DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

I'm sorry but the sarus crane is just as boring as getting another flamingo. It looks almost the same as the red crowned crane only uglier.
What did the sarus crane do to you lol 😭

There's a huge difference between those two concepts that make a huge difference; one is a region, the other is a country.
South Asia doesn't really change much in terms of species since India makes up MOST of it. Kinda just opens up some options for some Himalayan animals iirc (even though some of those still range a little into India anyhow)

Demoiselle cranes would've been a better example to provide
That would be peak, but i don't trust Frontier will make them. Sarus crane sounds more likely though.

haha nothing really, i know they look different but body plan is pretty much the same. I'm just tired of getting the same birds over and over. Swan and kiwi were exceptions, and most of the ratites look very different from each other plus they are siginificant each in their own right so they had to come, but with so many options out there for birds that would work as habitat and us missing some basic bird types like ducks, pelicans, storks, ibises, etc. i just don't want another boring clone.

Edit: also there are other crane species that deserve to be in the game before the sarus crane (grey crowned crane for instance)

Generalising India to encompass the whole Indian Subcontinent for a snappier marketing name isn't a unrealistic desicion
That's where I'm at. It's likely more accurate to say it's the subcontinent but the average person wouldn't know what "Subcontinent Animal Pack" would mean (I only know because of cricket). Calling it India Animal Pack would make more sense as a marketing approach

I actually like the idea of getting Sarus cuz unlike red crowned, sarus is both more hot tolerant making it a ideal counterpart from RC, while also stretching it range all the way down to Australia, making it our potential first australian wandering bird.

If I had to pick another similar-looking crane, both the Brolga and Siberian Cranes would be far more interesting imo (former because its better Australia rep imo, latter because the ugliness kinda works in its favour). Although the Grey Crowned Crane would obviously be the best option for a second crane.

In a perfect world i would like all cranes in the game, but we don't even know how much more packs we will get. This might be the last one for all we know. I much rather get a pheasant or duck or a sturk than red crane number 2.

Which makes me wonder... which would be the "high effort" animal in this pack?

Tbh i don't think Americas had any... not really if we are being objective. Bush dogs are mostly based of the tassie devil with some tweaks, and saki just has some arragement to the tail placement. Makes me wonder if there is going to be a more "unique" animal in this pack at all... but if there is one, which one you guys think it would be? I can't think of anything that it isn't a clone in a way, even among my most wanted animals all are pretty much clones: blackbuck (antelope/gazelle), chital (red deer), muntjac (dik dik), gaur (buffalos), mongoose (meerkat), hanuman langur (proboscis monkey), lion tailed macaque (macaques and baboons), ratel (wolverine), damoiselle crane (red crowned crane), ducks (swan), etc.

I hope is something like a pheasant or a pelican or a stork... sure they could be based on the peacock, swan and crane respectively, but would need quiet the work on them to be good (pheasants tails and feather arragements and displays, pelican's beak and deep swimming, stork posture and movements, etc)

For India specifically, I'd say black-headed ibises would need a fair amount of work to be made properly.

Nah. They are coming unfortunally, i just count this one as a 6 animal pack instead of 7 i guess.
I don't think so. Probably are part of the Background (Or even as a false clue that could mislead us)

Even then, If I've learned anything from all DLCs, it's that most of them tend to have these kinds of Animals (specially Mammals): Ungulates and Carnivores. Very few don't have them.

This could be my ideal DLC for this theme (I hope it comes true, or at most 70% of my pack)

  1. Honey Badger (confirmed)
  2. Lion-Tailed Macaque (confirmed, kind of)
  3. Gaur
  4. Blackbuck
  5. Fishing Cat
  6. Hanuman Langur
  7. Axis Deer
Aside from the fact that I want to see of them, it also makes up for it compared to the last DLC. For example 3 ungulates to balance the one ungulate that was in Americas Pack (Bighorn Sheep). Sorry for the Asiatic Lion fans, but I see them unnecessary, I see another lion subespecies as redundant, in addition to another Big Cat. A small cat is better, it adds diversity

I would like to see King Cobra, but as Habitat Animal instead of Exhibit, but I think it won't be possible,

Like I said, I hope get most of them right (specially Blackbuck and Fishing Cat)

But for real, there's no reason, at all, to believe they're just there for 'art'. When has Frontier ever done that?
People are pulling straws from the Arctic pack cover art to fuel their denial.

What they definetly haven't done before is place false clues, so even if for some miracle they are not part of the roster they have been deliberatly put there to hit at theming at the very least.

But for real, there's no reason, at all, to believe they're just there for 'art'. When has Frontier ever done that?
Hence why I said “could be”

And no frontier has never done that but they’ve never done a lot of things they’ve done this last year. Before zookeeper it was unheard of of showing the pack art before the pack itself, before Americas it was unheard of of showing 5 animals in a pack art. Frontier doesn’t really have a clear pattern anymore of what they’re doing so maybe this is an example of something new they’re doing.

Maybe the elephant is to symbolize India better, or maybe they thought it would be easier for the community to guess that it is India if they put the Indian elephant in there which would create more hype compared to other packs. Like I said who knows. It could very well be that a third elephant is included, but I’m not ruling out the possibility of it being the Indian elephant regardless of any previous patterns.

I have to admit... even though India seems obvious, the big focus on the river and the safari lodge has me kind of confused. Honey badger and lion tailed macaque doesn't fit at all with a riverside or river safari or freshwater or whatever pack. I guess india is well known for the Ganges as well...
Where are you seeing a safari lodge?

I don't want to guarantee that its India, but I also don't understand why people are doubting it so much. 2 headliners are from India. Elephant in the background is an INDIAN elephant (either new subspecies or the indian elephant, either way it represents the country), the river represents the Ganges or waterways in India, and India/Asia architecture in the background. I know some of the pack arts before have gave us a run for our money but this one just seems as straightforward as it can be. Even the colour is similar to Asia like the SEA pack that was purple very similarly. Everything to me points to India so thats what I'm sticking with for now.
It's another Zookeeper pack situation. What we got was Zookeeper but that same exact key art could have 100% reasonably represented a Highlands pack. So while that's not what it wound up being... You really can't fault people for thinking it might have been a Highlands pack given the species it hinted at, the general vibe, etc. Even the scenery on that one could have been interpreted as representing highlands!

If this pack drops and it's something random? Sure, fine. But from the evidence we have in-hand it's 100% reasonable to assume it's India and TBH, it's kinda weird to not see that as the #1 option at this point.
