DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

I Am Surprised That In This Whole Country Themed Pack Discussion No One Brought Up Madagascar. It's Pretty Similar To Australia And India Where The Pack Could Refer To The Country Or The Continent/Subcontinent/Island. And Despite The Lack Of Fossa And Coquerel's Sifaka It Still Could Have A Decent Roster For A Pack Like The One Below.View attachment 430957
Are Zebus not more like an Indian thing?
In generel for me personally a madagascar pack does not bring much for me. But I would never say no to a duck, so....

No One Brought Up Madagascar.
It used to come up all the time, but the game already has the fossa and four lemurs. The only Malagasy species with much community traction now are the aye-aye and radiated tortoise (amusingly your concept contains neither). The Nile crocodile is popular, too, but doesn't require "Madagascar" as a theme, and the duck fans don't seem to be concerned about which duck they get (and besides, the white-faced whistling duck is basically the South American and African version of the common mallard - it's everywhere).

I don't think Madagascar works as an animal pack anymore. You could squeeze another Malagasy animal into a second Africa Pack, of course, though - something like the ring-tailed vontsira would be neat, or, as mentioned, the tortoise or aye-aye.

Just wanted to ask as I'm terrible at remembering these trends - what time would we reasonably expect the DLC20 trailer to drop? I seem to recall it was a Tuesday (?), so maybe the 17th or 24th?

They would not choose the Asiatic Lion. Base game cover has already a lion on it.

Lol, you guys really overestimate importance of the cover animal. It is there to look good and catch attention, but no-one really decides if they buy the pack based on what species they chose for the cover…cmon… “oh, they chose the animal that I do not like for the cover? Yeah, not buying the pack.” That is silly.
Yeah, the cover art isnt that much of importance. For example, everyone was complaining about seeing a coyote but Americas ended up being a pretty good pack.

Interesting you leapt to Madagascar, given India is the most recent land connection (back in the Mid Cretaceous), and people first got there by boat, originating from southern Asia.

In terms of common suggestion/meta-wishlist relevance, Madagascar isn't great, several other African countries have better potential. Tanzania for example could have 2/3 African species in the top 102 (21/29, excluding the Mallard, Gelada, Aye-aye, De Brazza's Guenon, Giant Eland, Barbary sheep, Radiated Tortoise, & Grevy's zebra).

In terms of Madagascar picks, I like the Giant Coua. It's only in a single zoo, and fairly subdued compared to it's less terrestrial cousins, but it seems a decent supplementary animal for Lemur exhibits that isn't a Lemur. The duck and zebu do the same I suppose, but widespread species and domestics hit a bit different.

If Madagascar were to get an Animal Pack, it should 100% be modelled after the Grasslands Animal Pack given how many distinctive small animals the island has. I'd probably do something like this:
  • Aye-Aye
  • Nile Crocodile
  • Fanaloka
  • Hawk's Sportive Lemur
  • White-Faced Whistling Duck
  • Giant Coua
  • Hammerkop
  • Radiated Tortoise (Exhibit)
  • Panther Chameleon (Exhibit)
  • Madagascar Giant Day Gecko (Exhibit)
  • Madagascar Hissing Cockroach (Exhibit)
  • Black-Eared Mantella (Exhibit)

I doubt they're ever going to add hamerkop... From my own observations, I've mostly seen them either in flight or roosting in high places.
I feel like yellow-billed stork would be a bit more feasible... They also fly a lot, but compared to hamerkop they spend more time on the ground, especially near the water.

I think a more viable alternative to a madagascar pack would be a more general islands pack, altough that one doesnt seem particularly likely either.
Well i guess since Frontier apperently deceided to milk PZ maybe, atleast i think it could be very cool.
An Islands pack would 100% come with MORE Southeast Asian representation... But if it included any kind of smaller mammals then I'd be all for it.
My ideal roster would be:
• aye-aye
• nene
• Goodfellow's tree kangaroo
• Luzon giant cloud rat
• radiated tortoise
• Celebes crested macaque
• idk probably an ungulate?

If this is really an India pack I would crave China pack even more than ever.

What do you think about this roster:

Golden snub nosed monkey
Racoon dog
Mandarin duck
Golden phesant
Père David’s deer
Yellow throated marten
Chinese alligator
