DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

So, since we don't have much to talk about, I will spout an idea. What do y'all think the chances are of an exhibit animal pack, and how would you do it? I personally see them adding about maybe 12 exhibits, but who knows? Also, no birds sense froitner is evil, so with that said.

Yuck... you could replace the picture with a box... doesn't matter what you put in it, from any real distance, that's all you would see.

I really doubt that was the case. It doesn't make a lot of financial sense to continue maintaining a server for an obsolete game. Like PZ1's Franchise Mode isn't going to run indefinitely when PZ2 comes out.
In my opinion overwatch 2 actually is the obsolete game because its pretty much unanimously agreed upon to just be a downgrade from the first.
Idk if they deliberately closed ow1 so people switch to ow2, but im 100% certain that the first game would still be far and way the more popular game of the two if they hadnt closed it.

I stopped playing OW a while before OW2, I mostly stopped playing as the game started catering to more competitive players and I was expecting a casual hero shooter.

Man it’s been quiet around here, I guess it makes sense though, new DLC came out already. We know more is coming, but most of the major themes have been taken. On top of Frontier clearly prioritizing different animals than what we expect/ want.
I thought we’d be seeing some new habitat builds for the new animals. I guess without a meaningful amount of new scenery pieces people didn’t feel as inspired to come back and build. Animal packs are great but new scenery makes building so much more fun.

I think that’s a big part of it. I haven’t really been inspired by the last two packs, and I think that’s because (personal opinion inbound) ZooKeeper and Americas had bad scenery IMO. They have pieces I will use, they aren’t awful scenery pieces. But I think my issue is ZooKeeper’s generic party theme isn’t very useful to me, and America’s scenery is a lot of the same pieces over and over again!

That’s also not to even get into the animals. Listen, I’m so happy North America finally got a single bird species, and South America now has two. But if anyone were to look at me and say: “These are boring birds and clones”. I can’t really say they are wrong. That’s not to even get into the other recent animals either. I’m happy Frontier listened to us and gave South America another go around. I’m sure (when I get back into PZ again) I’m gonna use the new animals and enjoy them.

I just think that unfortunately at this point in the game Frontier needs to add things that are “new”. And while a good amount of people didn’t like it, Barnyard was at least “new”. Yeah it added to the ungulate problem a bit more, it only had one bird and no rabbit, but it gave us a new group of animals, building theme, and the free update let us make a new type of habitat (sort of).

I think at this point a lot of the experience players who have played Planet a zoo for a long time need things that are more enticing to get back into playing again. While the new Americas pack is great for building regional diversity (and that makes it a necessary pack despite it all) it is unfortunately the newest pack in a 5 year old game. If the Americas pack came out 4 years ago, as it is now with no change, I’m guessing people would like it a lot more. Expectations are different now, and the issue is Frontier either doesn’t have the resources, or is unwilling, to add things to the game that the community is hoping or wishing for.

So long story short, Frontier should give me birds. Do it Frontier. PLEASE DO IT NOW AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA THE WALKTHROUGH EXHIBIT IS RIGHT THERE JUST ADD A HANDFUL OF FEATHERY DUDES TO IT

For me its indeeed a big part the scenery, which i think frontier unfortunately really fumbled the bag with this time around, probably the weakest out of any pack

Barnyard, Zookeeper, and Americas packs all needed way better scenery. Who is taking the time to make custom piñatas? I’m shocked we didn’t get an adobe wall pieces building set at the very least. I realize the mud set is close, but I want it without that zebra-esque strip on it so it’s more universal.

I'm the exact opposite, couldn't care less for scenery pieces. I really wish they didn't replace exhibit animals

You can make the stripes the same color as the rest of the wall and it disappears

For me it's always been the big "flaw" with animal packs in general.

Packs like that just have to come with something that changes the game drastically enough that you're not just making the exhibits ahead of time when the animals are announced and going back to business as usual after that. That can be scenery; but it frankly doesn't have to be for those who really don't care about scenery.

Like, going back to the North America Animal Pack, the amount of scenery got was extremely limited. But; the new height maps made making new starter maps easier. The new barriers made it so we had a lot more versatility in how we were building our guest areas and opened doors that were closed before. The educator stands allowed us to further explore educational options and rebuild entire sections and make them functional. Etc.

Scenery can do the trick as well, and Planet Zoo is undeniably a zoo building game at its core so it's obvious that it does for most players, but as you pointed out if the scenery isn't meaningful then it does nothing for the longevity of a DLC. I'm willing to give Zookeeper the benefit of the doubt because it did come with a bunch of nice pieces; but Barnyard and Americas' was too niche to really do much long term.

Barnyard an zookeeper also have actually 80 ish different pieces, yeah not all of them are super usefull or versatile but atleast you get a bunch of different stuff. With americas the majority of the piece count is wasted on doing pretty much the same thing over and over again. Really, no clue what went wrong there

I am a huge fan of the Ginkgo and Apple trees though! They nailed those.

I mean, "obsolete" isn't really a matter of opinion.

Oh yeah, fully agree on that one; but I voiced that opinion enough so I didn't feel like repeating it and sounding like a broken record lol 😂
