DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Yes yes yes yes.

Let's go with Eastern Animal pack! (since America pack could count as a Western animal pack)

But let's be realistici with it. Looking at what the last pack roster is going to be is clear if we keep getting content it will be full of easy to make clones and maybe one or two more complex animals. So having that in mind...

Africa seems to be next. Last year Oceania and Eurasia got most of the spotlight. Africa got more with ZKs but still has a couple of popular animals missing.

Probably not an all Africa pack but with at least half the roster.

So...

1. Honey badger
2. Blackbuck
3. Grey crowned crane
4. Grey langur or vervet monkey or mantled guereza
5. Greater kudu or giant eland or Serval
6. Tree kangaroo (the high effort animal)
7. Mallard duck

This is a guess, not a wish. My personal picks would be different:

1. Honey badger
2. Blackbuck
3. Secretary bird
4. Mandarin duck
5. Mantled guereza or or de brazzas monkey or lion tailed macaque
6. Great white pelican
7. Short beaked echidna

  • Nilgai
  • Blackbuck
  • Serval
  • Nile Crocodile
  • Mantled Guereza
  • Grey Crowned Crane
  • Short-Beaked Echidna
  • Oops! All Scenery
Ended up being a bit optimistic but aside from the echidna this is pretty realistic. My personal idea would look like this:
  • Nilgai
  • Blackbuck
  • Black-Headed Ibis
  • Secretary Bird
  • West African Crocodile
  • Mantled Guereza
  • Matschie's Tree-Kangaroo
  • Ball Python (Exhibit)

the console edition has all DLC packs from before 2024. Oceania and Eurasia just released yesterday. This article gives a timeline for when each pack was released. Not really sure why some packs in the console column are unmarked (unless I'm missing something).
My thinking for the future is thus:
  • Western Animal Pack - April 15th
  • Barnyard + Zookeeper Bundle - May 27th (approx.)
  • Final Animal Pack - October 14th (approx.)
  • Western + Final Bundle - October 14th (approx, console players finally get parity with PC!)
Yeah, the packs not being marked as console but being listed as part of a bundle is what was confusing me which is why I was wondering if they planned the bundles for the packs existing when console came out but not all have come out. I've updated my original list now that I've seen the release windows for the packs. And added my theory on release windows for the final packs for console.

I’m curious how the 2025 DLC structure will work now that PC and console are almost caught up with each other. If we keep on the current schedule, Barnyard and Zookeepers bundle will be available for purchase on console the last week of May. So either the Americas pack comes out for purchase on console by itself in July or, and I think it’s more likely, they’d hold it and release it as a new bundle for later in the year with DLC20. DLC20 would mark the first new DLC for all platforms and would be the first time all players would get to experience a new pack together.

With an Americas pack finally confirmed for DLC19, this one becomes difficult to predict again. If it's the last one im going for a Worldwide DLC, if it's not the last one my bet would be on another African themed/Safari DLC with a secretary bird, serval, some more african antilopes (impala, kudu?)

I'm hoping for Coastal, Safari, Islands, Rainforests, Even a Barnyard 2.0
Coastal
  1. Green Sea Turtle
  2. Musk Ox
  3. Walrus
  4. Sea Otter
  5. Puffin
  6. Great White Pelican
  7. Rockhopper Penguin
Safari
  1. Serval
  2. Common Eland
  3. Blackbuck
  4. Honey Badger
  5. Secretary Bird
  6. Grey-crowned Crane
  7. Nile Crocodile
Islands
  1. Sumatran Tiger
  2. Sulawesi Bear Cuscus
  3. Japanese Serow
  4. etc...
Rainforests
  1. Two Monkeys (One for Old and New World Each)
  2. Victoria Crowned Pigeon
  3. Reeve's Muntjac
  4. American Black Bear*
  5. etc...
Children's Zoo (Barnyrad 2.0)
Pyagora Goat, Jacob Sheep, Coati, Genet or Civet, Mongoose, etc...

I'm feeling a safari/savanna pack next idk. To be fair Zookeepers helped in that area quite a bit, but our last Africa centric pack was Summer 2023, every other continent will have had a second pack dedicated to it since then.

I really hope you’re wrong because no other continent has such widespread representation already. We don’t need anything else from Africa. Call it a wrap on the whole place.

I could see a generic safari pack, but not Africa based. Like, see, we could get several animals that live in open plains from all over the world.
However, just the same, I wouldn't want it because I feel like we have a ton of those. I'd much rather get something like a forests pack, which would have temperate and tropical animals mixed in

Okay so here is how I see things happening now or at least a mix of what I think could happen and what I wish.

I think we're gonna get one more "classic" DLC for the 20th. As many said, a safari pack could be an easy possibility. If it's the case I'm hoping to have at least the following species:
  • Nile Croc
  • Serval
  • A monkey (Olive Baboon or Mantled Guereza)
  • An antelope (Eland or Kudu)
  • Honey Badger
Except for the Guereza, I don't think it's asking for too much. Now if we want to go to 8 species I would add:
  • Secretary bird or the Grey Crowned Crane
  • Banded Mongoose or Rock Hyrax
  • Bat-Eared Fox (or an exhibit but I feel like they've been forgotten)
EDIT: it's true that I restricted the Safari pack to Africa but doing a mix with other continents is a possibility.

Other themes are possible. One that I really like but I don't really see happening is the Coastal pack. RIP my beloved Walrus.

After the last "classic" DLC, I can see the game ending with a bigger All Around the World pack. 12 species would be a nice number to end with, 16 would be even better. Above that I don't see it happening so I'm definitely not expecting a pack with one species corresponding to each of the previous DLCs.
In an All Around the World pack, here is what I'd love. Warning: the roster is definitely challenging the dev team.
  • Arctic: Musk Ox
  • NA: American Black Bear or Wapiti, depending on what's coming in the 19th DLC
  • SA: anything popular that could not be in the coming DLC (Ocelot, Coati, Bush Dog, any Monkey)
  • Europe: Alpine Marmot
  • North Africa: Aoudad
  • Sub-saharan Africa: not much missing if they do a Safari pack before.
  • East Asia: Golden Snub Nosed Monkey or Raccoon Dog
  • India: Blackbuck or Lion-Tailed Macaque
  • South-East Asia: Sulawesi Crested Macaque or Delacour's Langur
  • Oceania/Australia: Echidna or Tree Kangaroo
These are a few ideas. Throw some birds here and there. Find a way to make it to 12 as long as these 10 regions are represented. I know I've left out central asia and Middle East but I'm not much inspired by these. I feel like Middle-East and North Africa share a lot of biodiversity.

I don't care what the theme is. I just hope we finally get a Tree Kangaroo and maybe a Civet and Echidna. Other animals I'd also really like are Sea Otters, Kinkajous, Bush Dogs, Tanukis, Opossums, Mongooses, Cuscus, and any species of Fur Seal.
We have the same taste in animals :) my top wishes would be all of those, in a slightly different order. Plus a squirrel and a lagomorph. Civets are so cool and beautiful and not mentioned nearly often enough.

Animals i REALLY want

  • Black howler monkey
  • Squirrel monkey
  • Golden lion tamarin
  • Southern tamandua
  • Blackbuck
  • Grey crowned crane
  • Secretary bird
  • A pelican
  • A cool duck
  • A pheasant (golden or argus or reeves being my favorites)
    - Rockhopper penguin
  • African jungle monkey (guereza or de brazza's are top picks)
    - Golden snub nosed monkey
  • Sea otter
  • Honey badger
  • Gerenuk
  • Greater kudu
  • Musk ox
  • Short beaked echidna
  • Perentie
  • Argentinian tegu
  • Red footed tortoise
    - Arrau river turtle
  • Green anaconda
  • Nile crocodile

Some more than other of course. Still now way they can all fit into under one theme (maybe the explorations theme and some under safari) and i would need like 4 more animal packs lol

Whatever it is I really hope we don't end up with another caprid taking up a spot. Sorry musk ox fans but I'm getting so sick of them lmao.

In terms of actual speculation, though, I genuinely have no idea anymore. Wishlist-wise, now that Frontier finally doesn't seem totally opposed to having two birds in an animal pack (albeit two "clones" but still), a coastal pack (pelicans, seaducks, my beloved shorebirds <3) or even another Africa pack (secretary, guineafowl, marabou, grey crowned crane, ground hornbill) could turn out pretty good if they come with some more feathers than usual. Rainforests could be nice, too, since I have a feeling this next pack isn't totally gonna patch up Latin America, unfortunately (plus I still want my Papuan trio of the echidna, tree roo, and crowned pigeon lol).

Whether those themes are actually likely to have more than one bird is another question entirely - I'm just wishing here, not getting my hopes up.

The caprine situtation wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so much repetitions. We have 7 caprines, and it could be instantly more unique if it was this lineup:
  • Muskox
  • Alpine Chamois
  • Takin
  • Alpine Goat
  • Hill Radnor Sheep
  • Japanese Serow
  • Mountain Goat
