DLC20 Discussion (maybe, but why not?)

Hanuman Langur would be great, there is a shared enclosure with them and Asiatic Black Bears in Ostrava Zoo, would be nice to be able to recreate that. Although I believe the Black Bears are coded as a predator in game, doubt Frontier would change that.

Snap, all this monkey talk. We could use a more standard monkey for Africa. Mandrills and baboons don't cut it, because yes they're monkeys, but not "monkeys."

Here's a crackerjack idea:
  1. Black-and-white colobus monkey (I believe there's a red colobus, too. I'd personally prefer it for distinct looks)
  2. Any 1 of the grey langurs
  3. Squirrel monkey
  4. Howler monkey

Not the best selection, but at least brings the primates up a lot
As much as I love Lion-Tailed Macaques and Honey Badgers, I think I’d honestly rather have this lineup for the next pack 😭

And if not with the bear, if the pack gets a Chital, a Hanuman langur would fit perfectly for an Indian habitat, along with the peacock :D

Tamarins?

Monkeys on it's own are a group that a still lacking a lot :D This pack does bring a monkey and hopefully another one? Still SA lacks a lot of monkeys. Tamarins, spider and howler monkeys :)

Good gods, I've just seen the new gameplay trailer for JWE3 - of everything, the new ramp feature looks amazing. Looks like you can just click-and-drag a smooth terrain ramp anywhere without needing the annoying stamp-and-smooth method of PZ or the transport ride trick. Between that and the ability in PC2 to generate terrain beneath paths, PZ2 should be amazing in terms of creative potential.

I think the key solution to making a PZ2 that feels like a true sequel is that it needs to feel like a true upgrade on a creative level, not a glorifed expansion pack.

Like it's gotta have aviaries and aquariums, that's a given.

But I think a lot of that I think will boil down to more intuitive controls in the ways you build and streamlining systems thst people arent particularly excited by (looking at you tedious starting every new zoo with having to build all the staff buildings, the inexplicably separate 10 different drink stand types Etc)

Someone also showed a difference in the graphics of JWE2 and JWE3 and I must admit I'm quite impressed. We're way passed the point where games make massive leaps in terms of graphics; but if a PZ2 has similar looking graphics to JWE3 then I'm all for it.

(Yes I'm aware that PC2 looked more bright, vibrant and cartoony but that was always the case for the Coaster genre, it's a stylistic choice that they didn't apply to PZ)

I think we need these monkeys to have a more diverse and “complete” primate roster I think we need the following:
• Francois Langur (could be another langur species, but this is one preferred)
• Colobus species, preferably Angolan or Mantled Guereza
• Another African monkey (Guenon or “Savannah” monkey)
• NWM #1(Tamarin, Marmoset, Howler, Spider, Titi, or Squirrel Monkey
• NWM # 2 (same as 1)
Taxon-wise, factoring zoo presence & popularity, with the most important gaps bolded and underlined:
  • New World Monkeys:
    • Tamarins, Marmosets, and Night Monkeys:
      • What we have: none
      • Still Missing: Golden Lion Tamarin, Cotton-Top Tamarin, Emperor Tamarin, Common Marmoset
      • Thoughts: This clade has over 2000 combined holdings on Zootierliste. I see them everywhere. They are adorable, marketable, reusable, popular, and often important conservation species. The golden lion tamarin is a top 10 animal, a famous conservation species, and featured on the Brazilian real. They would be an awesome addition. The other 3 are also somewhat popular and very common in zoos. The golden lion tamarin is my personal all-time favorite zoo animal, but even more tamarins would be wonderful.
    • Spider, Howler, and Woolly Monkeys:
      • What we have: none
      • Still Missing: Geoffroy's Spider Monkey, Black Howler Monkey, Red Howler Monkey, Black-Headed Spider Monkey
      • Thoughts: Spider monkeys are neat and common in zoos. They could use the brachiating frames, which would be exciting. We don't have a South American primate that can use them, yet
    • Capuchins and Squirrel Monkeys:
      • What we have: White-Faced Capuchin
      • Still Missing: Squirrel Monkey, Tufted Capuchin
      • Thoughts: This clade is common in zoos, and a representative from the two missing genera seems important. Squirrel monkeys are especially popular.
    • Titis, Sakis, and Ukaris
      • What we have: White-Faced Saki
      • Still Missing: Uakari, Coppery Titi
      • Thoughts: I really like uakari's as oddballs, and titis are cute and somewhat common in zoos. My dream primate roster would have both.
  • Old World Monkeys:
    • Langurs:
      • What we have: Proboscis Monkey
      • Still Missing: Colobus (probably Guereza), 'Classic' Langur (probably Hanuman, François', or Javan), Golden Snub-Nosed Monkey, Red-Shanked Douc
      • Thoughts: The one we have is a bit of a meme animal, but it is an oddball and rare in zoos. Colobus monkeys are very popular and common in zoos. I really like them. They would also add a rep for a subfamily not yet covered, as would one of the 'classic' langurs. Those listed are all popular and good choices. Golden Snub-Nosed Monkeys are popular and super important to the massive Chinese playerbase, so they should probably be included. Doucs represent a third genus of odd-nosed langurs, and the red-shanked douc is somewhat popular and my favorite Old World monkey.
    • Guenons and Relatives:
      • What we have: none
      • Still Missing: De Brazza's Guenon, Patas Monkey, Grivet or Vervet Monkey, Diana or Roloway Monkey, Schmidt's Red-Tailed Monkey, Wolf's Mona Monkey
      • Thoughts: I've seen many guenons in zoos, especially the most popular De Brazza's guenon. Guenons are a bit of a weird taxon gap in the primate roster. The others would be nice and are somewhat popular, except for the last two, which are personal favorites. My dream primate roster would have all of them.
    • Macaques/Baboons/Mangabeys:
      • What we have: Hamadryas Baboon, Mandrill, Japanese Macaque, Lion-Tailed Macaque?
      • Still Missing: Barbary Macaque, Gelada, Mangabey?
      • Thoughts: I'm mostly fine with the current representation for this clade. However, the Barbary macaque is Europe's only monkey, and the gelada is somewhat notable for its popularity and presence in ZT2. They are pretty strong options. Mangabeys are a bit more unique, but they aren't popular.
    • Apes:
      • What we have: Orangutan, Chimp, Gorilla, Bonobo, Lar Gibbon, Siamang
      • Thoughts: This is plenty for most people. Few want more gibbons.
  • Lemurs and Oddballs:
    • Lemurs:
      • What we have: Coqueral's Sifaka, Ring-Tailed Lemur, Red-Ruffed Lemur, Black and White Ruffed Lemur
      • Still Missing: Aye-Aye
      • Thoughts: Aye-ayes aren't as critical as other species, but they are famous, somewhat popular, and would be useful for nocturnal houses. My dream primate roster would include them and maybe crowned and diademed sifakas as well. Lemurs are cute, and I've seen many in zoos. Usually, I've seen the ones we already have in the game.
    • Lorises and Tarsiers:
      • What we have: none
      • Thoughts: They are cool, and I'd love to see them in Planet Zoo, but they aren't super common in zoos. I don't know if they'd work well, and they probably wouldn't be easy to make. I don't consider them critical for PZ, but my dream primate roster would likely have one of each.
Bare Minimum:
  • ~2 Tamarins, at least the Golden Lion Tamarin
  • Spider and/or Howler Monkey
  • Guereza and/or Guenon(s)
Those 3+ would give me enough monkeys to build realistic zoos, but more options for variety would be nice. Those don't cover the Barbary macaque and GSNM, which seem like important regional picks although they aren't as critical taxon-wise or for representing zoos I've attended.

In total agreement. I've said before that (as far as I can tell) there are around 2x as many primate species as ungulate species worldwide, and yet we have 56 ungulates in game compared to 20 primates.

I'm not saying we should have less ungulates, just using it as an indicator of how short we are on necessary primate numbers. Would hope frontier make it a point to include as many primates as possible going forward.

Someone also showed a difference in the graphics of JWE2 and JWE3 and I must admit I'm quite impressed. We're way passed the point where games make massive leaps in terms of graphics; but if a PZ2 has similar looking graphics to JWE3 then I'm all for it.

The only problem I have with JWE3 is it looks like it's still missing elevated pathways and bridges, unless I missed something obvious. I mean, maybe we'll be able to use the terrain tools to make a land-bridge and put a path/tour track on it, but I really hope they add the ability to do bridges.

Sounds like everyone is for the most part in agreement over monkeys.
IMO: Geladas are too cool to not include. Europes only monkey the Barbary ought to be included. At least one more new world such as the howler should be included. Never thought of the saki or lion tailed but I am happy and greatful for their inclusion. Colobus and veverets I’d love to have. Heck there’s just too many monkeys.
“Because, I don’t make monkeys, I just train them”.

For me, monkeys I'd like before the game is done would be:
Golden Lion Tamarin, Emperor Tamarin, Common Marmoset, Cotton-Top Tamarin (dropped as a bundle like the butterflies)
Black Howler Monkey (only hesitation is prehensile tails, this would be a major barrier to being added)
Bolivian Squirrel Monkey

Mantled Guereza
Hanuman Langur
De Brazzas Monkey
Gelada (too cool to miss)

If you limited my picks to a more reasonable 5 species (although I stand by the claim that adding all the Tamarins as a group wouldn't be unreasonably difficult in a pack with say, 4 or 5 other species):
Golden Lion Tamarin
Emperor Tamarin
Mantled Guereza
Gelada
De Brazzas Monkey

I only omitted the howler monkey for the prehensile tail reason, if they got that working I'd have it over the Colobus
Also would love to see a Hanuman langur in the upcoming pack. Less than 24 hours (probably) until it's revealed!
