For people who just like getting ungulates or really any animals, the african forest elephant would of gotten the exact same reaction of "cool, a new elephant". Theres no justification or hopping around points to prove to the rather obsessed playerbase why an elephant was better than this other animal. It's a new elephant, a new smaller elephant, great I'll treat it like the Hippopotamus and pygmy Hippopotamus, I don't care if its a subspecies or species.
This is exactly what I’ve been thinking about the new elephant. I’ve seen so, so many people on here campaigning for a second zebra, a second giraffe, a third tiger, more wolves… we got our second flamingo and it was met with neat-unanimous praise, and plenty of people were down for the Asiatic lion before this pack’s roster got revealed.
I’ll admit that I tend to see those animal choices as redundant and uninteresting, but I would have preferred almost all of the above to a new elephant subspecies of all things. It just seems like an out-of-touch pick on Frontier’s end, which is sadly not a big surprise…

I didn't want it by any means, but ever since it was revealed it has been growing on me. I never liked the Indian elephant so I'm a huge fan of this one
Actually outside of myself and some others a lot of people did not like the American Flamingo, especially over birds like the roseate spoonbill
Yeah I remember finding it funny that one of my most wanted birds, a low effort reskin as many called it, was added before the highly desired American birds like Roseate spoonbill, wild turkey, or scarlet Ibis.

You can't deny, though, that there was no outrage when the flamingo was included in the last pack, no passionate debates on whether it was a "wasted slot" or not. Although that could just be because we're all a bit desperate for birds lol.
I think we all kinda knew it was inevitable and that is was much more likely that any other of the pink birds. Frontier doesn't do oddball bird choices. So we kind of accepted the flamingo was very likely. On top of that it was a true improvement from the base game flamingo and it was a bird for the Américas that had none at the time. Plus it did have a following before it was added. So it had a lot more going for it that the elephant hasn't.I was one of those people actually
There is still a part of me hoping the Americas could get more birds, but I’m admittedly not taking any bets rn lol

- It was a new species
- It was a significant improvement in quality over the greater flamingo
- It was visually distinct
- It gave representation to another part of the world
- It enriches our zoos offering a real choice that might be more realistic for certain locations

Those flower pieces are hella ugly though.
I'm starting to think all the festive decorations, flowers, lights... were supposed to be part of the final DLC (zookeepers), like a global party. But due to the recent changes, we're now getting the festive decorations spread out, since they were probably already finished. It's likely the same happened with several animals like getting the badger in a asia pack. Maybe when they run out of those we get pieces with new themes or maybe they will just bring back the exihibit animals
