The first ones they brought up were giant and red pandas as the most critical, followed by moon bears, tigers, cranes, and snow leopards. I told them the game already had all of those (at least at the species level) plus the pangolin.
    • They mentioned the golden snub-nosed monkey as a staple of local zoos that comes up fairly often in social media posts. They seemed to think that one was super obvious. There is a famous one nicknamed something like "Big Baby" that takes treats from a keeper.
    • They also mentioned Chinese alligators, chiru, and a few small deer species (especially a chevrotain).
    • I asked them about pheasants and Mandarin ducks. They seemed to like the duck and mentioned they'd forgotten about it previously, but they had no idea what the pheasant was.
    • They had also never heard of takin and were initially confused when I mentioned the Pere David's deer, but looked it up and realized it goes by a very different name in Chinese. They called it a horse deer and said it has the nickname of the four "not's" deer because it looks like other animals. The Chinese Wikipedia page apparently differs from the English one when describing their conservation story. They were familiar with some of the fanged deer species, but didn't keep track of each individual one.
    • They also mentioned softshell turtles, boar, and river dolphins.
  • Apparently, China teaches its kids about some of the more endangered animals. To prevent poaching, there are serious consequences for messing with certain "tiers" of fauna. The golden snub-nosed monkey was a popular one when they were growing up. It is called something like a "treasure of China". This is one way I'd imagine many people would become familiar with the animal even if they don't attend zoos regularly.
  • I asked them to locate and read the forum where Chinese players discuss Planet Zoo, but the one we found was less organized with no meta-wishlist. The people on it were mostly wishing their builds looked as nice as certain online creators. We also looked up the rosters of a few zoos in China, and I've attended two of them myself as well as the primary sanctuary for Chinese alligators.
  • I am fully aware that asking one person is not the best way to get this type of information, so I've tried to watch for community members who specifically identify as Chinese or have a similar language pattern and are advocating for Chinese animals. Many of the latter group don't stay long or post much. The golden snub-nosed monkey is a very common theme. I can't imagine anything else missing would have comparable star power. I'd say the second most common theme is bemoaning the lack of cervids, but they don't seem to be overly focused on any particular species. There are several good options on that front. I also see Chinese alligators and turtles come up a lot.
  • Someone else posted a breakdown of the percentage of players from a bunch of countries, and China was the highest at around 25-30%? Japan and Korea also made the list with at least 1% each.
  • Feel free to correct me on this if I misunderstood. The "From what I understand" bit was my disclaimer.

I mean other than the baboon I don’t think we’re getting any African monkeys anyway, but who knows they could surprise us.

What happens in the next pack is super important, if they see the community wanting more DLCS and the next dlc brings in a ton of revenue if they choose the right animals they may continue developing or they see the potential for a Planet Zoo 2. The problem with Planet Zoo 2 is that its not coming in years as they will be focusing on Planet Coaster 2 so I'm praying they leave if this is the final map with a ton of animals able to create clones for modders.

Plus, so far modders are doing a pretty good job of using the rigs they have to create really good mods like the new Vampire Squid, Tibetan Antelope, Sumatran Elephant, Yellow eyed penguin. So far im just wanting them to get down the animals that modders cant really do a good job with and bring them truly to life like the Pacific Walrus, Spider Monkey, Tree Kangaroo, Coati, Tamarins.

To be honest what I think planet zoo should release is atleast 4 more packs for this game with the packs being:
Equatorial Animal Pack:
  • Coquetries Sifaka {Main Headliner}
  • Hamadryads/Gelada
  • Honey badger
  • Secretary Bird
  • Black Howler monkey
  • Black Buck
  • Coati
  • Golden Lion Tamarin [WTE]

  • Nocturnal Animal Pack:
    • Aye-Aye {Headliner of the Pack}
    • Potto/ Pygmy Slow Loris
    • Serval
    • Kinkajou
    • African Civet
    • Southern Tamandua
    • Prehensile-Tailed Porcupine/Owl Monkey
    • Tokay Gecko/Naked Mole Rat
    • 20 Building pieces of Signs and Texts

    • Free Update Content
    • A new mechanic called the Nocturnal House where you can expand or change it to however you like with its own custom enclosure gates to put in your night loving creatures. You can customize the Nocturnal house with you being able to change the UV light color or how it looks.
      - You can also use past DLC and base game animals like the Aardvark, Kiwi, Porcupine or the Armadillo.
Island Animal Pack:
  • Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo
  • Short Beaked Echidna
  • Coquerel's Sifaka
  • Walrus
  • South Rock Hopper Penguin
  • Hawaiian Goose
  • Brown Pelican
  • Blue Iguana [E]
Keeper Collection Managers Pack
  • American Black Bear [Headliner of the Pack]
  • Great White Pelican
  • Mandarin Duck
  • Gelada
  • Geoffroy's spider monkey
  • African Leopard
  • Sea Otter
  • Aye-aye
  • Scarlet Ibis
  • Bush Dog
  • Greater Rea
  • Serval
  • Shoebill
  • Exhibit Creatures:
    • Jacksons Chameleon [EXHIBIT]
    • Macaw and Budgie [WTE]

[Now that I think of this this is pretty bad speculation lol]

Pelican and walrus and even the tree kangaroo and specially the coati only need some add ons in animations and behaviours and some modifications of already existing rigs, they are not as complexed as they seem to be. Just add something to the swan rig for the pelican beak/swalling animations, climbing and arboreal preference for a long-tailed tree-climbing quokka and literally any climbing animal with a long tail could serve as base for the coati.

Spider monkeys seem more complex and so do the secretary birds.

Another one i would like officially is the patagonian mara. Sure it can be made from capybara but it really behaves more like a small antelope with a rodent model.

I agree with you they need some special animations and needs to be official, in my opinion it kinda seems from a far eye as they like hop.

Walrus needs to be official, its way too hard and complex for a normal modder to do too.

The problem is we don't when Planet Zoo ends as Frontier is a very tight in info. All we know is that they knew it was going to take a long time which has never been done before in Planet Zoo history by revealing their is going to be a new pack in the comings months. This means 3 things.

Possible Outcomes:
1. Either this is the last or second to last pack and final pack and they are taking extra time as these animals are hard rigs to make and amazing textures.
2. They are making a large pack then before with 12-15 new habitat animals with some good rigs and good textures continuing the life span of planet zoo to 2025.
3. The development team are behind schedule and are just continuing packs with a month extra needed.
4. Something weird happens and frontier gives us a tapir reskin a Rhode island chicken and another caiman with a bunch of clones and then shut the door on us.
5. IDK?

Sorry I’m not gonna read every post.
We getting a frontier direct next week and any hope there could be an announcement of some sort?

Well the recent pattern is every 3 months and its only been 2 months but this can be the last DLC pack and be like Jurassic World Evolution 2 having a 2 month timespan with Secret being March 13 then 2 months later May 16th for the Park Managers. Best we could get is a teaser but if we get an announcement that means its the last DLC like how they did it in JWE2.

Yeah that's pretty much what was mentioned, the announcement has a slim chance since the steamdb is relatively quiet for an upcoming announcement and no exciting news for planet zoo is mentioned in the stream post so don't expect much. Console players will likely get their next bundle announcement since July was speculated for the next dlc release for them.
