DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

To be completely honest i think the whole "there to represent india" breaks apart rather quickly.
Imo the most straightfoward conclusion to seeing an elephant on the cover art is that there is an elephant in the pack like it was with every other animal pack so far. So i think the most reasonable thing to think would be: elephant on the cover -> elephant in the pack -> has to be another subspecies since we already have the indian -> pack theme cant be india.

I think the elephants being there to represent india could still be the intend by Frontier, but imo that would not really be a smart move.
Like the elephants atleast equally argue against india than they do in favor of it.

So as much as i also dont want another elephant i think we all should expect a big, grey dud in the pack

Obviously we don't know, but it could easily be a Sri Lankan Elephant and still fit with the subcontinent theme, which as previously discussed is probably best marketed as an India Pack. Given the only time animals on key art ended up not being in the pack itself is from the Arctic Pack, many years ago, using a completely different art style... I'm also thinking that it's most likely a new elephant, unfortunately, but holding out hope that it's there to represent india

Side note, anyone remember when the Zookeeper Pack teaser came out, the prevailing assumption was that it was a Mountains Pack? Obviously we could be way off with this one as well, but my money is still on an India pack until proven otherwise

Tbh i think the bison in the arctic cover is far less of a "haha gotcha!" than people think.
That one was the very first dlc almost immediately after launch approaching 6 years ago. They probably didnt have a very clear idea yet about how they want to packs to look. Heck for all we know maybe the bison was originaly planed to be in the arctic dlc and they changed it last second.

So i dont think that one is any indicator almost 6 years and 19 DLCs of not doing that later

But for real, there's no reason, at all, to believe they're just there for 'art'. When has Frontier ever done that?
They've used ingame props and the zookeeper for placemaking before, I really don't think it's a big step between that and using base game animals as long as they're not featured prominently. And frankly, the elephants are not featured as prominently as other silhouette animals have been in the past. Like, if I were to make a Chinese Animal Pack I sure as hell would feature a silhouette of a giant panda in the background 🤷‍♂️

IDK, with the flamingo we had one animal that was as close as a clone as we could get since SEA and now people are convinced that Frontier is just going to do low effort packs and that we'll just get packs with a bunch of "clones". Had this art been released two years ago I'm sure most people's initial reaction wouldn't be that we were going to get another elephant species and the majority of people would have argued in the other direction. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt here.

Either way it's fine, we've got over 200 animals atm, I'll take what I get at this point 😂

Marketing a pack with a Sri Lankan elephant as an India pack may cause a diplomatic incident that better be avoided. Either give us an India pack without a new elephant (very reasonable), or call it South Asia and add another species from the subcontinent that doesn't also occur in India (very difficult.

I hope in one month we all laugh about this when we get this pack without any third elephant to be found

Probably other problem clone animals like tigers or lions though...

Anyway, why people want another crane? Crowned Cranes make sense, but in Asia there are pheasants, Pelicans, Ducks and others, why would you wish for another random clone crane? Realistic zoo builders probably want this to copy paste their local zoo, but what use is it to all other people?

If it is an India Pack and we get 1 bird, what would be your favorites? I think my top 5 would be:
1. Nicobar Pigeon
2. Spoon-Billed Sandpiper
3. Himalayan Monal
4. Red-Breasted Goose
5. Common Merganser

I've read a lot of interesting things and some not so interesting.
I'm not convinced that frontier decided to put the indian elephant in the key art just to let us know that the theme of the pack is india or asia... so I'm assuming it's a pack species...

Let me start by pointing out that India and Sri Lanka are on the same tectonic plate, the Indian Plate.
In terms of world regions, South Asia is India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan.
I think the term South Asia pack might be confusing. However, the “Indian Animal Pack” is more sellable and identifiable among the 19 previous packs.
Now, if a new elephant subspecies, to the Sri Lankan elephant, and we have to see with the other animals in the pack, then the term “Indian Safari” is less problematic.
The term “safari” is actually used more in Africa, because that's where people want to see wild animals, but it also exists in Asia, especially in South Asian national parks.

I find it hard to get used to the idea of having another bird, especially if it's a cloned crane.
I've been waiting to see more primates in the game for years, and every time it's the same thing: there are hardly any. I'm very happy with the lion-tailed macaque, but I'd love to see a second one, to represent India.
Personally, I prefer the Asiatic lion, which is more endangered than its African cousin and also less well-known. I'm not in favor of yet another small species of carnivore.
Besides, with the evolution of animal models since the game's release, I may never use the Indian elephant again if we have another elephant.

It still might mean those elephants are just statues as a building peace, even tho I doubt but this is my hope :D

In our national zoo we have indian elephant zone with a lot of replicas of cultural statues of them to bring pieces of worlds together. You can see they are worn out in some places so people are using them as real ones :D (there is also elephant riding simulator machine xDDD) Although, those statues are much much smaller, in a height of a tall person max. And those siluetes looks well sized for real animal.

I do want a damoiselle crane though, just as much as i want a grey crowned crane.

What i don't want is another basic looking crane.

Grey crowned crane, damoiselle and blue crane, even maybe the hooded crane, all have very distinctive looks from the red crowned crane so i prefer them over other crane species.

But yeah, for an asian pack i preioritize pheasants, storks and other types of birds since we already have a crane from Asia. That said i wouldn't be mad at all of we get the damoiselle, but i would be dissapointed if we get the sarus.

Sarus crane visually isnt really anything super interesting, but it has the advantage of having a huge range. Not only india, but also south east asia and australia, so its a bird one can get alot of mileage out of.

I mean id also prefer a pelican or groundfowl but i for sure take the crane over no bird

Assuming this is an India pack literally any bird they could give us would be a good addition except the Lesser Flamingo which are actually found in India(New worst case scenario we get a bird but its another flamingo). The Demoiselle is more unique so I guess I would prefer that but I would have little issue with getting the Sarus instead.
