DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

I think looking at a release around july, august, up to october is still on the table. They just teased earlier this time. At least in the Unlocked.
As I like to say: everything is possible, but I don't think they would tease something now, that should come out in fall. I really think it will be mid to end June.
Of course, it's surprising as America is still kinda new. And teasing something earlier is also ok, but teasing something, that will come out in months? Thats kinda strange.

That wouldn't be very smart... Why tease something now that would reléase in 4 months, specially considering we are not getting more info before release (at least that's been the case with the latests packs for now). Maybe You could stretch it to July but i doubt it would be beyond end of June.

I think also a caveat is that you are all talking about zoos having regional zones etc, whereas in my experience of (generally old, and/or started with a small footprint) european zoos there's much more a sense that they just put species in where they have room in the original plans?

Like, a lot off (animal X) goes here because this enclosure was either specifically designed to accomodate them or happened to be where we can fit said enclosure in.

Call me an optimist and insane (both true), but if we get a DLC in June or July, I could see a bigger, more exciting update coming up. Nothing crazy like free flying, but stuff more like possibly a carousel and/or playground stuff, maybe improving the exhibit system with small sizes (and combining them), things like that.
Heck, give us remodeled animals, too (not as likely, but never say never)

That was true for a long time, but many zoos are modernizing and staring to work with sections. Same goes for theming. Inearlier days, a bit of grass and a moat was enough for an enclosure. Nowadays zoos focus on an all around expirience for the visitor, so they start to theme their sections more and more. Hence why I never understood the "but zoos don't theme like themeparks, the building pieces are usleless" argument. If we want to build realistic zoos down the line we need theming, we need "area animals" etc.

Plus, some people want top build their home town low budget zoos. And those are mostly local animals. And well, for people from india, that is indeed indian animals.

So You are saying (hoping) the elephant is a remaster that comes with the update. I don't buy that theory but would be better.

I think Frontier has done a very good job with this in the past. Balancing themed and more generic pieces, maybe not from the very beginning but definitely from Africa and Europe onwards.
Americas is really the only one in years where i think they kinda failed at this. Here the scale between heavily themed stuff and generic pieces is of imo (and they wasted alot of the piece count on repetition and dublicates, but that besides the point)

I would Not worry about a June Release until next tuesday at least. If I remember right WE Had to wait about 2 weeks Last Time after the First teaser. Or even a bit more. And the Pack was Released one week after the announcement. An announcement next tuesday would still perfectly fit to the Release time Points of Summer DLC on Tuesday within the week of Midsummer.

I don't see a scenario where DLC releases later than June. Teasing key art and then just doing nothing for a month would be an error. If it was coming in July or later why not wait to tease the art until a later livestream?

Very fair to assume we get an announcement at some point early next week with the release coming on Tuesday, the 17th.

Things are moving so fast for this DLC that we almost forgot about our dear friend. Luckily he's not alone.

Are they that uninterested in bothering with South America properly? Are the most popular animals from there that difficult to make? Do they have some data that shows them that focusing on that region doesn't pay off? What's going on?
I’ll throw my hat in the ring for this one:
I don’t think Frontier focuses on South America because a lot of the biodiversity is for animals that are not as easy to implement into the game, or are at least animals Frontier can’t currently accommodate.

I’ll be honest, we have most of the big ticket SA animals from a general public perspective. Sure, we all know we need the Patagonian Mara, but PZ also markets to casual animal lovers. Joe Schmoe doesn’t know what a Patagonian Mara even is, but he does know what a capybara is!

I think a big issue is what is primarily the main focus on Zoo displays for South America? Tropical South America, basically the Amazon and any of the extended rainforests surrounding it. The grasslands of South America would be second, but there is a large gap between the two.

So, for SA what does that leave us:
  1. For large mammals: we got most of the big cats, canids, camelids (domestic but point still stands), giant anteater, and capybara. That’s gonna be the main focus for a lot of players, and this is the best represented part of South America.
  2. Small mammals: we got the armadillo, but could definitely use another rodent. We even got the most famous sloth species in the WTE.
  3. Primates/ climbing animals: the capuchin and Saki are the two new world monkey species. Could we get a howler or squirrel monkey? Sure. Would the spider monkey potentially take too much effort? Maybe. Is the climbing system in game janky, prone to glitches, and Frontier doesn’t typically focus on the climbing? Unfortunately.
  4. Habitat birds: its Frontier, we all know we are out of luck. Maybe it’s marketing, maybe it’s due to some unknown factor, but Frontier very infrequently adds habitat birds. Still hoping for a duck though.
  5. Habitat reptiles: we got the caimans. Like habitat birds we might be out of luck for a “new” animal like the river turtle. Maybe we could get the tegu.
  6. Exhibit animals: we have a half decent amount, but the system is abandoned at this point.
  7. Any flying birds: lmao, lol even. Don’t expect a macaw, toucan, or harpy Eagle anytime soon.
  8. Any fish: lmao, lol even. Don’t expect a catfish, arapaima, or river stingray anytime soon. Or piranhas, angelfish, etc.
So a continent famous for its biodiversity is lacking in monkeys, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates. Guess what animals Frontier typically don’t focus on? All of those. Maybe they could bite the bullet and add them? Or maybe there are stuff going on behind the scenes that makes this more difficult than we realize.

Unfortunately PZ is about Charismatic megafauna, everything else is secondary. Unfortunately South America is more known for its other animals, and has less charismatic megafauna. Considering the exhibit box, and WTE won’t see much more I think this hurts South America more than other continents too.

I think this is the main reason. The bread and butter of SA are the birds, insects and monkeys. Birds and insects, we all know why those aren't in. Monkeys are popular animals to watch, but I don't think they are as popular with the average player when adding to a video game like PZ. They require more complicated habitats to build for(trees, climbing rigs, etc.). The climbing mechanics can be jankey, with animals frequently being boxed back to the entrance - even on Frontier blueprints. All that combined and it's not surprising that here on the Forums the Coyote was blasted while the Saki got praise, but away from here it was actually the opposite. The Saki was the "meh" pick and the Coyote and Bighorn got a lot of enthusiasm because they are decent-sized, well-recognized animals.

Most people want recognizable animals, and now that we got most of those, they want cool animals(which usually means bigger animals that are adjacent to ones they know - such as Asiatic Lion - or something that is striking(Saiga) or colorful(Golden Lion Tamarin) to catch their eye.

There are still some SA animals that would have strong appeal(such as GLT, Howler or Spider Monkey), but without aviaries or any new exhibit animals, I wouldn't expect much more.
