Do NOT get a "free" Steam key if you want to support Frontier

Good that I actually thought of this in advance. I did not click on the generate button and I never will :) I would understand cut like 5%, but 30%? What the hell?!!?!? Screw Valve, they didn't even do Ep.3 and HL3, the only two things that they were supposed to do.

I have quite a collection of games on steam, but there's no reason for me to put E: D in the situation where they would earn less on their DLC, especially since the game doesn't run on any monthly subscription. Between the financial loss and the fact that some steam users had trouble, especially when it came to access Beta, I think I'll pass on the steam key.

By the way, you can add E: D to Steam without a Steam key! you just won't get the benefits of Steam, but you'll see it in your collection and will be able to launch it from there, if that's really your kick. Just use the option 'add a non steam game' and voilà.

I have the lifetime expansion pass. So getting a Steam key shouldn't result in any loss for Frontier, right?

If you get a Steam key, then from that point on Steam will get a cut of any in-game stuff you purchase in future, e.g. paint jobs. Your lifetime DLCs are already bought and paid for, so to speak.

Steam won't get a cut of any physical merchandise, such as cups, keyrings and T-shirts.

So FD won't lose anything if you get a key. They'll simply gain 30% less if you buy any additional in-game content.

Right. I got the expansion pass so I can't see that FD are being terribly impacted by me adding ED to my Steam Library. PS, thanks FD for allowing it.

Main reason I added to Steam was I've had ED launcher/updating problems before (validation errors) and hoping that moving to Steam may address this. I don't have a ton of Steam games but updating is always easy and I appreciate that.

Got my key and I'm happy I did. It's what I wanted in the first place. I only bought from their store because I thought it was my only option. When they went back on a previous statement by making it available on Steam, they made things right for people like me.

I already supported FD with my initial purchase and I continue to support them by allowing my friends on steam seeing me play it and starting to ask questions about it.

Not buying skins from FD anyway - I find the whole concept silly.

I have no intention of bogging down my resources with a completely unnecessary program in the background.

I've said to a few folks, if you don't use the Steam features - then there is no point linking.
I do use them though, I use the in game browser for YouTube (Music), plus www.elitetradingtool.co.uk when I'm feeling lazy.
And my friends sometimes stream what I am playing.
I will write a review for the game sometime and post it on the Steam site for other Steam users to see and perhaps help bring more players to the game.

Good, as I don't plan on buying any of those.

I would have thought if you bought through there website and not through steam and steam payment system then valve don't get a cut?

If you read Frontier's quotes from the first post of this thread, you will see that Valve DO get a cut (probably 30%) when you buy DLC from Frontier's store IF you have linked you account to Steam.

P.S. I'm slightly amazed this thread is still going! But I guess as long as people don't know about it (and so feel the need to post about their surprise/disbelieve on this thread) it's good that it keeps getting bumped onto the first page.

Honestly, I thought they should've done steam keys the second they added it on steam. That said, I was never going to get one. I'm already the guy disabling steam in game, no way I'm going to add it to ED especially after this latest patch went in and broke everything it didn't fix on the stability side.

Crap! Is there any way to un-link my Valve and Frontier accounts?

There is an unlink option in Frontier's website, in your account information , but I m not sure what it does. Is there anyone here to clarify what this unlink option do? I want to purchase the lifetime pass but I don't want to give a share to Valve.

I have only used steam for two games in my life and that was in the last two years. I don't see a point to steam personally. If a game is ONLY available as a dl then i'll try to get it any other way btu steam.

I'd never noticed that Unlink link before. Clicked it, it appears my account is no longer linked to Steam, and on the Partner Keys link on my FD account page, it shows this so it looks like it can be linked again in the future if you ever want to.
