Do credits earned in Solo play contribute towards open play

it's not that easy.
if you, as a new player, start solo and get an Anaconda, then switch to multiplayer and try to beat the cr*p out of the first Viper you encounter, you most likely lose a valuable ship ;)

Someone who spent his time in solo with no PvP experience won't stand a chance against a PvP proven player in a smaller ship. And it will take weeks of ship losses till he can catch up on skill.

You wrong ,some ppls say that calculators are even better at fighting than humans players.

Oh please tell me this ability to switch from "solo/group" to "online" is going away at full release? Someone said it's in the design vision, can someone please point me in that direction/link/source?

I had just payed money for this beta, hoping for a great Universe to play in. If this stays, I will be seeking refund. And if FD don't refund, I will be issuing a chargeback/dispute through the CC company.

Like someone had mentioned, it's repugnant just to think about it!
(Yes, I come from EvE).

EvE is the poster child for what player-driven economy can be, in a world of real supply-vs-demand, driven by PVP conflicts, fueled by PVE industrialists, with complete crossover.

If there is no risk, there is no conflict. If there is no conflict/war, there is no demand, if there is no demand, why are you building stuff for sale?

I play EVE too. This game is person centered . Its your game , Its your pilot , Its your ship , Its your adventure. It is not part of a hedonistic universe full of players tryig to better each other. This game has been advertised as making your life in the universe not making others feel better when you have more.

I am bored of seeing posts where people asume everyone cares what others have got because of thier self importance and how they got it.

Lets try again, This is not EVE, this was never made to be EVE. I want adventure and exploration in my way. I dont care what others have achieved outside of pure curiosity and information. I dont care what ships others have or what they are equiped with. I care that I can move freely about this huge universe in my way and indeed any way I choose.

I dont need you or indeed anyone like you throwing your toys out the pram because you dont understand what this is all about. Hence the reason for me to play in online group with my mates.

I dont care that you will never see me to boost your ego because you have "worked so hard in All online" I honestly couldnt give a damn because I will play my way any way I choose. In fact if I choose to go all online sometime I still dont care what you think because its just a game and I will play it my way.

I hope that clears it up for you. :D

I mean if I, as a new player, started in the solo player galaxy, made my way to the bigger ships and better weapons, then go to open play and beat the cr*p out of everyone else really. That is classified as cheating in my book.
And yet in EvE, when someone started in empire, made their way to bigger ships and better weapons, then went to 0.0 to beat the cr*p out of everyone else (which was hardly the case was it, having spent all their time in empire), no one gave it a second thought. Someone enlighten me of the fundamental difference between these scenarios.

EDIT: It's been a few years since I played EvE, maybe things have changed in this respect?

Nope it still works like that and of course you can get massive amounts of isk off your mates or alts to boost that progress even faster. Obviously not the offline learning of course. Thats another point EVE demands no skill to win combat. Unlike ED where skill is a pre requisite.

Well, it seems then that playing in solo is like digging your grave before you die. Wow, got worried there for a moment.

I think you're missing the motivation of players that want to play solo. It's probably safe to say that many solo players simply are not interested in playing in the all group at all and that a portion of the current solo online players would prefer the completely offline mode that is not currently available yet and will be a completely separate character that can't be used in multiplayer.

I never thought about that. I think it's a little like cheating. I mean if I, as a new player, started in the solo player galaxy, made my way to the bigger ships and better weapons, then go to open play and beat the cr*p out of everyone else really. That is classified as cheating in my book.
Both versions of game-play are separate in my opinion. So I really hope it'll change soon. ;)

Well Commander Noobly; I have thought about that...and decided the only reason PvP'ers would not like that is if other (PvP'ers) should choose to get an advantage over their brethren. Seems to me PvP players should form like minded player groups and whack each other; when group/netcode/teamspeak allows it.

And we know DB's design of the game makes PvP being the exception not the rule. For PvE'ers mode switching is only a convenience/safety factor.:)

How is that possible ? ;)

Heh... well, I didn't say it would be easy to get an Anaconda just through PvP. :)

In the final game, either piracy or bounty hunting might be more lucrative than it is now. We also don't know how the faction stuff will work. There may be higher-paying vouchers for joining faction conflicts, chains of missions, etc. that pay as well as a trading career at the higher levels.

You shouldnt be able to switch as it suits you. I just hope they really rethink that ridiculous idea.

The "precedent" set with the mega "Yaw" thread has already answered your question, but you know that as well.

No one ever, except as bait, would fly a cargo ship in "Online" mode.

Even myself, a risk-vs-reward PvPer, if given the option to grind (trade-run) credits in the safety of "Solo" game, with no extra incentive of doing it in "Online" mode, I would chose "Solo". Not one sane person would take unnecessary risk without any extra reward.

And then when I have the credits, I would go "Online" and blow them up on ships, and then back to "Solo"

It should be called "Earn money (Solo)" and "Spend money (Online)" instead. The fact that it isn't makes me hopeful that developers still want a lively Universe in online mode, not a dogfight arena just outside Azeban.

No one ever, except as bait, would fly a cargo ship in "Online" mode.

Except lots of us have and, more importantly, did so in the previous Beta where things were very different. The fact that you don't understand why people play that way has no effect.

So if you fear this, you can only hope for the opposite, being able to hunt for soft targets, right?

I believe this is called projection.

In Beta your progress does not matter... can't use that as argument.

And just cause you want "an extra challenge" doesn't mean there are a lot like you. Most kids these days want immediate satisfaction, not extra challenge. And don't kid yourself if you think this game at release will be populated by mature players, the same that played the original 30 years ago.
