DLC18 discussion and predictions

I assumethe announcement will come before the stream and they will talk just a little bit about it on stream. Really making time for the reveal, showing all animals and such seems like such a huge attention for what is probably just a normal DLC. That's creating too much hype

I'm looking forward to see what this DLC is about. I'm expecting pretty much the standard animal DLC, I don't think it's going to be anything bigger, much less a DLC filled with (flying) birds and full aquatic animals. If anything, after seeing what PC2 will include, I am convinced that it's a very high possibility that they'll use flying birds and aquatics as the main selling point for Planet Zoo 2. It would be smart, but at the same time I wish it would have been included in PZ already. It is what it is.

I just want to get it over with it, this whole ending of PZ on PC. Let's get this last (?) DLC out, roll out the update and fixes, and move on. I do have one thing I want to point out - does anyone think we'll get the Thememaker Toolkit for PZ? I know they released one for PC so I'm kind of hoping we also get one.

I haven't played PZ in months, and I am starting to feel excited again about playing it. I've played it so much since release, and I suppose I got bored with it. But this "finish" will definitely get me back into playing! Looking forward to the stream, I will be watching!

Hopefully the pack gets announced in 36 minutes, I think the most common time they announce this stuff is way early in the morning (at least for me EST) plus I accidentally woke up too early and now I can’t fall back asleep 😭

New/Old World has nothing to do with environment or biology. It's all to do with colonialism. "Old World" = regions precolonial Europeans were in regular contact with (Africa, Asia, the Middle East), "New World" = the parts of the world Europeans interacted with in the age of empires (the Americas, Oceania). Of course the existence of places like l'Anse aux Meadows in Newfoundland muddies the water, but that's generally what New World/Old World means.
It seems maybe about 1:3 on whether or not Oceania is included in Dictionary definitions of New World, with Western Hemisphere seen as a synonym on occasion, despite including European countries. Old World is also sometimes synonymised with Eastern Hemisphere.

It's a mess with no true consensus, as you might expect for 500 year old terms. I'm guessing each country's curriculum plays a part too.
  • Arguments for being New World: Later discovery by Europeans. Similar relationships with, and drastically poor outcomes for, native populations.
  • Arguments for being Old World: New Guinea and Australia being treated as an extension of South-East Asia.
  • Arguments for being Neither: Specifically the Americas was given the term New World in the 1400s. Old World refers to what was known since ancient times. Australia not seen as a land of gold or opportunity in the same way as the Americas.
It's a case of strict sense vs. wide sense for both terms, with both strict senses excluding Oceania.

In any case, I still would put the bias towards the loose Hemisphere synonymy.

Oceania 3: New Be-Guinea-ings is technically an option for a 3rd DLC I guess, but it's going well beyond copium:
